  • Growth in international new ventures : facilitating and redundant components beyond start-up
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Entrepreneurial Venturing. - Olney, Bucks : InderScience Publishers. - 1742-5360 .- 1742-5379. ; 7:2, s. 103-127
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The purpose of the paper is to identify facilitating and redundant components of core competence development during the growth of international new ventures (INVs). Through a longitudinal empirical study comparing three cases based on a large number of interviews, we describe how individual competences essential for the start-up firm (entrepreneurial, market and network) over three phases (small, youth and mature) eventually become redundant or transform into institutionalised routines. An INV built on technology competence needs to combine with market competences, preferably in parallel, for ideal market development. To expand further, the entrepreneurial competence ultimately should be reduced or omitted. To boost expansion, explicate visions and policies should be added to maintain the entrepreneurial spirit and legacy, and to guide employees. Copyright ©2015 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

  • Om pedagogiskt kvalitetsarbete i högre utbildning – vägen framåt
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Högskolepedagogisk debatt. - Kristianstad : Kristianstad University Press. - 2000-9216. ; :1, s. 55-74
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract

    • Higher education (HE) today is a diversified area which has grown expansively over the last two decades in response to a rapidly changing educational and political climate (e.g., Englund, 2018). In this age of complexity, development and change are omni present and intrinsic parts of the university teacher’s practice, from the development of the teachers’ individual practice at microlevel, to the collaborative development of scholarly practice at the meso-level of the department, and to the strategic institutional approach at macro-level, which links to employment and promotion frameworks and the recognition of teaching quality (Bolander Laksov & Scheja, 2020). As changing demands has placed focus on learning and teaching, higher education in Sweden has followed the European development from quality assurance towards quality enhancement (e.g., Pelik, 2016; Nygren & Sjöberg, 2022). The universities are now responsible for developing their own quality assurance systems and more emphasis has been placed on ownership and the possibilities of influencing the process (Swedish Higher Education Authority), which has grownmore complex. Through their professional teaching work, academic teachers are expected to strengthen a pedagogical "culture of quality" at the higher education institution (e.g., Elken &Stensaker, 2018).What we are witnessing is a more mature quality assurance work which is characterized by increased trust in the universities them selves and the ways in which they choose to organize theirquality work. But we are also witnessing the heightened complexity of academic development where academic developers has become involved in work on all three levels (micro, meso, macro), for example, appointment procedures, career structures and promotion criteria. Academic developers have become central to the implementation of these strategies, which has greatly extended the range of their professional activities. This development goes hand in handwith the shift in focus from quality assurance to quality enhancement. By allowing the universities to develop their own quality assurance systems, the new quality assurance system signals a heightened awareness of the importance of ownership and to affect the process, which relates to national governance strategies of teaching and learning. As the changing educational and political demands on higher education have deeply affected the professional activities of the academic developer and the academic teacher, this article addresses the changes and challenges faced. The present paper will present the results of a study of Swedish academic development units planned to be conducted in early 2023 and which focus on the areas of responsibilities and 29 everyday practice of academic developers today. In the paper, we will discuss the implications for teachers and academic developers in this diversified context. Our aim is also to contributewith further knowledge and understanding of structural and organisational prerequisites for academic development in higher education.

  • Relationships between physical activity and perceived qualities of life in old age. Results of the SNAC-study
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Aging & Mental Health. - Abingdon : Informa UK Limited. - 1360-7863 .- 1364-6915. ; 13:1, s. 1-8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objectives: the aim of the present study was to investigate the relationships of different types Quality of life to strenuous and light physical activity in old age. Methods: The Swedish SNAC-Blekinge baseline database, consisting of data on 585 men and 817 women 60 to 96 years of age, was utilized. The independent variables were light and strenuous physical activity. Four dependent variables concerned with various quality of life components were employed (well-being, engagement, emotional support and social anchorage). Age, gender, functional ability and co-morbidity were included as possible confounders. Non-parametric bivariate and multivariate statistical tests were performed. Results: Correlations suggested there to generally be a positive relationship between physical activity and quality of life. Multivariate logistic regression analyses controlling for possible confounders showed light physical activity to increase the odds of experiencing well-being, engagement and social anchorage, whereas strenuous physical activity increased the odds of experiencing engagement and emotional support. Thus, light physical activity and strenuous physical activity differed in their relation to quality of life generally. Conclusions: The results indicate that physical activity has a salutogenic effect by enhancing the quality of life and it can be assumed to be connected to quality of life by generating pleasure and relaxation.

  • The Recovery Process in Major Depression : an Analysis Employing Meleis´Transition Framework for Deeper Understanding as a Foundation for Nursing Interventions.
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Advances in Nursing Science. - Philadelphia, USA : Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. - 0161-9268 .- 1550-5014. ; 29:3, s. 245-259
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The number of persons with mental illness is increasing globally; despite this fact, nursing research on research-based interventions to prevent or minimize illness and increase quality of life is sparse. The purpose of this secondary analysis of men and women recovering from major depression (N=25) was to gain a deeper understanding of the concept of transition in the recovery process associated with major depression as well as to develop and suggest nursing interventions that support the recovery process. The transition framework was useful, as it was describing the transition process as fluid, going back and forth, which was confirmed by the respondents´statements. Transition planning is a feasible way of supporting both the recovery process and health promotion, thus laying the foundation for a good quality of life.

  • ADC of Sweden (Handelsbolag) – Gjuteribolaget i Bredaryd AB
  • 2004
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Abstract: As a consequence of the stagnation in the telecom industry at the start of the new millennium many subcontractors found themselves in deep crisis. Numerous Swedish die casting corporations which had focused their production on telecom related products, suffered a severe blow after the mere collapse of this industry. Several firms were declared bankrupt, others were gravely minimized. In the central parts of Sweden, three die casting companies which were located geographically close to each other (Metallteknik Produktion AB in Kulltorp, Gjuteribolaget in Bredaryd AB and Värnamo Pressgjuteri AB) started a co-operation in order to try to overcome the down turn in the market. The companies later merged and became “ADC of Sweden” (“As-sociated Die Casters of Sweden”), targeting a new demanding international clientele. The new corporation has a joined marketing plan and parts of their operations seem to be working well. At the same time these former ri-vals, which are now united in a new organisation, have encountered a series of problems which may be related to the fact that they were traditional fam-ily firms that used to operate independently.

  • Berglunds Mekaniska AB
  • 2004
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Abstract: Being a small company within the metal industry, Berglunds Mekaniska AB, located in Löddeköpinge/South Sweden, faces a lot of the typical problems of the branch. The metal industry is a low tech segment. The problems become particularly clear in smaller companies. Many of these companies lack even a clear vision of the firm’s future. Few have developed a strategy. An immediate consequence is that these companies are more vul-nerable to change in demand as they find themselves at the mercy of a small local market. The mechanical industry has traditionally been considered to be con-servative. With increased competition the acquisition of new knowledge has become a necessity. Smaller companies like Berglunds are increasingly de-pending upon outside help for their survival. With the case of Berglunds, an external business consultant has showed how both administration and lead-ership have been run ineffectively. These problems are to be improved suc-cessively by continuously coaching the CEO/owner and the staff. The coach-ing process is planned to be maintained for a longer period of time.

  • Boosting Innovation and Knowledge through Delocalization : Market Intelligence at Trade Shows
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Problems & Perspectives in Management. - Sumy, Ukraine : Sumy State University and "Business Perspectives" Publishing Company. - 1727-7051 .- 1810-5467. ; 8:3, s. 200-208
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Trade shows have consistently been neglected in marketing research, especially the gathering of market information, what is studied under Market Intelligence and directly related to a company’s Knowledge and Innovation. A major reason is that the marketing discipline traditionally has had a strong focus on customers instead of competitors and influencers. In this article we show how the field of Competitive Intelligence is a useful part of the company’s Integrated Marketing Communications. Based on a qualitative method encompassing a case study and exploratory research we followed, coached and traveled with two different groups of companies to major International Trade shows. Based on the information gathered a division into three areas of Intelligence was useful. These were intelligence about products, the booths and the behavior in the booths. For each group a number of Key Intelligence Topics and a set of specific research methods were identified which can make the Market Intelligence process more efficient. We explain why Exhibits or trade shows have much in common with Event Marketing and could be considered a part of the latter.

  • Glimakra Akvamatik AB
  • 2004
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Abstract: Office furniture company Glimakra Akvamatik AB, with its base in Glimåkra/Southwest Sweden, underwent several steps of technical improve-ment in order to maintain its competitive position in the Swed-ish/Scandinavian market. The furniture branch was hit by a sat-ration of the market in the beginning of this decade. This change was mainly due to and ran parallel with the drastic decline of the IT-market. Glimakra’s overall strategy has been continuous investment in new technologies followed by marketing research: Primarily investing in re-search of sound absorption, the administrative board decided to intensify their marketing activities by employing academic assistance in order to pro-duce an objective documentation of the effects of their screen systems. Throughout the tests specific prerequisites were applied in order to copy an authentic office situation. When companies start to invest more in their busi-nesses again Glimakra hopes to regain a considerable part of their market for office furniture in Scandinavia.

  • How Application Integration, Security Issues and Pricing Strategies in Business Intelligence Shape Vendor Differentiation
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: ECIS 2009. - Stockholm : ECIS. ; , s. 252-260
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper is investigating, through a mixed-method research combining interviews and an online survey, how BI vendors differentiate themselves when it comes to application integration, security issues and pricing strategies. The conclusion is that BI vendors differentiated themselves mainly by having individual definitions of what BI is. Buyers should therefore compare vendors through the vendor’s definition of Business Intelligence. Security issues were mainly user centric and pricing strategies implied that vendors approach buyers in a similar way where they offered standardized software bundles that could require some degree of customization in order for the buyer to derive the maximum benefit from the applications. It can be deduced from the obtained results that the most competitive BI vendors are acting more homogenous towards buyers when they offer their products and handle customers, compared to niche BI vendors.
