  • INVESTMENT MEMO ABOWE PILOT B SWEDEN
  • 2014
  • Rapport (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This report is one output of ABOWE project (Implementing Advanced Concepts for Biological Utilization of Waste), which belongs to EU Baltic Sea Region Programme 2007-2013. ABOWE works with two promising technologies to unlock investments. Two mobile pilot plants have been built and will be tested in several Baltic Sea regions. These pilots are based on a novel biorefinery concept from Finnoflag Oy, Finland, known as Pilot A as well as a German dry fermentation process, known as Pilot B. The pilots form the basis for compilation of Investment Memos and organizing Investor Events. Also a regional model is used to evaluate the new processes’ economic and climatic impacts in each region. The desired outcome from ABOWE is implementer/investor driven continuation projects targeting full-scaleplant investments of the two technologies. The purpose of ABOWE Work Package 2 is to gather and communicate information from many aspects of technologies which are piloted with Pilot A and Pilot B to support investment decisions for full scale plants. In practice, a demo full scaleplant would be needed in order to convince the commercial investors and implementers to full scale plants. This means that ABOWE provides with profound information and a step forward regarding the two technologies. After ABOWE, the technology will need development for full-scale, and the feasibility will need further analysis. An implementer and investor should be found to conduct development further towards full-scale demo plant.

  • K*(892)(0) and phi(1020) production in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN)=2.76 TeV
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 91:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The yields of the K*(892)(0) and phi(1020) resonances are measured in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV through their hadronic decays using the ALICE detector. The measurements are performed in multiple centrality intervals at mid-rapidity (vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.5) in the transverse-momentum ranges 0.3 < p(T) < 5 GeV/c for the K*(892)(0) and 0.5 < p(T) < 5 GeV/c for the phi(1020). The yields of K*(892)(0) are suppressed in central Pb-Pb collisions with respect to pp and peripheral Pb-Pb collisions (perhaps due to rescattering of its decay products in the hadronic medium), while the longer-lived phi(1020) meson is not suppressed. These particles are also used as probes to study the mechanisms of particle production. The shape of the pT distribution of the phi(1020) meson, but not its yield, is reproduced fairly well by hydrodynamic models for central Pb-Pb collisions. In central Pb-Pb collisions at low and intermediate p(T), the p/phi(1020) ratio is flat in p(T), while the p/pi and phi(1020)/pi ratios show a pronounced increase and have similar shapes to each other. These results indicate that the shapes of the p(T) distributions of these particles in central Pb-Pb collisions are determined predominantly by the particle masses and radial flow. Finally, phi(1020) production in Pb-Pb collisions is enhanced, with respect to the yield in pp collisions and the yield of charged pions, by an amount similar to the Lambda and Xi.

  • Measurement of electrons from semileptonic heavy-flavor hadron decays in pp collisions at root s=2.76 TeV
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Physical Review D (Particles, Fields, Gravitation and Cosmology). - 1550-2368. ; 91:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The p(T)-differential production cross section of electrons from semileptonic decays of heavy-flavor hadrons has been measured at midrapidity in proton-proton collisions at root s = 2.76 TeV in the transverse momentum range 0.5 < p(T) < 12 GeV/c with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The analysis was performed using minimum bias events and events triggered by the electromagnetic calorimeter. Predictions from perturbative QCD calculations agree with the data within the theoretical and experimental uncertainties.

  • Technical Design Report for the Upgrade of the ALICE Inner Tracking System
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics G: Nuclear and Particle Physics. - : IOP Publishing. - 0954-3899 .- 1361-6471. ; 41:8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • LICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) is studying the physics of strongly interacting matter, and in particular the properties of the Quark–Gluon Plasma (QGP), using proton–proton, proton–nucleus and nucleus–nucleus collisions at the CERN LHC (Large Hadron Collider). The ALICE Collaboration is preparing a major upgrade of the experimental apparatus, planned for installation in the second long LHC shutdown in the years 2018–2019. A key element of the ALICE upgrade is the construction of a new, ultra-light, high-resolution Inner Tracking System (ITS) based on monolithic CMOS pixel detectors. The primary focus of the ITS upgrade is on improving the performance for detection of heavy-flavour hadrons, and of thermal photons and low-mass di-electrons emitted by the QGP. With respect to the current detector, the new Inner Tracking System will significantly enhance the determination of the distance of closest approach to the primary vertex, the tracking efficiency at low transverse momenta, and the read-out rate capabilities. This will be obtained by seven concentric detector layers based on a 50 μm thick CMOS pixel sensor with a pixel pitch of about 30×30 μm2. This document, submitted to the LHCC (LHC experiments Committee) in September 2013, presents the design goals, a summary of the R&D activities, with focus on the technical implementation of the main detector components, and the projected detector and physics performance.

  • Konstnärligt arbete (film/video) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Video-performance presented at the two-day international PhD event "Approaching Research Practice in Architecture. Five Questions" (13-14 October 2021, online). This two-day event, hosted by TU Munich and KTH Stockholm for the second time, takes as its point of departure the growing interest in practice-oriented research in the broadest sense, including expanding modes of work in well-established areas of architectural research such as architectural history and theory or urban and landscape studies. This recent ‘turn to practice’ manifests itself, first and foremost, in the flourishing of empirical and performative approaches and a host of experimental methods and forms of dissemination. The aim of the workshop is to reflect upon the multitude and diversity of current research practices. This event also marks the beginning of a doctoral course on research practices.

    • Absorptive capacity, conceptualized as identifying, selecting and integrating useful knowledge from the environment into commercial applications, is a key capability for any organization, team or individual. While prior literature has made substantial advancement into the performance consequences of absorptive capacity, few studies have addressed what actually constitutes ACAP on a micro level. Thus, there exists a significant gap within the literature concerning the micro-foundations of ACAP. This study attempts to fill this gap by means of multiple case studies within the R&D organizations of three multinational engineering firms. Our findings show how the micro foundations of absorptive capacity are rooted in individual skills, roles and relationships.

  • Development of an Internet Based Videoconferencing System for ACTION (Assisting Careers using Telematic Interventions to meet Older persons Needs
  • 2005
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The demographic trends in Sweden show that the population is growing older. The society is facing new challenges in providing a good and coste ective health care system. Many frail older people are taking care of their partner in their own homes: they become informal family carers without any prior nursing knowledge. The aim of this Thesis project is to develop tools for supporting family carers by using information and communication technology. More specifically, the task is to develop an Internet based videoconferencing system using the design and outcome of the ACTION project in year 1997-2002. The videoconferencing system can be used for communication between the family carers and the professional carers including purely social purposes. Successfully implemented, the videoconferencing system should provide better care and enhance the every day quality of life for the family carers. It should deliver a richer means of communication and reduce social isolation. The Thesis presents the technical specifications and implementation of the videoconferencing system. Since this system represents an integrated part of a larger information and communication system, some light is also shed on the more global technological infrastructure of the ACTION system. It is shown how an IP based commercial-scale care system consisting a of a computer, videophone and information database can be build upon the Internet infrastructure. The Thesis continues with a quantitative and a qualitative evaluation of the videoconferencing system in the form of user statistics and an interview study. Both family and professional carers were interviewed. The evaluation shows that the videoconfencing system is easy enough to use, it is used frequently and that it performs satisfactory. Furthermore, it contributes to a sense of presence and helps building informal social support networks among users. In conjunction with the other components of the ACTION model it can contribute to better care and enhance the everyday quality of life of frail older people and their family carers.

  • A Deep Neural Network Accelerator using Residue Arithmetic in a Hybrid Optoelectronic System
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: ACM Journal on Emerging Technologies in Computing Systems. - New York : Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). - 1550-4832 .- 1550-4840. ; 18:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The acceleration of Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) has attracted much attention in research. Many critical real-time applications benefit from DNN accelerators but are limited by their compute-intensive nature. This work introduces an accelerator for Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), based on a hybrid optoelectronic computing architecture and residue number system (RNS). The RNS reduces the optical critical path and lowers the power requirements. In addition, the wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) allows high-speed operation at the system level by enabling high-level parallelism. The proposed RNS compute modules use one-hot encoding, and thus enable fast switching between the electrical and optical domains. We propose a new architecture that combines residue electrical adders and optical multipliers as the matrix-vector multiplication unit. Moreover, we enhance the implementation of different CNN computational kernels using WDM-enabled RNS based integrated photonics. The area and power efficiency of the proposed accelerator are 0.39 TOPS/s/mm(2) and 3.22 TOPS/s/W, respectively. In terms of computation capability, the proposed chip is 12.7x and 4.02x better than other optical implementation and memristor implementation, respectively. Our experimental evaluation using DNN benchmarks illustrates that our architecture can perform on average more than 72 times faster than GPU under the same power budget. © 2023 ACM, Inc.
