  • Stabilization and projection methods for multibody dynamics
  • 1990
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In recent years, there has been growing interest in stabilized index reduction techniques for differential-algebraic equations (DAE) of multibody dynamics. A number of the proposals which incorporate the idea of a projection onto the constraint manifold are discussed. The methods are divided into classes based on whether the projection is performed on the residuals of the discretized DAE or on the numerical solution itself, and demonstrate relationships between the methods of each class

  • The befenits of parallel multibody simulation and its application to vehicle dynamics
  • 1993
  • Ingår i: Advanced Multibody System Dynamics. - Dordrecht : Springer Netherlands. - 0792321928 - 9401706255 - 9789048142538 - 9789401706254 ; , s. 107-126
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In summer 1987 most of the multibody dynamics community met at the JPL, Pasadena, to discuss the needs and the open problems in multibody system simulation, especially for space applications. P. W. Likins stated in his survey [16]: “Computational questions focused initially on the selection of subroutines for numerical integration, matrix inversion, or eigensystem analysis, and lately have shifted to preprocessors and postprocessors for user convenience. More fundamental issues are raised by the potential of symbolic manipulation and parallel processing, both of which present the possibility of revolutionizing the field.” Concepts for symbolic implementation have been pursued at various places, e.g. [14, 21]. This paper presents results of our efforts to exploit the potential of parallel computer architectures for multibody simulation. It has its roots in an analysis of the status of knowledge at the time, the above statement was made.

  • Constrained Mechanical Systems in Descriptor form: Identification, Simulation and Control
  • 1993
  • Ingår i: Solid Mechanics and its Applications. - Dordrecht : Springer Netherlands. - 0925-0042. ; 20, s. 451-456
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The subject of constrained controlled mechanical (“mechatronic”) systems in descriptor form is a field of current research in mechanical engineering, control theory and applied mathematics. It is essentially based on the progress in numerical mathematics on the solution of differential-algebraic equations, cf. [1–3] and on the developments in control theory on singular (or descriptor) systems, cf. [4–6]. In mechanics the investigation of constrained mechanical systems is a well-known problem, particular in the case of nonholonomic systems [7,8]. First relations between mechanical and numerical approaches were established by Baumgarte [9] in 1972 and more recently by Nikravesh [10] and Führer [11], stimulating a lot of research work on the simulation of mechanical constrained systems, e.g. [12,13].

  • Simulation of Multibody Systems by a Parallel Extrapolation Method
  • 1994
  • Ingår i: Mechanics Based Design of Structures and Machines. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1539-7734. ; 22:4, s. 473-486
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the simulation of multibody systems, the equations of motion are generated by so-called multibody formalisms as a system of differential-algebraic equations (DAEs). A recently developed extrapolation method for integrating the equations of motion is investigated. Extrapolation methods for ordinary differential equations are briefly reviewed, before proceeding to the DAE method. The inherent parallelism of the extrapolation scheme is used for an implementation on a transputer network. Implementation aspects such as the distribution of work during integration, and differences in stepsize control of serial and parallel algorithms are discussed. The efficiency of the parallel algorithm is demonstrated for a multibody system that is part of a mechanical printing device.

  • MEDYNA — An Interactive Analysis and Design Program for Geometrically Linear and Flexible Multibody Systems
  • 1990
  • Ingår i: Multibody Systems Handbook. - Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer Berlin Heidelberg. - 9783642509971 - 9783642509957 ; , s. 203-223
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Simulation and computer-aided analysis of complex mechanical systems has become a task of increasing importance in computational mechanics. It requires software tools combining modeling support, efficient generation of the equations of motion as well as modern numerical solution and system analysis techniques.
