- This paper proposes a hedonic apartment price index construction method that can increase the quality of price index data for condominiums in Sweden. Currently, the public condominium price index that different actors usually refer to is based on mean and median prices per square metre. With access to a unique database with the most recent transactions data from real estate agents firms, I estimate alternative hedonic price indexes, and compare them both with each other, as well as with arithmetic mean and median price indexes.

- To realize societal benefits from mobile broadband deployment, national regulatory agencies (NRAs) seek to influence market conditions and thereby stimulate subscription growth. This study attempts to provide guidance to NRAs by identifying the factors that determine mobile broadband subscription via econometric modeling of a unique sample of 44 national 3G markets during 2001-2008. Mobile broadband subscription is modeled as dependent on the economic arguments of gross domestic product per capita (to proxy personal income), fixed broadband subscription, lagged mobile broadband subscription, mobile network coverage and the mode of spectrum licence assignment. The study finds that per capita income, fixed broadband subscription and lagged mobile broadband subscription enhance subscription. In particular, the positive relationship observed between fixed and mobile broadband subscriptions indicates that goods are complements at this early stage of network evolution. More generally, the results suggest that NRAs may improve welfare by encouraging both fixed and mobile broadband network diffusions.

- Currently, the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector is a vigorous engine of economic growth. While the penetration rate, investment and development of technology have increased considerably, the gap between people in society regarding access, use and benefit from ICT is increasing. In particular, there is unequal access to ICT even though the sector is rapidly diffusing. The present study examines determinants of this digital divide in ASEAN countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao, Philippines, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam). To explain the evolution of the ASEAN digital divide, the study focuses on potential causes which are the GDP per capita, the urban proportion of the population, the competition level and the independent regulator. Statistically, the first three of these factors explain the divide in the region concerned while the role of independent regulator is not statistically significant suggesting the need for the more effective role of regulator in conducting the market.

Private costs of delayed privatization of TOT Public Company Limited

- The purpose of this paper is to examine the private costs of delaying privatization of TOT Public Company Limited, a state-owned enterprise telephony carrier. To address the private costs of a delay in terms of privatization, a counterfactual forecasting model has been constructed for the years 2007-2012. The starting year of the evaluation is 2006, as this year was the deadline for privatization under the World Trade Organization (WTO) agreement. The forecasting model uses the traditional investment approach as well as scenario analyses. The traditional investment approach and sensitivity analyses provide similar results. Both show that the benefit of delaying the privatization process could be higher than if the WTO-agreed time process for TOT privatization were followed, as the growth of revenue sharing and from concessionaires would be higher than if TOT were privatized. There are no benefits in the long run, however, as the growth rate of revenue in the base case is lower than that in the privatization case, leading to a reduction in the present value of the base case over time: hence, the longer the delay in privatization, the slower the firm growth.

- The mobile broadband (MBB) in Swedish market has become a more attractive opportunity for service providers, with growing demand for ubiquitous broadband connectivity after the mobile operators got 3G license in 2000. MBB seems to have more advantage compare to Fixed broadband (FBB) in term of mobility, compatibility and quality of service. This paper aims to explore the current broadband situation in Swedish market, in particular whether the mobile broadband is a complementary or substitute by using descriptive analysis. The data is collected from the Post- och telestyrelsen (PTS) Survey and the secondary data from PTS during 2002-2009. The findings indicate that the MBB and FBB subscribers remain growing, but the issue of complementary and substitution between MBB and FBB cannot be given an answer at this stage. The crucial problem of comparing MBB and FBB is the different units of measurement. Also, the potential of avoiding regulation by service providers is discussed since the market participants in FBB and MBB services are the same players. The rapid growth of MBB together with a lower degree of regulation in mobile services may attract the market player to put their effort more in MBB market. Moreover, the gap between broadband infrastructure coverage and the usage of this service is huge. Thus, the inefficiency of BB infrastructure utilization becomes another issue that NRAs could consider.

- The Real Estate Industry from a Gender Perspective is a study about the real estate industry in Sweden. The real estate industry, an industry dominated by men, is facing at least two major challenges in the future; there is a generational shift and an educational shift in the industry. The industry has to be able to attract both women and men in the future. In this study my overall aim is to create understanding of the real estate industry, from a gender perspective, and to do so I will create understanding how the gender structure is created in the industry, and why it is constituted as it is. I use the theoretical approach of doing gender, where the assumption is that gender is created in interaction and it varies in time and place. My empirical material is commercial real estate companies and housing companies in Sweden. I initially mapped annual reports to see how the number of women and men was constituted in the companies and in different positions in the years of 2001 and 2008. I used the information from the mapping for my respondents to react upon, interviews was made with younger graduate women and men, and women working as CEO´s. There is a vertical and horizontal division between women and men in the organizations, men are to a greater extent CEO´s and more often in technical positions, women are more often in the supporting positions. The position of the real estate manager is a key position to do career in the industry and is symbolized as a masculine position. What I found was that there is “something going on” about the gender structure in the industry, but slowly. There are the same proportion of women and men in the industry in 2001 as it is in 2008, both in the commercial real estate companies and housing companies. There are more women working as CEO´s and in the management boards in the housing companies than in the commercial real estate companies. Different organizational gendered processes create the gender structure, that form the divisions, as symbols and images, interaction and identity, these processes try to answer how the gender structure is created in the industry. I found that the hegemonic engineering masculinity and the homosocial enactment made by men is part of the answer why it is created as it is.
