  • Relationships between physical activity and perceived qualities of life in old age. Results of the SNAC-study
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Aging & Mental Health. - Abingdon : Informa UK Limited. - 1360-7863 .- 1364-6915. ; 13:1, s. 1-8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objectives: the aim of the present study was to investigate the relationships of different types Quality of life to strenuous and light physical activity in old age. Methods: The Swedish SNAC-Blekinge baseline database, consisting of data on 585 men and 817 women 60 to 96 years of age, was utilized. The independent variables were light and strenuous physical activity. Four dependent variables concerned with various quality of life components were employed (well-being, engagement, emotional support and social anchorage). Age, gender, functional ability and co-morbidity were included as possible confounders. Non-parametric bivariate and multivariate statistical tests were performed. Results: Correlations suggested there to generally be a positive relationship between physical activity and quality of life. Multivariate logistic regression analyses controlling for possible confounders showed light physical activity to increase the odds of experiencing well-being, engagement and social anchorage, whereas strenuous physical activity increased the odds of experiencing engagement and emotional support. Thus, light physical activity and strenuous physical activity differed in their relation to quality of life generally. Conclusions: The results indicate that physical activity has a salutogenic effect by enhancing the quality of life and it can be assumed to be connected to quality of life by generating pleasure and relaxation.

  • How Application Integration, Security Issues and Pricing Strategies in Business Intelligence Shape Vendor Differentiation
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: ECIS 2009. - Stockholm : ECIS. ; , s. 252-260
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper is investigating, through a mixed-method research combining interviews and an online survey, how BI vendors differentiate themselves when it comes to application integration, security issues and pricing strategies. The conclusion is that BI vendors differentiated themselves mainly by having individual definitions of what BI is. Buyers should therefore compare vendors through the vendor’s definition of Business Intelligence. Security issues were mainly user centric and pricing strategies implied that vendors approach buyers in a similar way where they offered standardized software bundles that could require some degree of customization in order for the buyer to derive the maximum benefit from the applications. It can be deduced from the obtained results that the most competitive BI vendors are acting more homogenous towards buyers when they offer their products and handle customers, compared to niche BI vendors.

  • Life style welfare: How the New Class has transformed the Scandinavian Welfare State
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Telos. - New York, NY : Telos Press Ltd.. - 0090-6514 .- 1940-459X. ; 2009:148, s. 73-85
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Three hypotheses are presented in this article, each supported by observations and theory. The first is that party distinctions in Scandinavian politics have ceased to be vehicles for coherent ideas related to political ideologies, but that parties instead have become machines to stay in power and keep supporters employed. The second is that the tradition among political parties in Scandinavia and especially in Sweden for accepting federalist measures as a response to central state inefficiencies has been checked by the development of the welfare state. It can only regain momentum through external pressure. The third is that the Scandinavia welfare state model has shifted from one of providing support to the needy to a party guaranteeing the middle class a certain life-style.

  • Macklean som ekonom
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Svaneholms Årsbok. - Skurup : Svaneholm Andelsförening. ; , s. 37-48, s. 37-48

  • Market Intelligence : Building Strategic Insight
  • 2009
  • Bok (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Market Intelligence provides managers with helpful concepts, tools and ideas on market intelligence and analysis. Additionally, it gives the reader some of the analytical tools used to analyze both micro and macro factors in the organization’s environment to better predict future outcomes and help decision making. The field of competitive intelligence is studied by a diverse research community. Contributions are made to aid states on a national, regional and local level (Public Intelligence), the military (Military Intelligence), non-profit organizations (NPO Intelligence) and private companies (Private Intelligence). However, these contributions are mostly done in isolation, even though all these fields of study have much in common. The authors build their insight on these various schools as well as practical applications and provide the essential insights to aid management thinking.

  • "Insufficient Evidence of Effectiveness" Is Not "Evidence of No Effectiveness:" Evaluating Computer-Based Education for Patients with Severe Mental Illness
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: WORLDVIEWS ON EVIDENCE-BASED NURSING. - Hoboken, USA : Wiley-Blackwell. - 1545-102X .- 1741-6787. ; 6:4, s. 190-199
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • ABSTRACT Rationale: This article reports on commissioned research funded by the Swedish Council of Technology Assessment in Health Care (SBU) and the Swedish Nursing Society (SSF). The objective was to review computer-based education programs. However, as the review produced insufficient evidence of effectiveness, the publication was withheld due to a previous incident where such evidence was misunderstood by Swedish policy and health care decision makers. Aims: This article highlights the concept of evidence with regard to the consequences of insufficient evidence of effectiveness being mistaken for evidence of no effectiveness. The aim is also to present a systematic review evaluating a computer-based education program for patients suffering from severe mental illness. Methods: Systematic database searches in Medline, CINAHL, PsycINFO and the Cochrane Library identified a total of 131 potentially relevant references. Thereafter, 27 references were retrieved as full-text documents, of which 5 were finally included and co-reviewed by two independent researchers. Findings: The review found no decisive evidence of effectiveness regarding computer-based education programs designed to assist persons suffering from severe mental illness. Implications for Practice and Policy: Failing to see the difference between insufficient evidence and evidence of no effectiveness may have unexpected consequences. As a result, practice may be misguided and treatments withheld, which at worse may have harmful consequences for patients. In the end, it is of utmost importance that researchers do good quality research by ensuring statistical power and quality of outcome measurement. For example, this review of computer-based education programs could have revealed effective ways of dealing with severe mental illness if the studies included had been conducted using more sophisticated designs.
