- High-spin states in Ba-124 were populated using the Ni-64 (Ni-64,4n) Ba-124 reaction at beam energies of 255 and 261 MeV. Gamma-ray coincidences were measured using the EUROBALL detector array. The charged-particle detector array DIAMANT provided channel selection. The previously known rotational bands are extended to higher spins. Five new hands are observed, one of them extends up to the spin 40h region.

- Excited states in Xe-124 were populated in the reaction Se-82(Ca-48, 6n) Xe-124 and gamma-ray coincidence relationships were measured with the Gammasphere spectrometer. Two new bands are observed and several of the previously known bands are extended in the high-as well as in the low-spin region. Two irregular high-spin structures are also added. The irregularities are a fingerprint of a transition from collective to non-collective behaviour. Configuration assignments to the new structures are proposed on the basis of systematics and by comparing experimental properties with calculations within the framework of the cranking model.

- In this paper we focus on MPSoC architectures for human heart ECGreal-time monitoring and analysis. This is a very relevant bio-medicalapplication, with a huge potential market, hence it is an ideal targetfor an application-specific SoC implementation. We investigate asymmetric multi-processor architecture based on STMicroelectronicsVLIW DSPs that process in real-time 12-lead ECG signals. Thisarchitecture improves upon state-of-the-art SoC designs for ECGanalysis in its ability to analyze the full 12 leads in real-time, evenwith high sampling frequencies, and ability to detect heartmalfunction. We explore the design space by considering a number ofhardware and software architectural options.

- In this paper, we propose a Tele-medicine application platform as a medical aid for patients suffering from Heart malfunction. We focus on heart diseases since they remain by far the major cause of death in the globe. Our solution utilizes the Satellite communication protocol DVB-RCS (Digital Video Broadcast- Return Channel Satellite), Wi-Fi, and the Network-on-Chip (NoC) technology. We utilize the 12-lead ECG biomedical technique to detect heart disorders via the biomedical NoC, which transmits the medical alarm and results via the biomedical network, ECG-BIONET. We do not investigate the DVB-RCS standard or Wi-Fi technology, but rather we try to utilize this technology, and we look at it from a performance point of view for our application by investigating three parameters, namely: delay, packet loss, and reliability. We follow a top down approach by looking at the needs of the application from a performance guarantee for our specific-purpose network.

- This work addresses the problem of sharing execution plans for queries that continuously cluster streaming data to provide an evolving summary of the data stream. This is challenging since clustering is an expensive task, there might be many clustering queries running simultaneously, each continuous query has a long life time span, and the execution plans often overlap. Clustering is similar to conventional grouped aggregation but cluster formation is more expensive than group formation, which makes incremental maintenance more challenging. The goal of this work is to minimize response time of continuous clustering queries with limited resources through multi-query optimization. To that end, strategies for sharing execution plans between continuous clustering queries are investigated and the architecture of a system is outlined that optimizes the processing of multiple such queries. Since there are many clustering algorithms, the system should be extensible to easily incorporate user defined clustering algorithms.

- Frågan om hur vi examinerar i högskolan väcker ofta intresse och märks tydligt, inte minst i den vardagliga kontakten studenter och lärare emellan. Kommer det här på tentan, är en fråga som få universitetslärare har undgått. Intresset för företeelsen examination märks också i de många studier och utredningar som gjorts över tid. Där har såväl politiska krafter som universi-tetsledningar ofta stått för initiativtagandet, medan akademins egna organ och enskilda utövare lika ofta bidragit med erfarenheter och professionellt kunnande.Den rapport som här presenteras bygger på den s.k. Grundutbildningsdagen vid Linköpings universitet hösten 2007, ett samarrangemang kring examination mellan studentkårerna, fakulteterna och Centrum för undervisning och lärande (CUL). Rubriken för dagen var Examination – mer än en tentamen och syftet var att på lärosätesnivå stimulera till diskussion och reflektion mellan studenter och lärare kring företeelsen examination. Som inspiratör och som inledare på dagen inbjöds Åsa Lindberg-Sand, universitetslektor från Lunds universitet och medverkade gjorde även universitets-kansler Anders Flodström och vår egen rektor Mille Millnert.

Assessment of Quality when Delivering Molten Aluminium Alloys Instead of Ingots

- Recycled aluminium alloys manufactured at Stena Aluminium, in Älmhult, Sweden, are delivered in special designed transport containers, called thermoses. Thermoses are best described as an insulating layer protected by a steel cover with a heat loss of about 5 degrees/h. Three thermoses are transported by a truck, giving the possibility for a total capacity of about 24 tonnes delivered aluminium just-in-time to the foundry. By delivering a full load of liquid aluminium, about 2 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions are saved, compared with delivering ingots. The aim of the paper is to assess the quality benefits, in terms of inclusions sedimentation and mechanical properties, assured by delivering aluminiummelts instead of ingots. The results indicate that materials produced by just-in-time melt delivery have slightly improved quality compared to ingots. The trends are explained in terms of quality, density and bifilm indexes, based on microstructural observations as well as tensile test data analysis.

- GRETA – a case study on die-cast secondary aluminiumIn ongoing production at AGES in Kulltorp, die-cast components of a secondary aluminium alloy have been continuously taken out for mechanical testing and microstructure investigations. The aim has been to increase the understanding of whether properties vary and, if so, why. In an industrial and well-controlled process, the properties and performance of the obtained material has been analysed for comparison with the original secondary alloy and its specification to see how the material varies during production. The results showed a uniform quality of the produced castings. The hardness test also showed very even results for each component. No statistical difference between the samples could be demonstrated. This means that even if some data collected from the castings were on the edge of the desired range, the properties have not been significantly affected. In other words, there is a higher potential in recycled alloys than that reported in the standard SS-EN 1706:2021. Solidification rate, possible heat treatment and the amount of defects play a decisive role in the final properties of a cast part. By optimizing these, properties that exceed the standard can be obtained.
