  • Nordic childhoods in the digital age: Insights into contemporary research on communication, learning and education
  • 2022
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This book adds to the international research literature on contemporary Nordic childhoods in the context of fast-evolving technologies. It draws on the workshop program of the Nordic Research Network on Digital Childhoods funded by the Joint Committee for Nordic research councils in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NOS-HS) during the years 2019-2021. Bringing together researchers from Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland, the book addresses pressing issues around children's communication, learning and education in the digital age. The volume sheds light on cultural values, educational policies and conceptions of children and childhood, and childmedia relationships inherent in Nordic societies. The book argues for the importance of understanding local cultures, values and communication practices that make up contemporary digital childhoods and extends current discourses on children's screen time to bring in new insights about the nature of children's digital engagement. This book will appeal to researchers, graduate students, educators and policy makers in the fields of childhood education, educational technology and communication. • Nordic Dialogues on Children and Families
  • 2018
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This series focuses on issues, challenges and empirical best practices surrounding evolving families that impact upon their survival, development and outcomes. The aim of this series is twofold: (1) to showcase the diversity of evolving families and the multiple factors that make up the function of families and their evolution across time, systems and cultures; (2) to build on preventative, interventionist, engagement and recovery methods for the promotion of healthy and successful evolving families across generations, social and political contexts and cultures. Each book in this series will present a coherent view of at least one theme of the evolving families with the intention to articulate meaningful empirical research that informs best practice in sustaining evolving families and their future. Possible themes can be around (but not limited to) cultural and racial backgrounds, disabilities, social and economic disadvantage, stress, inter-generational mobility, grief, transitions, internal and external conflicts, and policies affecting families. The books will also derive its contents from dialogues between researchers and practitioners and inspire further intellectual debate amongst its readers. All books in the series will address relevant research and practice from around the world, and whilst the books will be allowed to have their own unique feature, each will provide a comprehensive and stimulating introduction to the evolving families of this millennia.

  • Nordic Equality and Anti-Discrimination Laws in the Throes of Change Legal developments in Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Iceland
  • 2023
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The Nordic states were among the first in the world to enact general gender equality and anti-discrimination laws with low threshold enforcement mechanisms. Today, the Nordic countries top the World Economic Forum’s Gender Gap Index – but have still not succeeded in closing the gender gap. This book draws a diverse and complex picture of the long, uneven and unfinished process towards substantive equality in four Nordic countries: Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland. It presents the Nordic gender equality model’s systematic use of three measures: overarching gender policies, legislation that has an explicit or implicit impact on gender relations and gender equality and anti-discrimination laws with low threshold enforcement systems. What potentials and limitations does the Nordic gender equality and anti-discrimination law regimes have to combat individual discrimination and structural inequality? Can these regimes function as a driver of political, legal, economic, cultural and social change, and as a corrective to laws, policies and practices that uphold existing inequalities, and, if so, to what extent? Can weaknesses in the equality and anti-discrimination laws and the way they are enforced hamper efforts to close remaining gender gaps? Rather than looking at the Nordic gender equality laws and policies in isolation, the book situates their development and transformative potential within a changing European and international political and legal landscape.

  • Nordic Inheritance Law through the Ages: Spaces of Action and Legal Strategies
  • 2020
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Nordic Inheritance Law through the Ages – Spaces of Action and Legal Strategies explores the significance of inheritance law from medieval times to the present through topical and in-depth studies that bring life to historical and contemporary inheritance practices. The contributions cover three themes: status of persons and options in the process of property devolution; wills, gift-giving and legal disputes as means to shape the working of the law; processes of inheritance legislation. The authors focus on instances where legal strategies of various actors particularly reveal inheritance law as a contested and yet constrained space of action, and somewhat surprisingly show similar solutions to family law issues dealt with in other Western European countries.
