  • Statistical combination of several important standard model Higgs boson search channels
  • 2009
  • Reports (peer-reviewed)abstract
    •     In this note we describe statistical procedures for combination of results from independent searches for the Higgs boson. Here only the Standard Model Higgs is considered, although the methods can easily be extended to non-standard Higgs models as well as to other searches. The methods are applied to Monte Carlo studies of four important search channels: H to tau+ tau-, H to W+ W- to e-nu mu-nu, H to gamma gamma, and H to ZZ)(*) to 4 leptons. The statistical treatment relies on a large sample approximation that is expected to be valid for an integrated luminosity of at least 2 fb-1 . Results are presented for the expected statistical significance of discovery and expected exclusion limits.

  • 2004
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • In D3.1 the first concept for a WINNER radio network deployment mainly focused on relay basedconcepts are proposed. Further the concept of an radio and protocol architecture is presented that takes upthe relaying approach as well as the idea of having different WINNER radio interface modes to servedifferent user and usage scenarios in an optimal manner. Thereby the presented protocol concept is basedon generic and mode specific user an control plane functionalities, where the common functions fordifferent modes are generalised and provide a common interface towards upper layer functions/protocols.Further some relaying concepts for urban hot area coverage including mesh networks are presentedaccompanied by promising simulation results. In addition to the relaying concepts benchmarks have beenproduced to allow a comparison of new concepts against today’s systems.

  • EU FP6 IST-2003-507581 WINNER, D3.2 Description of identified new relay based radio network deployment
  • 2005
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • Following the WINNER vision of a ubiquitous radio system providing wireless access for a wide range ofservices and applications across all environments D3.2 has consequently continued the work of D3.1towards a WINNER deployment concept. To cover the requirements of a WINNER RAN the flexiblenode architecture has been further elaborated. The envisaged WINNER modes are taken into account bymulti-mode protocol architecture that allows to exploit commonalities between different modes leading toa very flexible protocol and a close integration of the WINNER modes. The first steps towards concepts harmonisation are presented by categorising the large number ofdeployment concept proposals coming from D3.1 into logical groups. Further results on the comparisonbetween single-hop and multi-hop are shown in D3.2 accompanied by the presentation and assessment ofrelated routing strategies. Also the cooperative relaying concept has been driven forward and new resultshave been achieved in this field.Next to multi-hop, the single hop based deployment concepts have been elaborated partly with respect tonew air interface technologies. Finally D3.2 describes a system level simulation methodology to simulatethe deployment concepts based on the new WINNER air interface taking the agreed scenarios intoaccount.

  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • Following the WINNER vision of a ubiquitous radio system providing wireless access for a wide range ofservices and applications across all environments, D3.4 has continued the evolution of relay-baseddeployment concepts presented in D3.1 and D3.2 towards an understanding of the best deploymentconcepts for the envisioned WINNER scenarios. Continued work on concepts harmonization is reportedas well as evolved relaying concepts.

  • 2011
  • Book (pop. science, debate, etc.)abstract

  • Supersymmetry parameter analysis : SPA convention and project
  • 2006
  • In: European Physical Journal C. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044 .- 1434-6052. ; C46, s. 43-60
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • High-precision analyses of supersymmetry parameters aim at reconstructing the fundamental supersymmetric theory and its breaking mechanism. A well defined theoretical framework is needed when higher-order corrections are included. We propose such a scheme, Supersymmetry Parameter Analysis SPA, based on a consistent set of conventions and input parameters. A repository for computer programs is provided which connect parameters in different schemes and relate the Lagrangian parameters to physical observables at LHC and high energy e(+)e(-) linear collider experiments, i.e., masses, mixings, decay widths and production cross sections for supersymmetric particles. In addition, programs for calculating high-precision low energy observables, the density of cold dark matter (CDM) in the universe as well as the cross sections for CDM search experiments are included. The SPA scheme still requires extended efforts on both the theoretical and experimental side before data can be evaluated in the future at the level of the desired precision. We take here an initial step of testing the SPA scheme by applying the techniques involved to a specific supersymmetry reference point.
