  • Embodied aesthetic movements during mealtime : a provocative method for design innovation of culinary utensils
  • 2011
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In 2010, the project MER was funded be The Knowledge (KK) foundation. Lars Eriksson, associate professor in applied aestetics and creative events at Grythytte Academy Örebro University, initiated the project MER which focuses on the way people move and interact in the environment around the meal. This project has conducted a number of studies about the meeting between utensils, food and the guest in motion, creating the culinary experience. The poster presents a summary of a provocative method applied in all of the different studies.

  • Earthy textiles. Experiences from a joint teaching encounter between textile design and architecture
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Cumulus REDO Conference Proceedings Design School Kolding 30 May - 2 June 2017. - 9788793416154 ; , s. 236-251
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents experiences from a two-day teaching workshop where first year students in architecture meet with first year students in textile design for an assignment on building structures with textile, soil and plants designing for indoor gardening with the aim of inspiring for more sustainable lifestyles. The background is a research project on textile architecture with the objective of exploring this new field and to establish a platform for long-term collaboration between the disciplines of architecture and textile design. The paper addresses pedagogical challenges in the meeting between first-years students of different disciplines and traditions, but also in the meeting between research and undergraduate teaching. The students produced creative results but had difficulties in exploring the full complexity of the task. An evaluative discussion is based on observations, photo documentation, notes during group discussions, follow-up questionnaires among the students and reflections among involved researchers.

  • NEUTRAL GREY – AN ABSTRACTION?
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 11th Congress of the International Colour Association, AIC 2009. - Sydney : The Colour Society of Australia, Inc. September 2009, Sydney, Australia.. - 1877040 76 2 ; , s. 1-4
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents part of the research project Greyness and spatial experience. Its main objective is to discuss the concept of neutral grey and to investigate the preconditions for perceiving neutral grey colours in different situations. Neutral grey is defined as having similarity only to black and white, not to the chromatic elementary colours. Greyish colour samples have been observed with different backgrounds and in different light. One of these series is presented in detail in the paper, the conclusions from others are considered in the discussion, together with relevant literature. Greyish colours are seldom perceived as neutral, but rather tend to get a perceived hue, which depends on the observation situation. Inherent neutral grey colours are not found in nature. In production of materials and artefacts no tolerance level can assure a total lack of hue. In conclusion we suggest that neutral grey should be considered as an abstraction, its unique but in practice unobtainable quality lying in its absolute lack of hue and chromaticness.

    • OPTIMA is a pilot study attempting to simultaneously involve all visual aspects of the room, with an analysis starting from the totality instead of dividing it into different parameters. Its primary aim is to develop and test methods for this, combining a scientific approach and experience based practices of art and design

  • SYN-TES : human colour and light synthesis. Towards a coherent field of knowledge
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Colour and light in architecture. - Verona : Knemesi. - 9788896370049 ; , s. 235-240
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The research project SYN-TES aims at contributing to a theoretical development transforming the field of colour and light into a coherent field of research. This includes the identification of important problems and the development of theoretical and methodological tools for the trans-disiplinary understanding necessary to solving them. Special emphasis is put on the spatial interaction of colour and light in architecture. The work has the form of seminars/workshops where colour and light specialists from different academic disciplines (six Nordic universities) and companies (light sources, colorimetric standards, window glass) examine different aspects of the problem complex. Sub-projects deal with the epistemology and concepts of colour and light, with methods for analysing colour and light in existing architectural spaces and with the relationship between energy and light quality.

  • Exploring the “Non-Perfect” Characteristics of Materials
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Symposium Making Effect at ArkDes in Stockholm 14-16 September 2017.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Today in Swedish building production, materials are often used to give the impression of plain and perfect surfaces and volumes. For several contemporary Japanese architects, among others Kengo Kuma and Toyo Ito, the building materials play a role in the stage-setting of incomplete and unexpected experiences and perceptions that instead evoke wonder. In this way, the materials acquire additional meanings as intermediary links, to bridge between human being, building and landscape, preventing buildings from being experienced merely as objects. This 2012 pilot project was developed into a new research project “Urban Materiality: Towards New Collaborations in Textile and Architectural Design”, funded by the Swedish Research Council (VR), Artistic Research. In that project, the formation of “textile disturbances” creates latitude for new processes of renewal in urban environments, where aesthetic ideals of perfection often result in current materials and building envelopes today being replaced prematurely with inferior materials in existing environments.
