  • Before YouTube and Indymedia : Cultural memory and the archive of video collectives in Germany in the 1970s and 1980s
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Studies in European Cinema. - Bristol : Intellect Ltd.. - 1741-1548 .- 2040-0594. ; 8:3, s. 171-181
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Collective film-making practice in Germany is still a blind spot in film historiography. During the 1970s and 1980s independent film and video workshops established a nationwide network to provide ‘counter information’ (Negt/Kluge) in order to challenge dominant media representations. Therefore, the works of the video collectives can become a relevant source for historians and journalists alike. While the videos can be perceived as an important contribution to left-wing cultural memory, this memory of the various media practices of the last decades is currently fading away. The videotapes slowly disintegrate and as digitization is costly and time-consuming, many video productions will not survive. This has consequences not only for historiography, but also for the visual iconography of cultural memory. This article focuses on the archival practice of three workshops in Hamburg, the stronghold for German independent film-making after 1968: the Medienpädagogikzentrum (Centre for Media Pedagogy, 1973–), bildwechsel (1979–), the umbrella organization for women in media, culture and art, and die thede (1980–), an association of documentary film-makers. The examples show how archival practice can be conceptualized not only as part of the hegemonic national archive alone, but also as an act of counter-memory. © 2011 Intellect Ltd Article.

  • E-Maintenance as an Emerging Customer Value Generating IT-Enabled Resource
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: MCIS 2012 Proceedings. - : Elsevier.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper reports business related challenges and opportunities for e-maintenance as an emerging customer value generating IT-enabled resource. The research study is concerned with the e- maintenance based on remote diagnostics in the vehicle industry. E-maintenance of vehicles is of great importance as e-maintenance technology has great potential to provide various state of the art maintenance related services for the vehicles. This emerging technology brings challenges and opportunities to generate value both for the companies and their customers. In this paper, we have presented several business related challenges and opportunities for e-maintenance. In the form of a set of propositions, the contribution of this paper is to conceptualize e-maintenance as an emerging customer value generating IT-enabled resource by showing challenges and opportunities related to it.

  • Between empowerment and powerlessness : Separated minors in Sweden
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: New Directions for Child and Adolescent Development. - Hoboken, NJ : John Wiley & Sons. - 1520-3247 .- 1534-8687. ; 2012:136, s. 65-77
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article analyzes the migration experiences of thirteen separated minors who arrived in Sweden between 1943 and 2008. Using the framework of "dislocation" and the "liberated self," this chapter shows that the experiences of separated minors are shaped in the intersection between contexts and conditions of transnational migration and the Swedish reception system. Their efforts to continue living based on the past and building a new life during a period of transition between different countries and between childhood and adulthood can be described as "a life on hold." The paradox that migration serves simultaneously to empower and render children powerless is discussed.

  • Community Interpreter Training in Spoken Languages in Sweden
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Interpreter Education. - San Diego, CA : Conference of Interpreter Trainers. - 2150-5772. ; 4:2, s. 24-38
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this article is to analyze the community interpreter training program in Sweden and, based on the results of two research projects, describe structural conditions and shortcomings. The authors discuss Sweden’s laws and regulations, the changing demand for interpreting service in society, the open access ideology within adult education associations, and the limitation of economic resources for fulfilling the demand for trained interpreters. Interpreter training in Sweden is built on public-service needs in the areas of social insurance, the labor market, health care, and court interpreting. It is focused on factual knowledge and terminology and devotes little time for developing aspects of ethical rules, the role of the interpreter, and technical issues. In order to make progress possible it is important to use existing research and theory to develop didactics for community interpreting training. © The authors and CIT

  • Teacher students’ subject-positions in Web based discussions about educational science
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: NORDISCO 2012. ; , s. 43-43
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the field of teacher education the rising popularity of using social media technologies as a resource in the teaching activities has contributed to an extension of new possibilities and tools for learning. However less often the implementation is followed by a discussion about what learning qualities those environments offer. This paper is work-in-progress dealing with student conversations in such learning forum. Data consists of the posts made by five teacher students on a Web based forum during five weeks. Within this period they started thirty conversations that all together resulted in 67 pages of text. All the conversations were printed out and thoroughly analysed. The main questions of interest during the reading of the data material was: 1) What issues are discussed in the student conversations? 2) How are they writing about those areas according to the rhetoric? At the next analytical level questions of subject positions and discourses are handled. The study uses two discourse analytical perspectives, both founded in social constructionism and post-structuralistic theory. Discursive psychology that mainly is focusing on the actor and the resources used in a conversation, and discourse theory that large extent is focusing on the discourses. The combination opens up for a two-sided analysis where the interesting relationship between agency and structure may be analysed. The aim of this research project is to analyse and discuss teacher students web based conversations in an educational science course. The preliminary results show that a variation of subject-positions is made possible in the conversations, where the subject educational science is extended and related to more personal and private spheres in the students’ everyday life. The project is interesting because it opens up for a discussion of learning qualities in relation to Web based platforms.
