- We report on one- and two-neutron transfer reactions to study the single-particle properties of nuclei at the border of the "island of inversion". The (d,p)- and (t,p)-reactions in inverse kinematics on the neutron-rich isotope Mg-30, delivered as radioactive beam by the REX-ISOLDE facility, have been investigated. The outgoing protons have been detected and identified by a newly built array of Si detectors. The gamma-decay of excited states has been detected in coincidence by the MINIBALL array. First results for Mg-31 and from the search for the second, spherical, 0(+) state in Mg-32 are presented.

Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
- The nuclei Ca-47 and Ti-55 were populated in one-neutron knock-out reactions at relativistic energies. Momentum distributions of the residual nuclei as well as gamma-ray spectra were measured at the GSI fragment separator (FRS). Preliminary results of the ongoing analysis including cross sections and spin/parity assignments are presented.

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- Results are presented from a one-neutron knockout reaction at relativistic energies on 56Ti using the GSI FRS as a two-stage magnetic spectrometer and the Miniball array for gamma-ray detection. Inclusive and exclusive longitudinal momentum distributions and cross-sections were measured enabling the determination of the orbital angular momentum of the populated states. First-time observation of the 955(6) keV -hole state in 55Ti is reported. The measured data for the first time proves that the ground state of 55Ti is a 1/2- state, in agreement with shell-model calculations using the GXPF1A interaction that predict a sizable N=34 gap in 54Ca.

Coulomb breakup of 17Ne from the viewpoint of nuclear astrophysics

Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
- By the Coulomb breakup of 17Ne, the time-reversed reaction 15O(2p,γ)17Ne has been studied. This reaction might play an important role in the rp process, as a break-out reaction of the hot CNO cycle. The secondary 17Ne ion beam with an energy of 500 MeV/nucleon has been dissociated in a Pb target. The reaction products have been detected with the LAND-R3B experimental setup at GSI. The preliminary differential and integral Coulomb dissociation cross section sCoul has been determined, which then will be converted into a photo-absorption cross section sphoto, and a two-proton radiative capture cross section σcap. Additionally, information about the structure of the 17Ne, a potential two-proton halo nucleus, will be received. The analysis is in progress. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike Licence.

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- Dissociation of 227 MeV/u He-8 in a carbon target has been studied in kinematically complete experiments. The data include the relative energy spectrum, angular distributions in the neutron knock-out channel (He-6 + n) as well as diffractive dissociation and inelastic scattering into the (He-6 + 2n) channel. The data are compared with corresponding results from the well-known halo nucleus He-6. In both cases it is found that neutron knock-out is the: dominating reaction channel. The relative energy spectrum (He-6 + n) shows a structure, which is interpreted as being due to the I-pi = 3/2(-) resonance in the He-7 ground state with about equal contribution from its I-pi = 1/2(-) spin-orbit partner. The He-7 resonance shows a spin alignment similar to that observed in He-5, but with a smaller anisotropy indicating that the structure of the He-8 ground state is more complicated than that of He-6. The data in the (He-6 + 2n) channel were used to identify resonances in the excitation energy spectrum of He-8. If the spectrum is interpreted as two overlapping resonances, the spin-parity assignment for these is found to be 2(+) and 1(-), respectively.

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- Experimental data from the decay of Li-11 show for the first time the presence of beta-delayed deuterons with a branching ratio larger than 10(-4). To distinguish between beta d and beta t events the decays of the daughter nuclei Li-9 and Li-8 were identified in the energy and decay time spectra. Furthermore, a time correlation analysis between the beta d events and the subsequent daughter decays was performed.

Super-strong beta-decay of Li-11 into Be-11* (18 MeV) state: A probe for halo p-wave component?
- 1997

Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - 0375-9474. ; 616:1-2, s. C201-C207

Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
- An experimental study of beta-delayed charged particles (H, He, Be), neutrons and gamma-rays that follow the Li-11 beta-decay, clearly indicates a beta-feeding to an exited state at 18.1 MeV in Be-11 with a large Gamow-Teller strength, B-GT greater than or equal to 1.0. The large strength of this beta-transition implies a broad overlap of the Be-11* state at 18.1 MeV and the ground state of Li-11. The deduced width of this resonance is similar or equal to 1 MeV. A strong suppression of the branch from 18.1 MeV state into the Be-10+n channel is observed. This branch, with the largest decay energy, has a partial width less than 1% of the total width. A centrifugal barrier consideration fails to explain this effect. A possible consequence of the observed effect for the Li-11 structure is that the admixture of (p(1/2))(2) configuration in Li-11 might be small.

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- Results are presented from a one-neutron knockout experiment at relativistic energies of approximate to 420 A MeV on Sc51-55 using the GSI Fragment Separator as a two-stage magnetic spectrometer and the Miniball array for gamma-ray detection. Inclusive longitudinal momentum distributions and cross-sections were measured enabling the determination of the contributions corresponding to knockout from the nu p(1/2), nu p(3/2), (L = 1) and nu f(7/2), nu f(5/2) (L = 3) neutron orbitals. The observed L = 1 and L = 3 contributions are compared with theoretical cross-sections using eikonal knockout theory and spectroscopic factors from shell model calculations using the GXPF1A interaction. The measured inclusive knockout cross-sections generally follow the trends expected theoretically and given by the spectroscopic strength predicted from the shell model calculations. However, the deduced L = 1 cross-sections are generally 30-40% higher while the L = 3 contributions are about a factor of two smaller than predicted. This points to a promotion of neutrons from the nu f(7/2) to the nu p(3/2) orbital indicating a weakening of the N = 28 shell gap in these nuclei. While this is not predicted for the phenomenological GXPF1A interaction such a weakening is predicted by recent calculations using realistic low-momentum interactions V-lowk obtained by evolving a chiral N3LO nucleon-nucleon potential.
