  • Measurement of the WW cross section in sqrt(s) = 7 TeV pp collisions with ATLAS
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 107
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This Letter presents a measurement of the W+W− production cross section in s√ = 7 TeV pp collisions by the ATLAS experiment, using 34 pb−1 of integrated luminosity produced by the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Selecting events with two isolated leptons, each either an electron or a muon, 8 candidate events are observed with an expected background of 1.7±0.6 events. The measured cross section is 41+20−16(stat)±5(syst)±1(lumi) pb, which is consistent with the standard model prediction of 44±3 pb calculated at next-to-leading order in QCD.

  • Search for long-lived charginos based on a disappearing-track signature using 136 fb−1 of pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044 .- 1434-6052. ; 82:7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A search for long-lived charginos produced either directly or in the cascade decay of heavy prompt gluino states is presented. The search is based on proton–proton collision data collected at a centre-of-mass energy of s√s = 13 TeVeV between 2015 and 2018 with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 136 fb−1. Long-lived charginos are characterised by a distinct signature of a short and then disappearing track, and are reconstructed using at least four measurements in the ATLAS pixel detector, with no subsequent measurements in the silicon-microstrip tracking volume nor any associated energy deposits in the calorimeter. The final state is complemented by a large missing transverse-momentum requirement for triggering purposes and at least one high-transverse-momentum jet. No excess above the expected backgrounds is observed. Exclusion limits are set at 95% confidence level on the masses of the chargino and gluino for different chargino lifetimes. Chargino masses up to 660 (210) GeVeV are excluded in scenarios where the chargino is a pure wino (higgsino). For charginos produced during the cascade decay of a heavy gluino, gluinos with masses below 2.1 TeVeV are excluded for a chargino mass of 300 GeVeV and a lifetime of 0.2 ns.

  • Search for non-resonant Higgs boson pair production in final states with leptons, taus, and photons in pp collisions at s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP). - : Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH. - 1126-6708 .- 1029-8479. ; 2024:8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A search is presented for non-resonant Higgs boson pair production, targeting the bbZZ, 4V (V = W or Z), VVττ, 4τ, γγVV and γγττ decay channels. Events are categorised based on the multiplicity of light charged leptons (electrons or muons), hadronically decaying tau leptons, and photons. The search is based on a data sample of proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1. No evidence of the signal is found and the observed (expected) upper limit on the cross-section for non-resonant Higgs boson pair production is determined to be 17 (11) times the Standard Model predicted cross-section at 95% confidence level under the background-only hypothesis. The observed (expected) constraints on the HHH coupling modifier, κλ, are determined to be −6.2 < κλ< 11.6 (−4.5 < κλ< 9.6) at 95% confidence level, assuming the Standard Model for the expected limits and that new physics would only affect κλ.

  • Search for production of resonant states in the photon-jet mass distribution using pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This Letter describes a model-independent search for production of new resonant states in photon-jet events in 2.11 fb^-1 of proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV. We compare the photon-jet mass distribution to a data-driven background estimate and find consistency with the background hypothesis. Given the lack of evidence for a signal, we set 95% CL limits on generic Gaussian-shape signals and on a benchmark excited-quark (q*) model, excluding 2 TeV Gaussian resonances with cross section times branching ratio times acceptance times efficiency near 5 fb and excluding q* masses below 2.46 TeV, respectively.

  • Simultaneous energy and mass calibration of large-radius jets with the ATLAS detector using a deep neural network
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Machine Learning. - : Institute of Physics. - 2632-2153. ; 5:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The energy and mass measurements of jets are crucial tasks for the Large Hadron Collider experiments. This paper presents a new calibration method to simultaneously calibrate these quantities for large-radius jets measured with the ATLAS detector using a deep neural network (DNN). To address the specificities of the calibration problem, special loss functions and training procedures are employed, and a complex network architecture, which includes feature annotation and residual connection layers, is used. The DNN-based calibration is compared to the standard numerical approach in an extensive series of tests. The DNN approach is found to perform significantly better in almost all of the tests and over most of the relevant kinematic phase space. In particular, it consistently improves the energy and mass resolutions, with a 30% better energy resolution obtained for transverse momenta pT > 500 GeV.

  • Two-particle Bose–Einstein correlations in pp collisions at s√=13s=13 TeV measured with the ATLAS detector at the LHC
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044 .- 1434-6052. ; 82:7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents studies of Bose–Einstein correlations (BEC) in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, using data from the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Data were collected in a special low-luminosity configuration with a minimum-bias trigger and a high-multiplicity track trigger, accumulating integrated luminosities of 151 μμb−1 and 8.4 nb−1, respectively. The BEC are measured for pairs of like-sign charged particles, each with |η|<2.5|η|<2.5, for two kinematic ranges: the first with particle pT>100 MeV and the second with particle pT>500 MeV. The BEC parameters, characterizing the source radius and particle correlation strength, are investigated as functions of charged-particle multiplicity (up to 300) and average transverse momentum of the pair (up to 1.5 GeV). The double-differential dependence on charged-particle multiplicity and average transverse momentum of the pair is also studied. The BEC radius is found to be independent of the charged-particle multiplicity for high charged-particle multiplicity (above 100), confirming a previous observation at lower energy. This saturation occurs independent of the transverse momentum of the pair.
