  • Försoningens mellanrum : en analys av Daphne Hampsons och Rita Nakashima Brocks teologiska tolkningar
  • 2008
  • Doctoral thesis (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • The overall purpose of this thesis is to illuminate and critically evaluate Christian theology of atonement and redemption, in order to contribute to contemporary theology of atonement and redemption. The purpose is reached through an analysis of the work of two contemporary feminist theologians; Daphne Hampson and Rita Nakashima Brock. Hampson has formulated a sharp post-Christian position. Brock has distinguished herself through her critique of the Christian concept of atonement and through her contributions to reconciliation and redemption. Both Daphne Hampson and Rita Nakashima Brock argue that Christian atonement-theology, primarily the so called objective model, is hurtful to children and victims of abuse and violence. They both argue that theological language is not innocent. At the same time, they illustrate broken relationships, sufferings, and problems they want to change, give theological interpretations of how that change is to take place and present methodologies on how to reach reconciliation between human beings and God as well as between human beings. In two steps I undertake a critical analysis of content and presuppositions in Daphne Hampson’s and Rita Nakashima Brock’s theologies of atonement and redemption. In the first step, I describe Hampson’s and Brock’s critique of Christian atonement-theology. I analyze their theological critique and theological construction in a model "from-transition-to". My critical analysis focuses especially on internal consistency. In the second part, the analysis of presuppositions, I explain basic principles upon which they shape their theology. The analysis is made up by the analytical concepts; theoretical arguments of knowledge, understandings of faith, and the position of the subject. I also analyze other essential concepts out of which gender is one.In the last chapter I present my own constructive contribution, structured by content and presuppositions. I argue that theology is both a critical and constructive discipline. In the content-response I discuss images of God, the tragic, the cross, and the hope. In the presuppositions-response I discuss the concept "space-in-between". In conclusion I propose that theology of atonement/redemption is shaped between post and Christian. I argue that space-in-between-perspectives are necessarily experimental and critical, a space on the border where marginalized voices are to be included.

  • A Deleuzian analysis of Thomas Altizer's style
  • 2009
  • In: Literature & Theology. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 0269-1205 .- 1477-4623. ; 23:2, s. 207-219
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This article offers a new entrance into the radical theology of Thomas J. J. Altizer and suggests a contemporary relevance of his theology that might not yet be fully acknowledged. By relating Altizer's theology to the French thinker Gilles Deleuze's notions of repetition and the actual/virtual the article suggests a subversive force in precisely those stylistic characteristics of Altizer's prose that have been critiqued for indicating an incomplete break with modernist thought.

  • Predikantskap och församling : Sex fallstudier av en ecklesial baspraktik inom svensk frikyrklighet fram till 1960-talet

  • Doctoral thesis (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • The aim of this thesis is to discuss the ecclesial character of preacherchip, and to present a deeper understanding of it as a fundamental expression of being church. The underlying hypothesis is that different kinds of preachership are creating different kinds of ecclesial communities. And vice versa: Various kinds of ecclesial communities are creating different kinds of preachership . The discussion is related to six ecclesiological case studies of preachership within the Free Church traditions in Sweden. The preachers are F. O. Nilsson (1809–1881), the founder of the first Baptist congregation in Sweden; P. P. Waldenström (1838–1917), theologian and the leader of the Mission Covenant Church of Sweden; Nelly Hall (1848–1916), travelling preacher and missionary in the Holiness Movement in Sweden; Hj. Danielson (1881–1954), Baptist minister in Stockholm and one of the first preachers on the radio; L. Pethrus (1884–1974), minster in Filadelfiakyrkan in Stockholm and the leader of the Swedish Pentecostal Movement; C. G. Hjelm (1903–1965), travelling Pentecostal Baptist minister and a popular preacher on casette tapes. Different elements in the act of preaching – sermon, listener, preacher and situation – are revealed and analysed in the case studies. At the end of each case study the various elements are comprehended in an ecclesial practice, here named preachership (cf. leader – leadership, episkopos – episkopé). This concept of preachership transcends traditional understandings of ministries in the churches. Preachership as a result of the analysis is used to discover operative ecclesiologies in the communites, formed and integrated by preachership. The thesis shows that there has been an unprecedented multitude of ecclesiologies within the Free Church traditions in Sweden. The Church has a fundamental communicative charachter, and in one sense the Church arises from listening. The sign and instrument for this is an ecclesial practice – preachership.
