- Natural law and rights, on the one hand, and human nature and reason, on the other, are intimately connected in the philosophy of Francisco Suárez. By connecting different areas of his philosophy where these are treated, a better view of each of them is acquired. Especially, Suárez' philosophical anthropology illuminates Suárez' doctrine of natural law; by bearing in mind Suárez' use of the word "nature" as not always implying universality when reading his 'De legibus', the place of the singular comes out as more prominent in Suárez' system of natural law than a first look might give at hand.
