  • Genres in Action: Negotiating Genres in Practice
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the Thirty-second Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS). - Los Alamitos, Calif. : IEEE Computer Society. - 0769500013 ; 5
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we present the initial findings of a genre based case study at a large Swedish company, with a record of early use of internal email (1982). The design of the particular email system was closely mapped to the organizational hierarchy. One of our informants kept one week of incoming email messages. We then asked questions about each message and how it related to the work of the informant, and to the organization. Based on the messages and the interviews we clustered the messages in different genres. Most literature of genres of organizational communication has focused on the genres themselves, e.g. email messages constituting different instances of genres. We found however that many messages, rather than being instances of genres, were part of informal conversations. In these conversations, however, it was common to discuss and negotiate which genres where appropriate to use in different situations.

  • Surveillance of the interaction parameter of the Ising model
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Communications in Statistics, Theory and Methods. - New York : Taylor & Francis. - 0361-0926 .- 1532-415X. ; 28:12, s. 3009-3027
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Surveillance to detect changes of spatial patterns is of interest in many areas such as environmental control and regional analysis. Here the interaction parameter of the Ising model, is considered. A minimal sufficient statistic and its asymptotic distribution are used. It is demonstrated that the convergence to normal distribution is rapid. The main result is that when the lattice is large, all approximations are better in several respects. It is shown that, for large lattice sizes, earlier results on surveillance of a normally distributed random variable can be used in cases of most interest. The expected delay of alarm at a fixed level of false alarm probability is examined for some examples.

  • Evaluation of a Biopsychosocial Rehabilitation Programme in Primary Healthcare for Chronic Pain Patients
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Occupational Therapy. - London : Taylor & Francis. - 1103-8128 .- 1651-2014. ; 6, s. 157-165
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The responsibility of primary healthcare for treatment and rehabilitation of chronic pain patients has increased in the last decade. Experiences of multidisciplinary, behavioural treatments in pain clinics have demonstrated positive effects. The aim of the study was to evaluate a biopsychosocial rehabilitation programme in primary healthcare for chronic pain patients. The study included 70 chronic pain patients, who participated in an intervention based on ego-strengthening psychotherapy, led by an occupational therapist and a physiotherapist. The study was performed by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and a questionnaire as well as statistically analysed. The results showed increased general well-being (p < 0.01) and ability of pain management (p < 0.001) together with decreased level of perceived complaints (p < 0.001). The intervention was also associated with positive changes in personality, physical and cognitive factors. The results suggest that the biopsychosocial rehabilitation programme is useful in primary healthcare. Further studies should be carried out into the effects of such a rehabilitation programme in controlled randomized designs
