  • Evaluating research : A multidisciplinary approach to assessing research practice and quality
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Research Policy. - : Elsevier BV. - 0048-7333 .- 1873-7625. ; 45:3, s. 593-603
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • There are few widely acknowledged quality standards for research practice, and few definitions of what constitutes good research. The overall aim was therefore to describe what constitutes research, and then to use this description to develop a model of research practice and to define concepts related to its quality. The primary objective was to explore such a model and to create a multidisciplinary understanding of the generic dimensions of the quality of research practice. Eight concept modelling working seminars were conducted. A graphic representation of concepts and their relationships was developed to bridge the gap between different disciplines. A concept model of research as a phenomenon was created, which included a total of 18 defined concepts and their relationships. In a second phase four main areas were distilled, describing research practice in a multidisciplinary context: Credible, Contributory, Communicable, and Conforming. Each of these was further specified in a concept hierarchy together with a defined terminology. A comprehensive quality model including 32 concepts, based on the four main areas, was developed for describing quality issues of research practice, where the model of research as a phenomenon was used to define the quality concepts. The quality model may be used for further development of elements, weights and operationalizations related to the quality of research practice in different academic fields. (C) 2015 The Authors. • Quality of Research Practice: Face validity questionnaire responses
  • 2018
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • There are few acknowledged quality standards for research practice and evaluation, even though universities are increasingly judged on research impact. This dataset contains questionnaire responses from 42 senior researchers working (within 18 different departments) at three major universities in Sweden about the importance of 32 defined criteria based on four main areas (credible, contributory, communicable, and conforming) describing indicators of research practice quality. I studien har 42 forskare (från 18 avdelningar) vid tre större universitet i Sverige svarat på en rad enkätfrågor om forskningskvalitet och forskningsutvärdering.

  • Educational hybrids: The importance of physical arenas to engage all senses.
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Sweden through the crisis. - Stockholm : Stockholm School of Economics Institute for Research. - 9789186797386 ; , s. 509-521
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In this article, Martin Carlsson-Wall and Pär Mårtensson discuss the importance of face-to-face education. Even though digital technology has a lot of potential, the authors highlight how physical arenas are important for mobilizing all senses. For business schools like the Stockholm School of Economics, a world-class experience is most likely driven by traditional face-to-face education.

  • A Longitudinal Investigation Of Business Angel Relationship Risk Mitigation Strategies Within Investments - A Three-dimensional Approach
  • 2015
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Business angel (BA) investing is associated with various types of risks, where relationship risk often is highlighted as being especially critical (Fiet, 1995). Three investor strategies for mitigating relationship risks associated with BA investing in young private firms can be traced in the literature: (i) indirect control through monitoring and rewarding/punishing entrepreneur behavior and output, (ii) direct control through active involvement, and (iii) relying on mutual trust (Van Osnabrugge and Robinson, 2000; Maxwell and Lévesque, 2011). While early research in the field adopted a rather static view on BA categorization (Coveney and Moore, 1998; Sørheim and Landström, 2001), more contemporary research shows that BAs change investment roles across investments (Avdeitchikova, 2008; Lahti, 2011). However, whether BAs behave differently regarding risk mitigation within investments is less explored. This explorative study contributes to the opening of the black box of how BAs may shift risk mitigation strategies over time within single investments.

  • IT & Business Performance : A Dynamic Relationship
  • 2006. - 1st
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • How and when does information technology (IT) contribute to the performance of the firm? Does IT provide competitive advantage? Why is IT so difficult to understand and manage? Does it have to be that way? This book explores the complex, dynamic relationship between IT and business performance. It contains studies of IT-related change in different contexts, and it also offers models, tools and approaches that further the understanding and management of IT and business performance. The book illustrates how value from IT is derived indirectly, through innovation of business processes and development of organizational capabilities. From this it follows that a deep understanding of the transformation of IT resources into business performance is crucial – because ultimately, it is the actions of people in a specific context that lead to realization of business performance improvements. The primary audience for this book is reflective practitioners working with IT & business Performance, such as chief information officers (CIOs), general managers and change agents. The book is also well suited for people studying these and related roles.

  • Transforming IT Resources into Business Performance
  • 2006. - 1st
  • Ingår i: IT & Business Performance: A Dynamic Relationship. - Stockholm : Ekonomiska forskningsinstitutet vid Handelshögskolan i Stockholm (EFI). - 9789144020693 - 9144020694 ; , s. 25-38
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • How and when does IT contribute to the performance of the firm? Does IT provide competitive advantage? Why is IT so difficult to understand and manage? Does it have to be that way? This chapter provides a condensed discussion of some key mechanisms in the dynamic relationship between IT, business performance and competitive advantage. It does so by employing a conceptual view that link IT resources, business processes and organizational capabilities. An underlying theme of the chapter is that managers need to have a rich understanding of how IT resources are transformed into business performance in order to adequately manage IT and integrate IT issues into strategic processes and governance activities. Knowing that IT contributes to business performance is simply not enough, because the complexity inherent in the task of transforming IT into business performance is not disappearing anytime soon. The discussion provided in this chapter is intended to contribute to a richer understanding of the transformation process.
