  • Abnormal Motion Detection in a Real-Time Smart Camera System
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Third ACM/IEEE International Conference on Distributed Smart Cameras, 2009. ICDSC 2009. - 9781424446209 ; , s. 410-416
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper discusses a method for abnormal motion detection and its real-time implementation on a smart camera. Abnormal motion detection is a surveillance technique that only allows unfamiliar motion patterns to result in alarms. Our approach has two phases. First, normal motion is detected and the motion paths are trained, building up a model of normal behaviour. Feed-forward neural networks are here used for learning. Second, abnormal motion is detected by comparing the current observed motion to the stored model. A complete demonstration system is implemented to detect abnormal paths of persons moving in an indoor space. As platform we used a wireless smart camera system containing an SIMD (Single. Instruction Multiple-Data) processor for real-time detection of moving persons and an 8051 microcontroller for implementing the neural network. The 8051 also functions as camera host to broadcast abnormal events using Zig Bee to a main network system.

  • Optimal decomposition of large-neighborhood CNN templates
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Proceedings 8th CNNA. ; , s. 160-165
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • From a practical point of view, template decomposition is an important issue since image processing operations can be non−local while the cells in physical CNN realizations often only communicate with cells in their direct neighborhood. In this paper the existing relation between Mathematical Morphology and CNNs is used to derive an optimal template decomposition strategy for a specific class of templates. The strategy is based on the decomposition of morphological structuring elements.

  • On the analysis of neural networks for image processing
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Lecture Notes in Computer Science (Knowledge-Based Intelligent Information and Engineering Systems, Proceedings Pt 2). - Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer Berlin Heidelberg. - 0302-9743 .- 1611-3349. - 9783540408048 ; 2774, s. 950-957
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper illustrates a novel method to analyze artificial neural networks so as to gain insight into their internal functionality. To this purpose, we will show analysis results of some feed-forward-error-back-propagation neural networks for image processing. We win describe them in terms of domain-dependent basic functions, which axe, in the case of the digital image processing domain, differential operators of various orders and with various angles of operation. Some other pixel classification techniques axe analyzed in the same way, enabling easy comparison.

  • Translating feed-forward nets to SOM-like maps
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Proceedings ProRisc?03. - 9073461391 ; , s. 447-452
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A major disadvantage of feedforward neural networks is still the difficulty to gain insight into their internal functionality. This is much less the case for, e.g., nets that are trained unsupervised, such as Kohonen’s self-organizing feature maps (SOMs). These offer a direct view into the stored knowledge, as their internal knowledge is stored in the same format as the input data that was used for training or is used for evaluation. This paper discusses a mathematical transformation of a feed-forward network into a SOMlike structure such that its internal knowledge can be visually interpreted. This is particularly applicable to networks trained in the general classification problem domain.

  • Early detection of abnormal network behavior
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Proceedings AILS-04 Workshop. - 1650-1276. ; , s. 54-59
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The past decade has witnessed a marked increase in distributed system complexity. This was driven by a maturing technology that steadily decreased the number of faults. Unfortunately these fewer faults have become exponentially more costly. It becomes mandatory to detect faults prior to taking effect on the network. Such an early detection requires a new test detection and fault containment strategy, of which the outline and some basic ingredients are sketched here.

  • Remote Gaming by Deliberate Cellphone Movement
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: 1st International Conference on Information Technology, 2008. - 9781424422449 ; , s. 57-60
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The input device for Remote Gaming has matured from a simple pointing device to a wireless console and recently even motion sensors are added. Similar motion sensors have already been integrated in camera’s to provide for image stabilization. In the cellphone, global motion is foremost determined through image processing. The paper extends this concept to support gaming, while aiming for a low-complexity solution that supports mobile equipment in general. Characteristic movements are camera- and user dependent. Therefore a state-based approach with 1-lag linear prediction is used to extract the Global Motion Vector and filter it for Video Stabilization (unintended) and Gaming Directives (intended).

  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Proceedings ProRISC. ; , s. 201-208
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The paper presents the architecture and building blocks for a digital CNN, extending the previous ILVA design with packet switched communication and an OSI-compliant functional structure. Locality of operation results in a generic VHDL description that can be easily compiled for the various demands of real-time image processing. Some experiments with 2-neighborhood operations are shown.
