  • 2019
  • Patent (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • A device is provided for generating temporally offset , spa tially modulated illumination regions (22 , 22 ') having peri odic modulation patterns that are phase - shifted with respect to one another . The device has two pulsed laser sources (121 , 122) that are triggerable in a manner temporally offset with respect to one another and that generate two laser beams pulsed in a temporally offset manner . Intensity modulators (16) are provided for spatially periodic intensity modulation of the laser beams perpendicular to the direction of propa gation thereof . A beam superimposing device (126) com bines the beam paths of the laser beams in a common beam path section and a beam shaper (20 , 20 ') shapes the illumi nation region shaping. The common beam path section is configured so that the laser beams combined by the beam superimposing device (126) are polarized differently and the intensity modulators are upstream of an optically anisotropic beam splitter (18).

  • Pretreating non-wood lignocellulosic material (e.g. bagasse) to produce ethanol, comprises adding organic acid or organic acid-producing bacteria to lignocellulosic material, and storing and heating the organic acid-impregnated material
  • 2012
  • Patent (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • NOVELTY - Pretreating non-wood lignocellulosic material containing less than 5 wt.% starch or sugar for producing ethanol from lignocellulose, comprises: (a) adding organic acid or organic acid-producing bacteria to the lignocellulosic material; (b) storing the lignocellulosic material in presence of organic acid for at least 2 weeks in an atmosphere of less than 5% oxygen to obtain organic acid-impregnated material; and (c) heating the organic acid-impregnated material at a temperature of at least 190 degrees C for at least 5 minutes to obtain pretreated lignocellulosic material. USE - The method is useful for pretreating non-wood lignocellulosic material to produce ethanol, where the non-wood lignocellulosic material is bagasse (preferably sugar cane bagasse or sweet Sorghum bagasse), sugar cane trash, wheat straw, rice straw, Sorghum species, Arundo, Miscanthus or agricultural residues (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method: avoids the need of inorganic acid or base (sulfur dioxide), and utilizes containers which are less corrosion resistant, hence economical; has higher net energy gain; utilizes organic acid which is biodegradable, and produces degradation products (e.g. 5-hydroxymethylfurfural and furfural which acts as inhibitory substances in the subsequent fermentation process), thus environmentally friendly. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Pretreating non-wood lignocellulosic material containing less than 5 wt.% starch or sugar for producing ethanol from lignocellulose, comprises: (a) adding organic acid or organic acid-producing bacteria to the lignocellulosic material; (b) storing the lignocellulosic material in the presence of organic acid for at least 2 weeks in an atmosphere of less than 5% oxygen to obtain organic acid-impregnated material; and (c) heating the organic acid-impregnated material at a temperature of at least 190 degrees C for a period of at least 5 minutes to obtain pretreated lignocellulosic material, where no inorganic acid or base including sulfur dioxide is added in the method.

  • A device for the administration of a liquid medicament suspension
  • 1998
  • Patent (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • In an ampoule for a medicament the space accommodating the medicament is defined by an ampoule wall (1) a pierceable seal (5) closing one end of the ampoule and a piston (7) closing the other end of the ampoule. A metal containing fixation element (8) is secured to one of the parts defining the medicament accommodating space. A mixing element (9, 10) also containing a metal and having a density larger than 1,0 g/cm<3> is movable in medicament accommodating space. At least one of the elements, the fixation element (8) and the mixing element (9, 10), can be attracted by a magnet, and at least one of these elements is a magnetic element, the magnetic strength being so that the mixing element (9, 10) can during normal handling of the ampoule be fixed relative to this ampoule by the magnetic attraction between the fixation element (8) and the mixing element (9, 10) but may be released from its fixed position by manual operation.

  • Coating system providing low friction
  • 1999
  • Patent (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • The present invention relates to a coating system, in particular to a coating system for articles where plastic materials slide against flexible rubber materials. The coating system is a silicone oil based coating having a viscosity of at least 200,000 centistokes, i.e. a high viscosity coating. The coating comprises in a preferred embodiment a silicone oil based block or graft copolymer, or segmented copolymer. Further the invention relates to a process of producing a component of an article coated as described above, comprising adding the coating material to the component material prior to molding and subsequently molding the component from the mixture, or molding the component from the component material and subsequently applying the coating material to the at least one surface of the component, as well as an article coated with a silicone oil based coating as defined above. Such an article is preferably a medical article, such as a container or an injection cylinder and a stopper. The coatings according to the present invention are especially suited to use for permanently coating internal surfaces of containers equipped with stoppers for storage and administration of liquid protein preparations. The coatings providing low friction between the two components, such as a container wall and a rubber stopper, result in high-precision dosing. The described coatings are particularly useful for coating containers for storage and administration of liquid protein solutions, such as insulin formulations.

  • 2008
  • Patent (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • The present invention provides a method for optimizing elastic flows in a multi-path network for a traffic demand by jointly determining a bandwidth for each flow in a set of flows that realize the traffic demand and an optimized path for the traffic demand by maximizing a fairness utility. The present invention can be implemented as a computer program embodied on a computer readable medium in which the functions or steps of the method are implemented as code segments. In addition, the present invention can be implemented as an apparatus that includes a processor and an interface communicably coupling the processor to the multi-path network. The processor jointly determines a bandwidth for each flow in a set of flows that realize the traffic demand and an optimized path for the traffic demand by maximizing a fairness utility.

  • Synthesis and polymerization of isosorbide-based monomethacrylates
  • 2019
  • Patent (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • Isosorbide-5-methacrylate was obtained by enzymatic catalysis with Lipozyme RM IM in a highly regioselective manner in up to 87% yield. The process uses readily available acyl donors (methacrylic anydride or vinyl methacrylate), is easily scalable and chromatography free. Simple extractive workup followed by decoloration and filtration affords the monomer with up to > 99% purity. In addition, the developed enzymatic strategy was applied for the synthesis of a series of isosorbide 5- and 2-methacrylate derivatives. All the sythesized isosorbide monomethacrylates were radically polymerized with AIBN. The properties of these polymers with different side groups in either endo or exo configuration in the isosorbide structure was examined. The methacrylic isosorbide derivatives with OH-group were found to have very high glass transition temperature (Tg = 167 °C) and good thermal stability (at 5% weight loss under N2, Td,95 = 240 °C). The highest molecular weight (Mn = 80.6 kg/mol) was determined for the polymethacrylate with Ac-substitute.
