  • Quasi-experimental evaluation of a stress management programme for female county and municipal employees on long-term sick leave due to work-related psychological complaints.
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Journal of rehabilitation medicine : official journal of the UEMS European Board of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine. - : Medical Journals Sweden AB. - 1651-2081. ; 41:8, s. 632-8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of a stress management intervention among 24 female patients on sick leave due to work-related psychological complaints. METHODS: The study design was quasi-experimental. All participants received a standard individual treatment for stress at a company healthcare unit. Half of the sample was also enrolled in a group intervention aimed at coping with psychological/somatic symptoms of stress. Data were collected before and after treatment and at 6- and 12-month follow-ups, through questionnaires and blood sampling. Rates of return to work were assessed for up to 5 years. RESULTS: Levels of depression decreased in both conditions and these improvements were maintained at follow-up. The experimental condition was superior in alleviating burnout, as measured with the Karolinska Exhaustion Scale. Paradoxically, these improvements were accompanied by significant increases in levels of glycated haemoglobin in both groups. At 5-year follow-up 40% of participants in both conditions had returned to work. CONCLUSION: The stress management intervention seems to have beneficial effects on self-rated symptoms, but is comparable to treatment as usual with respect to rates of return to work. More studies are needed to investigate the impact of this intervention on physiological parameters.

  • CuO nanoflowers as an electrochemical pH sensor and the effect of pH on the growth
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: JOURNAL OF ELECTROANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY. - : Elsevier. - 1572-6657. ; 662:2, s. 421-425
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Well-crystallized flower-shaped cupric oxide (CuO) nanostructures composed of thin leaves have been synthesized by simple low-temperature chemical bath method and used to fabricate pH sensor. We examined the effect of the pH on the growth of the CuO nanostructures, by changing the pH of the precursor solutions different morphologies of the CuO nanostructures were obtained. CuO nanoflowers have recently become important as a material that provides an effective surface for electrochemical activities with enhanced sensing characteristics. The proposed sensor exhibited a linear electrochemical response within a wide pH range of (2-11). The experimental results (time response, electrochemical activity, reproducibility, absorption spectra, and XRD) indicate that the CuO nanoflowers can be used in pH sensor applications with enhanced properties.

  • Internet of Things architecture challenges : A systematic review
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Communication Systems. - : John Wiley and Sons Ltd. - 1074-5351 .- 1099-1131. ; 34:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Internet of Things (IoT) is a rapidly growing trend within many domains, such as automotive, avionics, automation, energy, and health. IoT architecture is the system of numerous elements, including sensors, protocols, actuators, cloud services, and layers. IoT architecture plays an important role to provide desired services. Nowadays, tens of IoT architectures are provided by the research community. Many challenges have been identified by the research community, including interoperability, security and privacy, reliability, energy constraints, scalability, and lack of common standards. However, to provide suitable IoT architecture, the importance and priority of requirements in different scenarios may vary, and requirement analysis should be regarded. To this end, this paper presents a systematic mapping survey to give a review of IoT architecture and provide a structured overview of research trends. Moreover, a technical taxonomy is presented for these challenges according to reviewed studies. This classification model can be used as a guideline for future works.

  • Bounds for Privacy-Utility Trade-off with Non-zero Leakage
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory - Proceedings. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). ; , s. 620-625
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The design of privacy mechanisms for two scenarios is studied where the private data is hidden or observable. In the first scenario, an agent observes useful data Y , which is correlated with private data X, and wants to disclose the useful information to a user. A privacy mechanism is employed to generate data U that maximizes the revealed information about Y while satisfying a privacy criterion. In the second scenario, the agent has additionally access to the private data. To this end, the Functional Representation Lemma and Strong Functional Representation Lemma are extended relaxing the independence condition and thereby allowing a certain leakage. Lower bounds on privacy-utility trade-off are derived for the second scenario as well as upper bounds for both scenarios. In particular, for the case where no leakage is allowed, our upper and lower bounds improve previous bounds.

  • Contamination monitoring in the forensic DNA laboratory and a simple graphical model for unbiased EPG classification
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Forensic Science International: Genetics, Supplement Series. - : Elsevier. - 1875-1768. ; 3:1, s. e299-e300
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Monitoring presence and level of background DNA in forensic DNA laboratory environments can be used to control work routines and cleaning procedures and to follow changes in these, as well as being an indicator for increased/decreased contamination risk. Previous monitoring routines as sampling and interpretation have not been standardised, making it difficult to compare between different sampling events and observe potential trends. Factor analysis was used to generate a simple graphical classification model for unbiased ranking of electropherograms, which can be modified according to user's need, taking into account number of detected alleles, markers and peak height.

  • Artificial neural network models to predict nodal status in clinically node-negative breast cancer
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: BMC Cancer. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1471-2407. ; 19:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Background: Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is standard staging procedure for nodal status in breast cancer, but lacks therapeutic benefit for patients with benign sentinel nodes. For patients with positive sentinel nodes, individualized surgical strategies are applied depending on the extent of nodal involvement. Preoperative prediction of nodal status is thus important for individualizing axillary surgery avoiding unnecessary surgery. We aimed to predict nodal status in clinically node-negative breast cancer and identify candidates for SLNB omission by including patient-related and pathological characteristics into artificial neural network (ANN) models. Methods: Patients with primary breast cancer were consecutively included between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2012 in a prospectively maintained pathology database. Clinical- and radiological data were extracted from patient's files and only clinically node-negative patients constituted the final study cohort. ANN-based models for nodal prediction were constructed including 15 risk variables for nodal status. Area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test (HL) were used to assess performance and calibration of three predictive ANN-based models for no lymph node metastasis (N0), metastases in 1-3 lymph nodes (N1) and metastases in ≥ 4 lymph nodes (N2). Linear regression models for nodal prediction were calculated for comparison. Results: Eight hundred patients (N0, n = 514; N1, n = 232; N2, n = 54) were included. Internally validated AUCs for N0 versus N+ was 0.740 (95% CI = 0.723-0.758); median HL was 9.869 (P = 0.274), for N1 versus N0, 0.705 (95% CI = 0.686-0.724; median HL: 7.421; P = 0.492) and for N2 versus N0 and N1, 0.747 (95% CI = 0.728-0.765; median HL: 9.220; P = 0.324). Tumor size and vascular invasion were top-ranked predictors of all three end-points, followed by estrogen receptor status and lobular cancer for prediction of N2. For each end-point, ANN models showed better discriminatory performance than multivariable logistic regression models. Accepting a false negative rate (FNR) of 10% for predicting N0 by the ANN model, SLNB could have been abstained in 27.25% of patients with clinically node-negative axilla. Conclusions: In this retrospective study, ANN showed promising result as decision-supporting tools for estimating nodal disease. If prospectively validated, patients least likely to have nodal metastasis could be spared SLNB using predictive models. Trial registration: Registered in the ISRCTN registry with study ID ISRCTN14341750. Date of registration 23/11/2018. Retrospectively registered.
