  • Bilateral TMJ Ankylosis: Total Joint Reconstruction in a Patient With Zero Mouth Opening : A Case Report
  • 2032
  • Ingår i: Craniomaxillofacial research & Innovation. ; 8:1-6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Present a case of a young patient with bilateral bony ankylosis of the TMJ with zero mouth opening treated with TMJ prosthesis.MethodsThe ankylosis was studied in detail with computed tomography (CT) and we used virtual surgical planning in the pre-operative phase to provide splints and cutting guides. The patient was treated with bilateral custom-made alloplastic TMJ prosthesis.ResultsOptimal functional improvement at the 5.5 year follow up after total joint reconstruction without any adverse effects. Mouth opening was 35 mm and the patient was free from pain. CT-images showed no signs of pathology or increased remodeling and bone formation.ConclusionAnkylosis of the TMJ in young and adult population presents unique challenges given the need to account for growth of the mandible and anatomical variations. This report supports the use of total joint reconstruction for end-stage TMJ disease.

  • Childism, Intersectionality and the Rights of the Child : The myth of a happy childhood
  • 2025
  • Bok (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This book is the first to comprehensively develop the concept of childism to understand, study and analyse age-based discrimination against children. It presents a critical theory to help comprehend intersecting prejudice against children and to examine the weak implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), and in what ways violations against children can be analysed through the intersections of racist, sexist and ableist discrimination. The book further offers scholars a new perspective when studying structural forms of discrimination and oppression against children and provides professionals with a new vocabulary on prejudice targeting children when assessing theory, policy and praxis on ‘child-friendly’ and ‘child-centred’ initiatives that overlook the need to protect children against discrimination. This book will be of key interest to scholars, students and practitioners of human rights, child and youth studies, education, prejudice studies, the United Nations and child law, and more broadly to sociology, social policy, psychology, and social work.

  • AVT and agency : Revoicing to give a voice to minoritized language communities
  • 2025
  • Ingår i: Journal of Audiovisual Translation. - 2617-9148.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • At the 10th Media for All conference, the meagre representation of minoritized languages (including sign language) in audiovisual media on streaming platforms was tackled. In this way, the very ideal of media for all was challenged. Global streaming platforms tend to adopt a ‘one size fits all’ approach in limiting their language settings to a minimum. While the users of minoritized languages often are proficient in the dominant language of their country, it is absolutely crucial that content is available in their smaller — and often endangered — languages as well. Some streaming platforms of local public service broadcasters try to accommodate this need. Still, the questions remain: to what extent do not only minoritized languages users, but also the speakers of the majority languages encounter these minoritized languages in audiovisual content, how linguistically diverse and inclusive is this content, but also: what role can audiovisual translation play here? In this article, the importance of audiovisual translation in and out of minoritized languages, with a special focus on revoicing, is discussed. The children’s content broadcast by Swedish public service broadcaster in the national minority languages and sign language is used as a case study.

  • Minority/minoritized language audiovisual translation for younger audiences
  • 2025
  • Ingår i: The Routledge handbook of translation and children’s literature and media. - London : Routledge.
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Revoicing has historically been used to translate children’s audiovisual content. Of the various audiovisual translation (AVT) modes, lip-sync dubbing completely replaces the original dialogue track with a recording of the translated dialogue lines in the target language. Off-screen narration is also used to guide children through a programme, usually in the form of voice-over that does not include traces of the source language. In addition to animated children’s programmes, live-action content targeting older children that used to be subtitled in so-called ‘subtitling countries’ is likewise often dubbed nowadays. Other than dubbing, different AVT modes can be combined within the same programme to make children’s content accessible to audiences with special needs or specific linguistic preferences. Furthermore, besides professional AVT, efforts by laypersons and language activists to provide content in minority languages are also important. In this chapter, AVT in and out of minority/minoritized languages is discussed, including aspects such as the role of language planning and the language acquisition impact on younger audiences.

  • Spatially resolved structural and chemical properties of the white layer in machined Inconel 718 super alloy
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Materials and Design. - 0264-1275. ; 239
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Inconel 718 is one type of nickel-based alloy used for a large range of applications, including gas turbines and aeroengines components. Although mechanical and thermodynamic properties of this material have been deeply studied in the past years, a method able to investigate local properties of the thin white layer formed on the alloy surface after machining remains challenging. Here, a 90 nm X-ray beam is used to probe the local strain, crystal orientation, and chemical composition of grains in the white layer. Data reveals mosaicity induced by the tool during machining. The high spatial resolution, combined with crystal lattice sensitivity, shows that the average grain size is around 30 nm throughout the white layer, while the strain is anisotropic nearest to the surface. Results provide new insights on the basic properties of the white layer in super alloys, revealing important information about the impact of finish machining which might help to explain fatigue and cracking formation on these materials during their usage phase.

  • A World Order in Transformation? : A Comparative Study of Consequences of the War and Reactions to These Changes in the Region
  • 2024
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Russia's full-scale invasion and war of aggression against Ukraine has, in addition to all the destruction, grief and terror for the people concerned, unravelled the profound instability in what has conventionally been understood as the world order. The annual publication CBEES State of the Region report focuses on Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, the Balkans, and the Baltic Sea region, where we find countries that are closest to the war. This year, we have engaged over 30 scholars to analyze how the countries in this region have been affected by the war to form a tentative understanding of the unfolding consequences of the war for the region. Understandably, the consequences of the war tie into historical and contemporary conditions that also preceded the war.The report presents a contemporary overview of the diversity of challenges the region and its countries face today, both on a macro level and on a grassroots level and gives a preliminary analysis of the implications for the region's future.

  • A TDD Distributed MIMO Testbed Using a 1-bit Radio-Over-Fiber Fronthaul Architecture
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques. - 0018-9480 .- 1557-9670. ; In Press
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present the uplink and downlink of a time-division duplex distributed multiple-input multiple-output (D-MIMO) testbed, based on a 1-bit radio-over-fiber architecture, which is low cost and scalable. The proposed architecture involves a central unit (CU) that is equipped with 1-bit digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital converters, operating at 10 GS/s. The CU is connected to multiple single-antenna remote radio heads (RRHs) via optical fibers, over which a binary radio frequency (RF) waveform is transmitted. In the uplink, a binary RF waveform is generated at the RRHs by a comparator, whose inputs are the received RF signal and a suitably designed dither signal. In the downlink, a binary RF waveform is generated at the CU via bandpass sigma-delta modulation. Our measurement results show that low error-vector magnitude (EVM) can be achieved in both the uplink and the downlink, despite 1-bit sampling at the CU. Specifically, for point-to-point over-cable transmission between a single user equipment (UE) and a CU equipped with a single RRH, we report, for a 10-MBd signal using single-carrier (SC) 16 quadratic-amplitude modulation (QAM) modulation, an EVM of 3.3% in the downlink, and of 4.5% in the uplink. We then consider a CU connected to three RRHs serving over the air two UEs, and show that, after over-the-air reciprocity calibration, a downlink zero-forcing precoder designed on the basis of uplink channel estimates at the CU achieves an EVM of 6.4% and 10.9% at UE 1 and UE 2, respectively. Finally, we investigate the ability of the proposed architecture to support orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) waveforms, and its robustness against both in-band and out-of-band interference.

  • Development of a novel solar dryer with an incorporated heat exchanger
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Solar Energy. - 0038-092X. ; 269
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study analyzes the thermal performance of an indirect-type solar dryer incorporated with a heat exchanger to recover heat from the exhaust. Data were recorded for 8 h from 9:00 to 17:00 from November to January to determine the drying rate for varying airflows from 2 l/s to 12 l/s under the weather conditions of Nepal and Bhutan. The air temperatures in multiple locations in the dryer were recorded and logged for 30-second intervals. The results indicated that incorporating a simple heat exchanger can achieve 78 % and 81 % effectiveness for the lowest tested airflow of 2.5 l/s and 2 l/s in Nepal and Bhutan. The heat transfer effectiveness increases with decreasing flow, resulting in a higher cold side outlet temperature of the heat exchanger for lower airflows. The solar air collector demonstrated efficient performance, achieving 80 % and 90 % efficiencies for the highest tested airflows of 12 l/s and 10 l/s in Nepal and Bhutan, respectively. Due to an increased heat transfer coefficient, the incoming air can effectively remove the accumulated heat from the absorber plate for higher airflows. The drying rates were observed to be the highest for 12 l/s, with a value of 85 g/(h × m2) for apples and 10 l/s, with a value of 56 g/(h × m2) for gingers in Nepal and Bhutan, respectively. From both cases, it can be concluded that the highest tested airflows provide higher air circulation for effective heat and mass transfer from the product to the surrounding air for drying.

  • A precise measurement of the Z-boson double-differential transverse momentum and rapidity distributions in the full phase space of the decay leptons with the ATLAS experiment at s=8 TeV
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. - : Springer Nature. - 1434-6044 .- 1434-6052. ; 84:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents for the first time a precise measurement of the production properties of the Z boson in the full phase space of the decay leptons. This is in contrast to the many previous precise unfolded measurements performed in the fiducial phase space of the decay leptons. The measurement is obtained from proton–proton collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment in 2012 at s=8 TeV at the LHC and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.2 fb-1. The results, based on a total of 15.3 million Z-boson decays to electron and muon pairs, extend and improve a previous measurement of the full set of angular coefficients describing Z-boson decay. The double-differential cross-section distributions in Z-boson transverse momentum pT and rapidity y are measured in the pole region, defined as 80

  • Differential cross-section measurements of the production of four charged leptons in association with two jets using the ATLAS detector
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP). - : Springer Nature. - 1126-6708 .- 1029-8479. ; 2024:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Differential cross-sections are measured for the production of four charged leptons in association with two jets. These measurements are sensitive to final states in which the jets are produced via the strong interaction as well as to the purely-electroweak vector boson scattering process. The analysis is performed using proton-proton collision data collected by ATLAS at root s = 13TeV and with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb(-1). The data are corrected for the effects of detector inefficiency and resolution and are compared to stateof-the-art Monte Carlo event generator predictions. The differential cross-sections are used to search for anomalous weak-boson self-interactions that are induced by dimension-six and dimension-eight operators in Standard Model effective field theory.

  • Electron and photon energy calibration with the ATLAS detector using LHC Run 2 data
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of Instrumentation. - : Institute of Physics. - 1748-0221. ; 19:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents the electron and photon energy calibration obtained with the ATLAS detector using 140 fb−1 of LHC proton-proton collision data recorded at √s = 13 TeV between 2015 and 2018. Methods for the measurement of electron and photon energies are outlined, along with the current knowledge of the passive material in front of the ATLAS electromagnetic calorimeter. The energy calibration steps are discussed in detail, with emphasis on the improvements introduced in this paper. The absolute energy scale is set using a large sample of Z-boson decays into electron-positron pairs, and its residual dependence on the electron energy is used for the first time to further constrain systematic uncertainties. The achieved calibration uncertainties are typically 0.05% for electrons from resonant Z-boson decays, 0.4% at ET ∼ 10 GeV, and 0.3% at ET ∼ 1 TeV; for photons at ET ∼ 60 GeV, they are 0.2% on average. This is more than twice as precise as the previous calibration. The new energy calibration is validated using J/ → ee and radiative Z-boson decays. © 2024 Institute of Physics. All rights reserved.

  • Evidence for the Higgs Boson Decay to a Z Boson and a Photon at the LHC
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114. ; 132:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The first evidence for the Higgs boson decay to a Z boson and a photon is presented, with a statistical significance of 3.4 standard deviations. The result is derived from a combined analysis of the searches performed by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations with proton-proton collision datasets collected at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) from 2015 to 2018. These correspond to integrated luminosities of around 140 fb^{-1} for each experiment, at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The measured signal yield is 2.2±0.7 times the standard model prediction, and agrees with the theoretical expectation within 1.9 standard deviations.

  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - : American Physical Society. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 132:10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • ATLAS measured the centrality dependence of the dijet yield using Formula Presented of Formula Presented data collected at Formula Presented in 2016. The event centrality, which reflects the Formula Presented impact parameter, is characterized by the total transverse energy registered in the Pb-going side of the forward calorimeter. The central-to-peripheral ratio of the scaled dijet yields, Formula Presented, is evaluated, and the results are presented as a function of variables that reflect the kinematics of the initial hard parton scattering process. The Formula Presented shows a scaling with the Bjorken Formula Presented of the parton originating from the proton, Formula Presented, while no such trend is observed as a function of Formula Presented. • Measurement of the H→ γγ and H→ ZZ∗→ 4 ℓ cross-sections in pp collisions at √s=13.6 TeV with the ATLAS detector
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. - : Institute for Ionics. - 1434-6044 .- 1434-6052. ; 84:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The inclusive Higgs boson production cross-section is measured in the di-photon and the ZZ∗→ 4 ℓ decay channels using 31.4 and 29.0 fb - 1 of pp collision data respectively, collected with the ATLAS detector at a centre-of-mass energy of s=13.6 TeV . To reduce the model dependence, the measurement in each channel is restricted to a particle-level phase space that closely matches the channel’s detector-level kinematic selection, and it is corrected for detector effects. These measured fiducial cross-sections are σfid,γγ= 76-13+14 fb, and σfid,4ℓ= 2.80±0.74 fb, in agreement with the corresponding Standard Model predictions of 67.6 ± 3.7 fb and 3.67 ± 0.19 fb. Assuming Standard Model acceptances and branching fractions for the two channels, the fiducial measurements are extrapolated to the full phase space yielding total cross-sections of σ(pp→H)=67-11+12 pb and 46 ± 12 pb at 13.6 TeV from the di-photon and ZZ∗→ 4 ℓ measurements respectively. The two measurements are combined into a total cross-section measurement of σ(pp→ H) = 58.2 ± 8.7 pb, to be compared with the Standard Model prediction of σ(pp→ H) SM= 59.9 ± 2.6 pb.

    • The inclusive top-quark-pair production cross section ???̄ and its ratio to the ?-boson production cross section have been measured in proton–proton collisions at √? = 13.6 TeV, using 29 fb−1 of data collected in 2022 with the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Using events with an opposite-charge electron-muon pair and ?-tagged jets, and assuming Standard Model decays, the top-quark-pair production cross section is measured to be ???̄ = 850± 3(stat.) ± 18(syst.) ± 20(lumi.) pb. The ratio of the ??̄ and the ?-boson production cross sections is also measured, where the ?-boson contribution is determined for inclusive ?+?− and ?+?− events in a fiducial phase space. The relative uncertainty on the ratio is reduced compared to the ??̄ cross section, thanks to the cancellation of several systematic uncertainties. The result for the ratio, ???̄∕? = 1.145 ± 0.003(stat.) ± 0.021(syst.)±0.002(lumi.) is consistent with the Standard Model prediction using the PDF4LHC21 PDF set.

    • This letter reports the observation of W(ℓν)γγ production in proton-proton collisions. This measurement uses the full Run 2 sample of events recorded at a center-of-mass energy of s=13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1. Events with a leptonically-decaying W boson and at least two photons are considered. The background-only hypothesis is rejected with an observed and expected significance of 5.6 standard deviations. The inclusive fiducial production cross section of W(eν)γγ and W(μν)γγ events is measured to be σfid=13.8±1.1(stat)+2.1−2.0(syst)±0.1(lumi) fb, in agreement with the Standard Model prediction.

    • The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons, often referred to as quark/gluon tagging, plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider, as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced background. This paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration, using √s = 13 TeV proton-proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb-1 collected by the ATLAS experiment. Two taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied: one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet, and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree. A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data, by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet pseudorapidity. Differences in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.

    • A search for a heavy CP-odd Higgs boson, A, decaying into a Z boson and a heavy CP-even Higgs boson, H, is presented. It uses the full LHC Run 2 dataset of pp collisions at root s = 13TeV collected with the ATLAS detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb(-1). The search for A -> ZH is performed in the l(+)l(-)t (t) over bar t and nu(nu) over barb (b) over bar final states and surpasses the reach of previous searches in different final states in the region with m(H) > 350 GeV and m(A) > 800 GeV. No significant deviation from the Standard Model expectation is found. Upper limits are placed on the production cross-section times the decay branching ratios. Limits with less model dependence are also presented as functions of the reconstructed m(t (t) over bar) and m(b (b) over bar) distributions in the l(+)l(-)t (t) over bar and nu(nu) over barb (b) over bar channels, respectively. In addition, the results are interpreted in the context of two-Higgs-doublet models.

    • Searches for new resonances are performed using an unsupervised anomaly-detection technique. Events with at least one electron or muon are selected from 140 fb−1 of pp collisions at √s ¼ 13 TeV recorded by ATLAS at the Large Hadron Collider. The approach involves training an autoencoder on data, and subsequently defining anomalous regions based on the reconstruction loss of the decoder. Studies focus on nine invariant mass spectra that contain pairs of objects consisting of one light jet or b jet and either one lepton (e; μ), photon, or second light jet or b jet in the anomalous regions. No significant deviations from the background hypotheses are observed. Limits on contributions from generic Gaussian signals with various widths of the resonance mass are obtained for nine invariant masses in the anomalous regions. © 2024 CERN, for the ATLAS Collaboration.

  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - : Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH. - 1029-8479 .- 1126-6708. ; 2024:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A search for non-resonant Higgs boson pair (HH) production is presented, in which one of the Higgs bosons decays to a b-quark pair (bb¯) and the other decays to WW*, ZZ*, or τ+τ−, with in each case a final state with ℓ+ℓ−+ neutrinos (ℓ = e, μ). The analysis targets separately the gluon-gluon fusion and vector boson fusion production modes. Data recorded by the ATLAS detector in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1, are used in this analysis. Events are selected to have exactly two b-tagged jets and two leptons with opposite electric charge and missing transverse momentum in the final state. These events are classified using multivariate analysis algorithms to separate the HH events from other Standard Model processes. No evidence of the signal is found. The observed (expected) upper limit on the cross-section for non-resonant Higgs boson pair production is determined to be 9.7 (16.2) times the Standard Model prediction at 95% confidence level. The Higgs boson self-interaction coupling parameter κλ and the quadrilinear coupling parameter κ2V are each separately constrained by this analysis to be within the ranges [−6.2, 13.3] and [−0.17, 2.4], respectively, at 95% confidence level, when all other parameters are fixed. © The Author(s) 2024.

    • This paper presents a search for a new Z' resonance decaying into a pair of dark quarks which hadronise into dark hadrons before promptly decaying back as Standard Model particles. This analysis is based on proton-proton collision data recorded at root s = 13TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider between 2015 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb(-1). After selecting events containing large-radius jets with high track multiplicity, the invariant mass distribution of the two highest-transverse-momentum jets is scanned to look for an excess above a data-driven estimate of the Standard Model multijet background. No significant excess of events is observed and the results are thus used to set 95% confidence-level upper limits on the production cross-section times branching ratio of the Z' to dark quarks as a function of the Z' mass for various dark-quark scenarios.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A search for the decay of the Higgs boson to a Z boson and a light, pseudoscalar particle, a, decaying respectively to two leptons and to two photons is reported. The search uses the full LHC Run 2 proton–proton collision data at s=13 TeV, corresponding to 139 fb−1 collected by the ATLAS detector. This is one of the first searches for this specific decay mode of the Higgs boson, and it probes unexplored parameter space in models with axion-like particles (ALPs) and extended scalar sectors. The mass of the a particle is assumed to be in the range 0.1–33 GeV. The data are analysed in two categories: a merged category where the photons from the a decay are reconstructed in the ATLAS calorimeter as a single cluster, and a resolved category in which two separate photons are detected. The main background processes are from Standard Model Z boson production in association with photons or jets. The data are in agreement with the background predictions, and upper limits on the branching ratio of the Higgs boson decay to Za times the branching ratio a→γγ are derived at the 95% confidence level and they range from 0.08% to 2% depending on the mass of the a particle. The results are also interpreted in the context of ALP models. © 2024 The Author(s)

    • This letter presents a search for narrow, high-mass resonances in the Zγ final state with the Z boson decaying into a pair of electrons or muons. The √?=13 TeV pp collision data were recorded by the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider and have an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1. The data are found to be in agreement with the Standard Model background expectation. Upper limits are set on the resonance production cross section times the decay branching ratio into Zγ. For spin-0 resonances produced via gluon–gluon fusion, the observed limits at 95% confidence level vary between 65.5 fb and 0.6 fb, while for spin-2 resonances produced via gluon–gluon fusion (or quark–antiquark initial states) limits vary between 77.4 (76.1) fb and 0.6 (0.5) fb, for the mass range from 220 GeV to 3400 GeV.

    • A search for the associated production of a heavy resonance with a top-quark or a top-antitop-quark pair, and decaying into a tt¯ pair is presented. The search uses the data recorded by the ATLAS detector in pp collisions at s=13 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider during the years 2015–2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb-1. Events containing exactly one electron or muon are selected. The two hadronically decaying top quarks from the resonance decay are reconstructed using jets clustered with a large radius parameter of R=1. The invariant mass spectrum of the two top quark candidates is used to search for a resonance signal in the range of 1.0 TeV to 3.2 TeV. The presence of a signal is examined using an approach with minimal model dependence followed by a model-dependent interpretation. No significant excess is observed over the background expectation. Upper limits on the production cross section times branching ratio at 95% confidence level are provided for a heavy Z′ boson based on a simplified model, for Z′ mass between 1.0 TeV and 3.0 TeV. The observed (expected) limits range from 21 (14) fb to 119 (86) fb depending on the choice of model parameters. © The Author(s) 2024.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Charged particle reconstruction in the presence of many simultaneous proton–proton (pp) collisions in the LHC is a challenging task for the ATLAS experiment’s reconstruction software due to the combinatorial complexity. This paper describes the major changes made to adapt the software to reconstruct high-activity collisions with an average of 50 or more simultaneous pp interactions per bunch crossing (pile-up) promptly using the available computing resources. The performance of the key components of the track reconstruction chain and its dependence on pile-up are evaluated, and the improvement achieved compared to the previous software version is quantified. For events with an average of 60pp collisions per bunch crossing, the updated track reconstruction is twice as fast as the previous version, without significant reduction in reconstruction efficiency and while reducing the rate of combinatorial fake tracks by more than a factor two. © The Author(s) 2024.

    • A search for nonresonant Higgs boson pair production in the b (b) over bar gamma gamma final state is performed using 140 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. This analysis supersedes and expands upon the previous nonresonant ATLAS results in this final state based on the same data sample. The analysis strategy is optimised to probe anomalous values not only of the Higgs (H) boson self-coupling modifier kappa(lambda) but also of the quartic HHVV (V = W, Z) coupling modifier kappa(2V). No significant excess above the expected background from Standard Model processes is observed. An observed upper limit mu(HH) < 4.0 is set at 95% confidence level on the Higgs boson pair production cross-section normalised to its Standard Model prediction. The 95% confidence intervals for the coupling modifiers are -1.4 < kappa(lambda) < 6.9 and -0.5 < kappa(2V) < 2.7, assuming all other Higgs boson couplings except the one under study are fixed to the Standard Model predictions. The results are interpreted in the Standard Model effective field theory and Higgs effective field theory frameworks in terms of constraints on the couplings of anomalous Higgs boson (self-)interactions.

  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - : American Physical Society (APS). - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 132:13
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This Letter presents the first study of Higgs boson production in association with a vector boson (V ¼ W or Z) in the fully hadronic qqbb final state using data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb−1. The vector bosons and Higgs bosons are each reconstructed as large-radius jets and tagged using jet substructure techniques. Dedicated tagging algorithms exploiting b-tagging properties are used to identify jets consistent with Higgs bosons decaying into bb̄. Dominant backgrounds from multijet production are determined directly from the data, and a likelihood fit to the jet mass distribution of Higgs boson candidates is used to extract the number of signal events. The VH production cross section is measured inclusively and differentially in several ranges of Higgs boson transverse momentum: 250–450, 450–650, and greater than 650 GeV. The inclusive signal yield relative to the standard model expectation is observed to be μ = 1.4+1.0−0.9 and the corresponding cross section is 3.1 ± 1.3(stat)+1.8−1.4(syst) pb. © 2024 CERN, for the ATLAS Collaboration.
