Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
- On 19 July 2009 Ingvar Kärnefelt celebrated his 65th birthday. This could have meant that we, his former students, would be celebrating him in his retirement from his position as head of the Biological Museums at Lund University. We are grateful that this is not the case, as Ingvar will carry on, probably for at least one or two more years. Instead, we celebrate Ingvar because he is the main reason for all of us having studied lichenology in Lund. This special issue of The Lichenologist is dedicated to him as a birthday tribute in honour of his long and fruitful lichenological career. The main authors of all the papers in this issue are former students of Ingvar. For several of us he has not only acted as supervisor but later also as the director of the Botanical Museum where we meet him in our daily work.

Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
- The Swedish Research School in Social Work (RSSW) was initiated in 2008, as collaboration between all Swedish universities with post-graduate education in Social Work. The intention was to assemble a broader basis for subject specific postgraduate courses, to strengthen the identity of Social Work as a postgraduate subject and to work for an international collaboration. This report describes the PhD students in social work and their experience of attending RSSW-courses. The report addresses how support, such as tutoring, affect participation in RSSW-courses and also highlights various aspects of the future, as the doctoral students’ future career paths. Results of the study reveal that tutoring situation, gender, and age, among other things, affect the participation in and experience of RSSW. The study also shows that the subject orientations and course needs of doctoral students in Social Work are broad and varying. It is further a large part of the doctoral student group who would consider a future career outside the academy, which raises the question of where the scientific knowledge in the long run end up and what that means for the development of Social Work as a subject.

Declining youth drinking : A matter of faith?

Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
- Youth drinking has declined in many high-income countries for two decades. This development is still largely unexplained. Developing evidence and extending our understanding as to the mechanisms behind these changes is imperative for advising governments and policy makers on how to support and maintain the trends. Given the international scope of the trends, comparative studies have been suggested for improving our understanding of the development. In this commentary, we explore the patterns observed across several waves of the European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs between 1999 and 2019, and how these match-up with the World Values Survey. We found that the declines in youth drinking are limited to a smaller number of countries and that in Europe these are all found in two groups from the World Values Survey, protestant Europe and English-speaking countries. If the declines in youth drinking are systematic and limited to a smaller number of countries, this challenges some of the hypothesised drivers of this development, but can also help guide future research.
