  • Efficient Code Generation from the High-level Domain-specific Language Feldspar for DSPs
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: ODES-8: 8th Workshop on Optimizations for DSP and Embedded Systems, workshop associated with IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Code Generation and Optimization (CGO).
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Software for digital signal processors (DSPs) is traditionally highly hardware-dependent and hence porting it to new processors usually requires significant design effort. In this paper we present Feldspar (Functional Embedded Language for DSP and Parallelism), an embedded, high-level, domain-specific language for DSP algorithm design and the compilation techniques we developed for generating C code from specifications written in Feldspar. While Feldspar allows description of algorithms on specification level, we show that with the right set of abstractions and transformations this high level, functional specification can be transformed into C code that is comparable or better than reference, hand-crafted C language implementations. The Feldspar compiler is highly modular and plugin-based, hence future hardware-specific plugins will enable automatic generation of efficient, hardware-specific code. This approach enables the encapsulation of knowledge of hardware completely in the compiler and thus allows description of algorithms in completely hardware-independent, portable manner.

  • Simultaneous X-ray absorption and two-photon LIF for imaging the spray formation region
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: ILASS–Europe 2019, Proceedings of the 29th Conference on Liquid Atomization and Spray Systems, 2-4 September 2019, Paris, France.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Imaging the spray formation region of atomizing sprays is particularly challenging due to the presence of a variety of irregular liquid structures such as ligaments, liquid blobs, droplets, liquid sheets and a possible liquid core. The number and concentration of those liquid bodies dictate the presence of liquid/air interfaces, which are responsible to undesired scattering effects. The resulting images are blurred, ultimately concealing the real structure of the spray formation region. Due to both, scattering effects and the presence of highly irregular 3D liquid structures, the only reliable measurement of liquid mass in the spray formation region is obtained using X-ray radiography. The generation of collimated X-rays pulsed has been done, in the past, by means of a synchrotron, thus limiting the number of studies that can be performed. In parallel to the use of X-rays, progresses in advanced laser imaging techniques for suppressing multiple scattering issues have been particularly important over the past decade. A very recent solution consists in using 2-photon excitation LIF laser sheet imaging. In this paper, we report for the first time the possibility of simultaneously imaging an atomizing spray using X-ray absorption and 2-photon LIF planar imaging, where the simultaneous single-shot recordings are made over a ~20mmx20mm viewed area. The spray is generated from a commercial fuel port injection system from which, water was injected. The unique illumination/detection scheme proposed here was made possible thanks to the use of X-rays emitted from a laser plasma accelerator (Betatron radiation). For this experiment, we use the High Intensity Laser system at Lund University that provides on target 800mJ, 38fs laser pulses. The emitted X-ray radiation is ranging from 1 to 10keV and peaking at ~2keV. It propagates outside of the vacuum chamber where an X-ray camera records the shadow of the liquid jet. In addition to that, a fraction of the laser pulse ~10mJ is directed on the liquid jet and focuses with a cylindrical lens where it induces fluorescence from a 2-photon excitation process in a dye -here, fluorescein- added to the liquid. The 2p-LIF images provide details on the size and shape of the liquid structures, optically sectioned by the light sheet, while the integrated liquid mass is extracted from the X-ray radiography. This is making the two imaging techniques highly complementary for the characterization of spray systems as well as for further understanding the physics related to liquid atomization.

  • Medreflektioner inom lärarutbildningens examensarbete
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Kongresrapport til den 10. nordiske læreruddannelseskongres. - Reykjavik : School of Education, University of Iceland. - 9789979985167
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
Vad slags reflektioner förmedlas i medreflektörernas texter?; 2. Vilka likheter och skillnader finns mellan medreflektörernas kommentarer och de akademiska bedömningarna?; 3. Ger medreflektörernas verksamhet bidrag till kompetensutveckling och skolutveckling?

  • Deep Eutectic Solvent Treatment to Low-Energy TMP to Produce Fibers for Papermaking
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: IMPC 2018. - Trondheim, Norway.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this research was to gain a better understanding on whether a novel process based on low-energy thermo-mechanical pulp (TMP) process followed by a chemical treatment with deep eutectic solvents (DESs) could produce fibers suitable for papermaking. In full scale production, these fibers could be produced at a much lower capital and operational costs, especially when utilizing existing TMP plants which are under the threat to be shut down or have already been shut down due to a decreasing demand for newsprint and other wood-containing papers. The efficiency of several DES treatments under various temperatures and times were evaluated by carrying out experiments in standard Teflon-lined autoclaves. A few tests were also performed in a unique nonstandard flow extractor. Pulp samples were characterized for their cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin contents. Moreover, tensile index was measured both before and after pulp refining. Depending on the solvent, the response of mechanical pulp varied, especially in terms of hemicellulose dissolution. Lactic acid, oxalic acid and urea, all in combination with choline chloride ([Ch]Cl) as the hydrogen bond acceptor, dissolved about 50% of the lignin of the low-energy TMP fibers under the tested conditions. The mixture of malic acid and [Ch]Cl was less effective in lignin dissolution. The mixture of urea and [Ch]Cl exhibited only a minor loss in hemicellulose content, when compared to the other tested DESs. Although 50% of the lignin was dissolved with minor loss in hemicellulose no improvement in tensile strength was observed, as it was rather the opposite. Another benefit with the mixture of urea and [Ch]Cl was that this DES did not appear to be corrosive to stainless steel. All other tested DESs—which were also quite acidic—were observed to be corrosive. Moreover, this DES-related corrosion was found to intensify at elevated temperatures. When chips were used as starting material with otherwise the same conditions almost no lignin was dissolved. This suggests that low-energy mechanical pulp is likely to be a good starting material for extracting lignin using DESs.

  • Coherentism as a foundation for ethical dialog and evaluation in school : value communication, assessment and mediation
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Educating for complex thinking through philosophical inquiry. Models, advances, and proposals for the new millennium.. - Padova : Liguori. - 9788820757113 ; , s. 197-208
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we are mainly concerned with coherentism as an approach to ethical dialog in school. We have two different but connected aims with the paper. The first aim is to say something about general philosophical questions relating to coherentism as a theory in metaethics, and especially in relation to value education; the second aim is to explore some possible implications of coherentism as a method in studying the enterprise of discussing ethical issues and questions with children as well as the study of the actual ethical discussion in school. Furthermore, we evaluate the connection between a coherentistic approach to justification and the methodological parts of a Philosophy with Children, or Community of Inquiry, approach to ethics in school. Related to this, we scrutinize what implications this has for evaluating ethical learning within Philosophy with Children, or Community of Inquiry, as well as implications for evaluation of the Philosophy with Children, or Community of Inquiry, approaches as methods for dealing with ethical matters in school.
