  • Using simulation games to assess critical infrastructure resilience in case of payment disruptions
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 7th Resilience Engingeering Association (REA) International Symposium, Liege, Belgium, 26-29 June 2017. ; , s. 1-7
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents a theoretical outline, and a tentative assessment approach, for resilience in the fuel, food, and finance systems needed to create a gaming simulation environment. The purpose of developing the simulation gaming environment is to provide team-training to decision-makers in handling crisis situations in a multi-organisational context. Gaming simulation aims at representing reality and enabling an individual actor or a group of actors to experience the dynamics of the simulated system. The concept of core values and resilience value networks will be used to guide the simulation approach so that all core functions of a resilient system, as well as coping strategies, will be addressed in the gaming sessions.

  • Power Level Sampling of Metal Cutting Machines for Data Representation in Discrete Event Simulation
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Production Research. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0020-7543 .- 1366-588X. ; 53:23, s. 7060-7070
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An extension to the application area for discrete event simulation (DES) has been ongoing since the last decade and focused only on economic aspects to include ecologic sustainability. With this new focus, additional input parameters, such as electrical power consumption of machines, are needed. This paper aim at investigating how NC machine power consumption should be represented in simulation models of factories. The study includes data-sets from three different factories. One factory producing truck engine blocks, one producing brake disc parts for cars and one producing forklift components. The total number of data points analysed are more than 2,45,000, where of over 1,11,000 on busy state for 11 NC machines. The low variability between busy cycles indicates that statistical representations are not adding significant variability. Furthermore, results show that non-value-added activities cause a substantial amount of the total energy consumption, which can be reduced by optimising the production flow using dynamic simulations such as DES.

  • Revisiting Software Requirements Specifications-What Could We Learn
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: MIS Review. - : Department of Management Information Systems. - 1018-1393 .- 2218-3450. ; 17:2, s. 31-57
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Software requirements specifications (SRSs) are important documentations that reports results of system requirements determination (SRD) when developing software. It forms a base for subsequent activities in a system development process. In order to increase the knowledge of SRS and how such documentation could be structured we present an analysis of nine SRSs. From the analysis of similarities and differences in composition and requirements organization in the SRSs we aim at giving some advice on how a SRS could be improved and thereby supporting development of information systems better. The analysis shows that the overall structure of the SRSs either follows the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) standard 830 with three main sections (introduction -- overview -- list of requirements), or another structure (introduction -- references -- list of requirements). However, how specific requirements then are structured and presented differ from SRS to SRS. The most frequent type of requirements is functional requirements, which is not a big surprise. However, more unpredictable is that non-functional requirements are getting less attention. One conclusion is that even though using standards might not be the only way to formulate SRSs, they are being used and serve their purposes, at least to some extent. However, it can also be concluded that the high focus on functional requirements in standards could be seen as an influential factor explaining why SRSs have such a high focus on functional requirements. The main conclusion is that future SRSs should spend more focus on non-functional requirements since these are both more difficult to describe and will probably play an even more important role when developing information systems in the future.

  • A comparison of experiences of training emergency care in military exercises and competences among conscript nurses with different levels of education
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Military Medicine. - : Association of Military Surgeons. - 0026-4075 .- 1930-613X. ; 172:10, s. 1046-1052
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The military emergency care education of nurses is primarily concerned with the treatment of soldiers with combat-related injuries. Even though great progress has been made in military medicine, there is still the pedagogical question of what emergency care education for military nurses should contain and how it should be taught. The aim of this study was to describe and compare experiences of training emergency care in military exercises among conscript nurses with different levels of education. A descriptive study was performed to describe and compare experiences of training emergency care in military exercises among conscript nurses with different levels of education in nursing. There were statistical differences between nurses with general nursing education and nurses with a general nursing education and supplementary education. A reasonable implication of the differences is that the curriculum must be designed differently depending on the educational background of the students. Hence, there is an interaction between background characteristics, e.g., the level of previous education and differences pertaining to clinical experience of the participants, and the impact of the exercise itself.

  • School Health Services’ Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Interorganizational Collaboration Regarding Students With Mental Illness : A Scoping Review
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of School Nursing. - : Sage Publications. - 1059-8405 .- 1546-8364.
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • School health services (SHSs) and school nurses play a crucial role in identifying and supporting students with mental illness. The integration of information and communication technology (ICT) can facilitate interorganizational collaboration in this context. Due to the limited research in this area, a scoping review was conducted to explore SHSs’ use of ICT in interorganization collaboration regarding students with mental illness. Six articles were reviewed, revealing three key themes: “types of ICT employed by SHSs in interorganizational collaboration,” “constellation of SHSs in interorganizational collaboration,” and “opportunities and challenges for SHSs using ICT in interorganizational collaboration.” Notably, two of the six articles highlighted the absence of school nurses in interorganizational collaboration. Even though ICT plays a crucial role in interorganizational collaboration, no comprehensive solution was found. This scoping review confirms that there are challenges with operability and regulations that govern the exchange of private information between organizations.

  • A Low Cost Video See-Through Head Mounted Display for Increased Situation Awareness in an Augmented Environment
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of 5th INTUITION International Conference. - 9789608902879
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we present a visual odometry system for agricultural field robots that is not sensitive to uneven terrain. A stereo camera system is mounted perpendicular to the ground and height and traveled distance are calculated using normalized cross correlation. A method for evaluating the system is developed, where flower boxes containing representative surfaces are placed in a metal-working lathe. The cameras are mounted on the carriage which can be positioned manually with 0.1 mm accuracy. Images are captured every 10 mm over 700 mm. The tests are performed on eight different surfaces representing real world situations. The resulting error is less than 0.6% of traveled distance on surfaces where the maximum height variation is measured to 96 mm. The variance is measured for eight test runs, total 5.6 m, to 0.040 mm. This accuracy is sufficient for crop-scale agricultural operations.

  • Omnidirectional Robotic Telepresence through Augmented Virtuality for Increased Situation Awareness in Hazardous Environments
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Systems, Man and Cybernetics. - : IEEE. - 9781424427949 - 9781424427932 ; , s. 6-11
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper proposes a novel low-cost robotic telepresence approach to situation awareness, initially aimed for hazardous environments. The robot supports omnidirectional movement, wide field of vision, haptic feedback and binaural sound. It is controlled through an augmented virtuality environment with an intuitive position displacement scheme that supports physical mobility. The operator thereby can conduct work away from danger whilst retaining situation awareness of the real environment.

  • A Bayesian network approach to threat evaluation with application to an air defense scenario
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Information Fusion, FUSION 2008, Cologne, 30 June 2008–3 July 2008. - : IEEE Computer Society. - 9783000248832 - 9783800730926 ; , s. 1352-1358
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, a precise description of the threat evaluation process is presented. This is followed by a review describing which parameters that have been suggested for threat evaluation in an air surveillance context throughout the literature, together with an overview of different algorithms for threat evaluation. Grounded in the findings from the literature review, a threat evaluation system have been developed. The system is based on a Bayesian network approach, making it possible to handle imperfect observations. The structure of the Bayesian network is described in detail. Finally, an analysis of the system’s performance as applied to a synthetic scenario is presented.
