- While the relation between human directed empathy (HDE) and animal directed empathy (ADE) has been reported as relatively weak, very little is known on factors underpinning the development of the later. We explored predictive models of HDE and ADE regressing them on gender, religion, diet, having pets and belonging to NGO charities, and we also compared portuguese with english speaking people as a proxy of culturally distinct populations. An online survey was conducted and included portuguese and english versions of measures of HDE and ADE, as well as questions targeted at the predictive variables. Results indicated gender as the single predictor of human directed empathy in the "Portuguese" group whereas both gender and having pets predicted empathy towards animals in both groups. NGO affiliation is a predictor of empathy towards animals in the portuguese but not in the english group, where a vegetarian/vegan diet is the strongest predictor.

- This article aims to reflect, through a brief review of international studies, mostly in European countries, on the experiences and challenges faced by male practitioners in their professional practice in Early Childhood Education, which is aplace mostly occupied by women in several countries. Furthermore, it seeks to discuss the question when male practitioners are seeing, by a significant parcel of various societies, as subjects out of place who could pose some risk to physical and emotional integrity of the children. In accordance with the aim of the study, we carried out a qualitative study having content analysis as method, in which 100 scientific peer-reviewed articles from several international journals were analyzed, having English the most recurrent language among them. The results indicate that men who are working with young children need to break their subjectivities and social barriers when they want to join and stay in the profession. In addition to that, the results show that they need to deal with different expectations about their personal and professional attitudes in relation to their gender. Moreover, it is not uncommon that those practitioners are viewed with suspicions by other professionals who share the same spaces in the preschools. Therefore, they are always under surveillance and usually create strategies that seek, if not to shield them, to minimize the mistrust and fears which they are commonly submitted.

- Plastic pollution is a major societal, economic, and environmental issue. Upon release into the environment, plastics are altered by biological and physicochemical processes that influence their fate and transport within ecosystems. Large plastic debris can fragment into smaller pieces and are called microplastics (MPs) when occurring at sizes between 1 µm and 5 mm, fragmented or produced in this range. These small pieces of plastics are ubiquitous anthropogenic contaminants found throughout the world; however, the environmental consequences and effects on biota are not clearly understood. Scientific literature on the environmental implications of MP pollution is expandingrapidly and critical review of this literature is necessary to identify areas of evolving consensus and remaining gaps in knowledge. Herein a comprehensive literature review was performed to assess (i) the sources and distribution of MPs in different environmental compartments, (ii) the analytical methods that have been applied worldwide, and the key analytical challenges that remain inassessing MPs in the environment, and, finally, (iii) to integrate the findings of Brazilian MP research, which showed that since 2004(80 papers up to 2020) has documented the presence of MPs in aquatic matrices and sediments with focus on marine ecosystems, mainly identified by visual inspection.

- Com a disseminação das tecnologias da informação e comunicação na educação, cresceu exponencialmente a criação e disponibilização de cursos online. A partir da popularização destes cursos, observouse também a grande evasão dos parti cipantes, resultando em baixos números de concluintes. Em vista disso, este trabalho visa analisar a importância do desenho instrucional para o engajamento de alunos em cursos online. Para tal, realizouse uma revisão sistemática com base no modelo SSF (Systematic Search Flow). A revisão resultou na identifi cação de metodologias de ensino aprendizagem voltadas para elaboração de cursos online, nos públicosalvo os quais os cursos estão endereçados e os principais recursos uti lizados para promover a interação e engajar os alunos em seus estudos. Concluise que o desenho instrucional possui grande importância para a efi ciência dos cursos, pois permite o planejamento de um curso e seleção dos recursos mais apropriados de acordo com o público alvo.

- From a gender perspective, this article analyses the concept of "healthy organization" through the study of the "dual agenda" of healthcare organizations. Based in the EU funded project "Quality of Life in a Changing Europe", which priviledged a multi-method approach, we analyse data from an extensive survey applied in eight European countries (Germany, Bulgaria, Finland, The Netherlands, Hungary, Portugal, United Kingdom and Sweden) and present two case studies undergone at university public hospitals in Sweden and in Portugal. Results show that the perceptions of what is a healthy organization are developed around the notions of social support, life satisfaction, work engagement and work-life reconciliation. Gender variations are a common feature in each of these dimensions. Organizational policies, professional trajectories and family resources are directly related to these variations.

- Neste texto abordo a noção de “estética da persuasão” formulada por Birgit Meyer. Explorando a dimensão distributiva da estética presente na sua tese, argumento que o “lugar” da religião é um espaço de relacionalidades exteriorizações que deverá incluir tanto crentes como não crentes, os espaços de culto e as suas vizinhanças seculares, configurando um “público” que excede o religioso. Para tal, Utilizo como termo de comparação empírico o meu trabalho de campo sobre pluralismo religioso no bairro do Palanca, em Luanda (Angola).
