  • EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATIONS OF A LOW WEBER LIQUID SPRAY IN AIR CROSS FLOW
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: ICLASS 2006 - 10th International Conference on Liquid Atomization and Spray Systems.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A Low Weber water spray subjected to an air cross flow has been investigated. The spray is characterized by low liquid injection velocity, producing a column that is broken up by aerodynamic forces from the oncoming air. PIV and PDA have been used to quantify both the continuous and dispersed phases. Long range microscopy has been used to characterize the column breakup process. It has been shown that bubbles (akin to droplet bag breakup) may form already in the column.

  • Spatially-Coupled Serially Concatenated Codes with Periodic Convolutional Permutors
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: 2021 11th International Symposium on Topics in Coding, ISTC 2021. - 9781665409438
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Spatially-coupled serially concatenated codes (SC-SCCS) are a class of turbo-like codes constructed by interconnecting a sequence of SCCS using a set of block permutors. At short block lengths, however, the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of SC-SCCS constructed by independent block permutors exhibits a high error floor. In this paper, we propose an alternative method for constructing SC-SCCS to mitigate this problem. Particularly, we use a family of periodically time-varying blockwise convolutional permutors with flexible block length. We derive these convolutional permutors from a block permutor of an optimized spread by applying an unwrapping procedure. We prove that for any chosen block length, the unwrapping procedure preserves the spread of the original block permutor. We further present an efficient implementation method for the blockwise convolutional permutor that derives the permutation indices directly from those of the underlying block permutor. Considering both S-random permutors and quadratic permutation polynomial (QPP) permutors, we perform BER simulations for SC-SCCS with decoding latencies 4096 and 16384. Numerical results show that SC-SCCS based on the proposed convolutional permutors have no visible error floor, which is especially notable at short block lengths.

  • The Ab Initio No-core Shell Model
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Few-Body Systems. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1432-5411 .- 0177-7963. ; 45:2, s. 111-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This contribution reviews a number of applications of the ab initio no-core shell model (NCSM) within nuclear physics and beyond. We will highlight a nuclear-structure study of the A = 12 isobar using a chiral NN + 3NF interaction. In the spirit of this workshop we will also mention the new development of the NCSM formalism to describe open channels and to approach the problem of nuclear reactions. Finally, we will illustrate the universality of the many-body problem by presenting the recent adaptation of the NCSM effective-interaction approach to study the many-boson problem in an external trapping potential with short-range interactions. This article is based on the presentation by C. Forssén at the Fifth Workshop on Critical Stability, Erice, Sicily.

  • Fast and Reliable Two-View Translation Estimation
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition. - 1063-6919. - 9781479951178 ; , s. 1606-1612
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • It has long been recognized that one of the fundamental difficulties in the estimation of two-view epipolar geometry is the capability of handling outliers. In this paper, we develop a fast and tractable algorithm that maximizes the number of inliers under the assumption of a purely translating camera. Compared to classical random sampling methods, our approach is guaranteed to compute the optimal solution of a cost function based on reprojection errors and it has better time complexity. The performance is in fact independent of the inlier/outlier ratio of the data. This opens up for a more reliable approach to robust ego-motion estimation. Our basic translation estimator can be embedded into a system that computes the full camera rotation. We demonstrate the applicability in several difficult settings with large amounts of outliers. It turns out to be particularly well-suited for small rotations and rotations around a known axis (which is the case for cellular phones where the gravitation axis can be measured). Experimental results show that compared to standard RANSAC methods based on minimal solvers, our algorithm produces more accurate estimates in the presence of large outlier ratios.

  • Optimal relative pose with unknown correspondences
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition. - 1063-6919. - 9781467388511 ; 2016-January, s. 1728-1736
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Previous work on estimating the epipolar geometry of two views relies on being able to reliably match feature points based on appearance. In this paper, we go one step further and show that it is feasible to compute both the epipolar geometry and the correspondences at the same time based on geometry only. We do this in a globally optimal manner. Our approach is based on an efficient branch and bound technique in combination with bipartite matching to solve the correspondence problem. We rely on several recent works to obtain good bounding functions to battle the combinatorial explosion of possible matchings. It is experimentally demonstrated that more difficult cases can be handled and that more inlier correspondences can be obtained by being less restrictive in the matching phase.

  • A lipid-based passivation scheme for nanofluidics
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: 16th International Conference on Miniaturized Systems for Chemistry and Life Sciences, MicroTAS 2012; Okinawa; Japan; 28 October 2012 through 1 November 2012. - 9780979806452 ; , s. 1876-1878
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Stretching DNA in nanochannels allows for direct, visual studies of genomic DNA at the single molecule level. In order to facilitate the study of the interaction of linear DNA with proteins in nanochannels, we have implemented a highly effective passivation scheme based on lipid bilayers. We show long-term passivation of nanochannel surfaces to several relevant reagents and demonstrate that the performance of the lipid bilayer is significantly better compared to standard bovine serum albumin-based passivation. Moreover, we demonstrate how the passivated devices allow us to monitor single DNA cleavage events during enzymatic degradation.

  • A Model for Energy Consumption in Heavy Vehicle Braking
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Lecture Notes in Mechanical Engineering. - Cham : Springer International Publishing. - 2195-4356 .- 2195-4364. ; , s. 747-756
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A model is presented for studying the energy used by the braking system in heavy vehicles. The aim is to keep the model as simple as possible, while retaining reasonable fidelity for the problem at hand. All actuators are thus created as ideal, i.e. no losses, then simple dissipative loads are added where applicable in order to capture their effects from a vehicle systems perspective. The vehicle itself is a simple point mass with a replaceable brake system actuator and a proportional speed controller. The model results capture the energy converted by the vehicle actuators with an error of less than 5% compared to the measured data, indicating that the model is capable of estimating the energy used by the two braking system variants, as well as the drivetrain, in other heavy vehicles and driving scenarios.

  • Experimental Validation of Single Base Station 5G mm Wave Positioning: Initial Findings
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: 2022 25th International Conference on Information Fusion, FUSION 2022. - Piscataway : IEEE.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • 5G cellular networks can utilize millimeter wave signals, and support large bandwidths and large antenna arrays, which provide more geometric-based signals and higher delay and angle resolutions. These merits bring new opportunities in positioning the user with limited infrastructure through the use of combined angle and delay information. However, there are many practical challenges to overcome, in order to have a functioning single base station 5G mmWave positioning system. In this paper, we describe a deployed single base station mmWave positioning system, and provide an example of the measurement data. Furthermore, we perform measurement validation on a limited measurement data set by performing base station localization. Additional evaluations performed on simulation model data provide guidelines on the required size of the data set and receiver antenna configuration, which will be implemented in upcoming measurements.
