  • Waste Incineration for the Future : Scenario analysis and action plans
  • 2019
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • This report is a deliverable from a project within the Swedish Strategic Innovation Program RE:Source, financed by the Swedish Energy Agency, Formas and Vinnova. The project, Waste Incineration for the Future, aims to produce a knowledge base for the development of energy recovery from waste that suits the future circular economy. In order to identify and prioritize relevant innovations, a scenario process has been undertaken with stakeholders from the energy, waste and recycling, and manufacturing industries. The result is two distinct, complementary scenarios for the circular economy in Sweden, each with different implications for innovation in waste incineration and energy recovery. With these scenarios as a starting point, the project has defined prioritized areas for innovation and produced action plans for promoting innovation.

    • BY COMBINING VISUALIZATION techniques with interactive multi-touch tables and intuitive user interfaces, visitors to museums and science centers can conduct self-guided tours of large volumetric image data. In an interactive learning experience, visitors become the explorers of otherwise invisible interiors of unique artifacts and subjects. Here, we take as our starting point the state of the art in scanning technologies, then discuss the latest research on high-quality interactive volume rendering and how it can be tailored to meet the speci?c demands.

  • Assessment of Self-Heating in Wood Pellets by FE Modelling
  • 2017
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The self-heating process in a laboratory scale experiment has been modelled using the Comsol Multiphysics software. In the simulations the gas flow and air movement in the volume and heat diffusion in the bulk were taken into account however only one reaction in the pellets bulk is considered. The input data is found from measurements of the reaction chemistry and the heat transfer properties. It is found that all relevant physics is needed in order to obtain reasonable predictions in particular the heat transfer between the bulk and the gas is important but also condensation and evaporation of moisture.

  • Effect of self-managed lifestyle treatment on glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes
  • 2022
  • In: npj Digital Medicine. - : Nature Research. - 2398-6352. ; 5:1
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The lack of effective, scalable solutions for lifestyle treatment is a global clinical problem, causing severe morbidity and mortality. We developed a method for lifestyle treatment that promotes self-reflection and iterative behavioral change, provided as a digital tool, and evaluated its effect in 370 patients with type 2 diabetes (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT04691973). Users of the tool had reduced blood glucose, both compared with randomized and matched controls (involving 158 and 204 users, respectively), as well as improved systolic blood pressure, body weight and insulin resistance. The improvement was sustained during the entire follow-up (average 730 days). A pathophysiological subgroup of obese insulin-resistant individuals had a pronounced glycemic response, enabling identification of those who would benefit in particular from lifestyle treatment. Natural language processing showed that the metabolic improvement was coupled with the self-reflective element of the tool. The treatment is cost-saving because of improved risk factor control for cardiovascular complications. The findings open an avenue for self-managed lifestyle treatment with long-term metabolic efficacy that is cost-saving and can reach large numbers of people. © 2022, The Author(s).
