  • Sports, storytelling and social media : a review and conceptualization
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Sports Marketing & Sponsorship. - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 1464-6668. ; 19:3, s. 338-349
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose - Professional sports organizations have a long tradition of utilizing stories as part of their marketing efforts. However, as the media landscape has undergone considerable change as a result of information and communication technologies, most notably through social media, the conditions under which storytelling evolve have altered significantly. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to explain how storytelling in the sports sector becomes integrated in social media.Design/methodology/approach - A conceptual review in three sequential steps is carried out. First, extant literature on the role and effects of storytelling is reviewed. This is followed by a review of the interplay between storytelling and the contemporary media landscape, with a particular focus on social media. Third, the authors link both literatures and, by doing so, illustrate the dynamic interplay of storytelling and social media in the sports sector.Findings - The conceptual review shows that storytelling can enact four sequential roles that are characterized by varying degrees of co-creation which, in relation to extant literature, has strong implications for the manageability of storytelling from the perspective of professional sports organizations.Originality/value - Based on the identified sequential roles that storytelling can enact in social media, this paper contributes to the field of sports marketing by depicting how the dynamics between storytelling and the social media landscape exhibit a shifting degree of manageability with regards to storytelling from the perspective of professional sports organizations.

  • Business Service Sourcing : A Literature Review and Agenda for Future Research
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: The International Journal of Integrated Supply Management. - : Inderscience. - 1477-5360 .- 1741-8097. ; 4:3/4, s. 378-405
  • Forskningsöversikt (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Business service sourcing is increasing in importance for firms; a trend recognised by significant research efforts among scholars. The rapidly expanding literature is, however, highly fragmented. It is difficult to grasp what has actually been investigated, and what remains to be studied. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to review, analyse and categorise empirical research in the area of business service sourcing. A total of 119 empirically-based articles published in peer-reviewed journals were identified and classified according to their focus of research, empirical context, and research methodology. Most articles dealt with the sourcing process or sourcing strategy, less with antecedents to sourcing and sourcing outcomes. Logistics and information systems/information technology services have received the most attention, as have European and North American service buyers. A majority of articles employed statistical methods of analysis.

  • John Haltiwanger : recipient of the 2020 Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Small Business Economics. - : Springer Nature. - 0921-898X .- 1573-0913. ; 58:1, s. 15-25
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The 2020 Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research has been awarded to Professor John Haltiwanger. John Haltiwanger has made significant contributions to the field of entrepreneurship by improving our understanding of job creation and destruction, productivity growth, and the role of small- and medium-sized firms (SMEs) in economic development. He has played a major role in the careful development of large, longitudinal firm-level datasets, and introduced a novel and widely adopted measure of firm growth that addresses previous statistical biases. His work has influenced public policy and national statistical offices around the world. Plain English Summary The winner of the 2020 Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research, John Haltiwanger, has pioneered research showing that it is mainly firm age, not size, that matters for job creation. Through analyzing the relationship between employment, growth, and firms, he has advanced our understanding of how the economy works. He has done this by building new datasets and introducing a new measure of firm growth, solving problems encountered with earlier techniques. His work has also broadened the policy debate on entrepreneurship and inspired people all around the world. From a policy perspective, John Haltiwanger has shown that it is difficult to justify targeted industrial and commercial policies, and if job creation is to be supported, politicians need to target young firms rather than small firms. These important findings from John Haltiwanger's pioneering work have been published in world-class leading academic and scientific journals.

  • Puritanical moralism may signal patience rather than cause self-control
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Behavioral and Brain Sciences. - : Cambridge University Press. - 0140-525X .- 1469-1825. ; 46
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We argue that people may resist temptations not only with the aim of acquiring more self-control, but also because they want to convince others that they are patient and already possess self-control.

  • Money laundering and sanctions enforcement : large rewards, leniency and witness protection for whistleblowers
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Money Laundering Control. - : Emerald Group Publishing. - 1368-5201 .- 1758-7808. ; 26:5, s. 912-925
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose – With sanctions becoming an increasingly important tool in ostracising autocratic regimes from western markets, the need for effective enforcement of sanctions and anti-money laundering (AML) is increasing, and the global AML regime will be the backbone to detecting evasion of sanctions. This regime, however, has been widely criticised as ineffective. This paper aims to discuss issues with the current sanctions/AML regime and propose a reward scheme for whistleblowers to enable asset seizures that is not reliant on its effectiveness.Design/methodology/approach – This paper reviews weaknesses in the global AML regime, provide suggestions on how to design whistleblower reward programmes, based on agency experience and empirical evidence, as well as elaborate on how to use such programmes in the AML context.Findings – This study concludes that for reward programmes to be effective in the context of AML and sanctions enforcement, they need to include witness protection and leniency for money launderers, though not for those convicted of a criminal offence associated with the predicate crime. Moreover, rewards should be mandatory and scale with the amount of money seized or confiscated, and the cap on monetary rewards should be higher than it is under the Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Rewards Programme in the USA.Originality/value – In contrast to how the USA went about implementing rewards in this area under the Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Rewards Programme, this study argues that these programmes should be designed differently. This study also provides novel advice to governments on different design dimensions in the AML context and a model with three crucial pillars along with other design dimensions that should be considered.

  • Normative Barriers to Imitation : Social Complexity of Core Competences in a Mutual Fund Industry
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Strategic Management Journal. - : Wiley. - 0143-2095 .- 1097-0266 .- 1932-443X. ; 30:5, s. 517-536
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Imperfectly imitable resources are central in contemporary analysis of sustainable competitive advantage. While prior work has focused on limitations on the ability to imitate, we argue that it is only a third step in an imitation procedure that also involves the identification of what to imitate and the willingness to imitate. In this study we focus on this last step of unwillingness to imitate due to institutionalized professional norms on product appropriateness. Drawing on institutional theory, we test hypotheses and discuss the complex relationship between institutionalized norms, core competences, and systematic differences in the willingness to imitate.

  • Sport in business studies : a state-of-the art literature review
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Sport, Business and Management. - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 2042-678X .- 2042-6798. ; 8:5, s. 529-546
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to provide a systematic review of articles on sport published in leading business studies journals within marketing, organisational studies and strategy.Design/methodology/approachBased on a review of 38 identified articles within the subfields of marketing, strategy and organisation studies published between 2000 and 2015, the articles’ topical, theoretical and methodological orientation within the studied subfields were analysed followed by a cross-subfield analysis.FindingsThe authors identify considerable differences in topical, theoretical and methodological orientation among the studied subfields’ associated articles. Overall, the authors also find that articles across all subfields tend to be focussed on contributing to mature theory, even though the subfield of marketing in particular exhibits contributions to nascent theory in contrast to organisation studies and strategy.Originality/valueThis paper contributes by illustrating the current state of research that is devoted or related to the phenomenon of sport within three subfields in business studies. Furthermore, the authors discuss the role played by leading business studies journals vis-à-vis sport sector-specific journals and offer avenues for future research.

  • Innovation management in service firms : a research agenda
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Service Business. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1862-8516 .- 1862-8508. ; 5:2, s. 177-193
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article suggests an agenda for further research on innovation management in service firms. It investigates differences and similarities between issues identified by previous academic research and issues brought up by practitioners within the area of innovation management in service firms. The results show that there are some major differences; for instance, researchers stress a need for formalized processes for development work, while practitioners focus on facilitating innovation in everyday operations. The main conclusion is that in order to bridge the gap between research and practice we would encourage further research on innovation in service firms to (1) conduct micro studies of innovation work, (2) view innovation in the context of everyday operations and (3) focus on co-workers' innovative potential.

  • The role of the board chair : A literature review and suggestions for future research
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Corporate governance. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 0964-8410 .- 1467-8683. ; 28:6, s. 372-405
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Research Question/IssueThe role of the board chair has become increasingly complex in recent decades. Research on corporate governance has called for and has initiated the pursuit of more research for the purpose of creating a better understanding of the role of board chairs. We reviewed 234 academic articles published in 66 journals, structured the existing research according to an Input‐Process‐Outcome‐Contexts framework, and provided a future research agenda for studies on the role of the board chair.Research Findings/InsightsOur review reveals that the number of published studies on the position of the board chair has grown over the last two decades. Although extant research is dominated by quantitative studies exploring the impact of the board chair position on financial performance, frequently drawing on agency and stewardship theory, recent work has moved beyond this focus and has added valuable insights. The Input‐Process‐Outcome‐Contexts framework used to structure the extant research reveals that future research should pursue topics related to all components of the framework and that opportunities exist to draw from a broader set of theories.Theoretical/Academic ImplicationsBased on the framework, we formulate seven specific research topics that can add valuable insights into the role of the board chair and suggest theories that can help inform research pursuing these topics. Taken together, these topics have the potential to create valuable insights into how board chairs are appointed, develop competencies, and interact and work with the CEO, the top management team, the board, and other stakeholders while acknowledging the influence of contextual factors, such as ownership, diversity, the firm's development stage, and external events and trends.Practitioner/Policy ImplicationsOur review shows a growing global movement toward prescribing more corporate governance regulations and separating the positions of the board chair and the CEO. We show that many aspects need to be considered when choosing a governance configuration and when appointing a board chair because this role is becoming increasingly demanding.
