  • Resuscitation in Preterm Infants; Extended Documentation of Procedures

    • Background: A lung protective strategy of ventilation is recommended during resuscitation in newborn infants limiting tidal volume to less than 8 ml/kg to reduce the risk of lung overdistention, volutrauma. As the mechanical properties of the respiratory system change rapidly after birth monitoring of respiratory function is recommended also during the first minutes of life to avoid lung injury (J Pediatr 2008;153:741)Objective: To follow respiratory function parameters, such as tidal volume (Vt), respiratory system compliance (Crs) and resistance (Rrs) during resuscitation in preterm infants. Derived data together with the clinical signs are used to describe and document the course of the resuscitation .Design/Methods: A pneumotachometer with a pressure port was attached to the face mask (Neopuff® or Laerdal®) or to the ET-tube (for intubated patients). Flow and pressure were measured and used to derive respiratory system mechanics (Crs and Rrs) together with corresponding positive inspiratory pressure (PIP) and Vt. Ten infants [median (range) birth weight 0.84 (0.47-1.3) kg; GA 25.5 (25-29) weeks] with apnoea and bradycardia (heart rate (HR)

  • Hybrid digital manufacturing: Capturing the value of digitalization
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Operations Management. - : Wiley. - 1873-1317 .- 0272-6963. ; 69:6, s. 890-910
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A chasm is growing between the advanced technologies available for improving manufacturing operations and those effectively used in practice. The vision of Industry 4.0 is to mobilize industry to seek out these possibilities for improvement and to close the gap between opportunity and reality. However, when compared with more established improvement opportunities such as lean manufacturing, the digitalization of manufacturing lacks in both paradigmatic examples and an understanding of how to achieve the benefits. This lack is a complication of concern: Without an appropriate operations strategy to capture the value of digitalization, manufacturing companies will be unable to focus on technological investments and operational changes. To address this concern, operations management academics must develop new theory through active engagement in the practice of digitalization in manufacturing. This research presents a paradigmatic example, based on engaged scholarship, focused on effectively combining novel object-interactive and conventional manufacturing syntax for benefiting from digitalization in internal operations and the wider supply chain. The contribution to literature is a novel operations strategy—hybrid digital manufacturing—for capturing the value of Industry 4.0 technologies.

  • Genetic variation of the growth hormone secretagogue receptor gene is associated with alcohol use disorders identification test scores and smoking
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Addiction Biology. - : Wiley. - 1355-6215 .- 1369-1600. ; 21:2, s. 481-488
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The multifaceted gut-brain peptide ghrelin and its receptor (GHSR-1a) are implicated in mechanisms regulating not only the energy balance but also the reward circuitry. In our pre-clinical models, we have shown that ghrelin increases whereas GHSR-1a antagonists decrease alcohol consumption and the motivation to consume alcohol in rodents. Moreover, ghrelin signaling is required for the rewarding properties of addictive drugs including alcohol and nicotine in rodents. Given the hereditary component underlying addictive behaviors and disorders, we sought to investigate whether single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) located in the pre-proghrelin gene (GHRL) and GHSR-1a gene (GHSR) are associated with alcohol use, measured by the alcohol use disorders identification test (AUDIT) and smoking. Two SNPs located in GHRL, rs4684677 (Gln90Leu) and rs696217 (Leu72Met), and one in GHSR, rs2948694, were genotyped in a subset (n = 4161) of a Finnish population-based cohort, the Genetics of Sexuality and Aggression project. The effect of these SNPs on AUDIT scores and smoking was investigated using linear and logistic regressions, respectively. We found that the minor allele of the rs2948694 SNP was nominally associated with higher AUDIT scores (P = 0.0204, recessive model) and smoking (P = 0.0002, dominant model). Furthermore, post hoc analyses showed that this risk allele was also associated with increased likelihood of having high level of alcohol problems as determined by AUDIT scores ≥ 16 (P = 0.0043, recessive model). These convergent findings lend further support for the hypothesized involvement of ghrelin signaling in addictive disorders.

  • The cancer genome atlas pan-cancer analysis project
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Nature Genetics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1061-4036 .- 1546-1718. ; 45:10, s. 1113-1120
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) Research Network has profiled and analyzed large numbers of human tumors to discover molecular aberrations at the DNA, RNA, protein and epigenetic levels. The resulting rich data provide a major opportunity to develop an integrated picture of commonalities, differences and emergent themes across tumor lineages. The Pan-Cancer initiative compares the first 12 tumor types profiled by TCGA. Analysis of the molecular aberrations and their functional roles across tumor types will teach us how to extend therapies effective in one cancer type to others with a similar genomic profile. © 2013 Nature America, Inc.
