  • Multidisciplinary Research on Integration of Human Factors and Production Concepts such as TQM - A Participatory Discussion Session
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the Conference on TQM and Human Factors. - 9172195207 ; 2, s. 439-448
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A discussion session where the conference participants are invited to participate is planned. One topic for the session is to discuss experiences of multidisciplinary research on integration of human factors and different production concepts applied in change processes within Swedish companies. An important question that the discussion will focus on is: How to get high quality in multidisciplinary research? Another topic is to discuss how people from different disciplines in the companies interact with each other and with the researchers. Researchers from the centre Change@Work at Lund University in Sweden will present some of their experiences from several years of multidisciplinary research in companies. As a background the research questions within Change@Work are presented below. Discussions during the workshop will be performed according to methods used by the researchers in their research in the companies. All discussion will be documented and later sent to all workshop participants.

  • Improvements at Work. A Multi-Disciplinary Research and Dissemination Programme
  • 1997
  • Ingår i: Logistik und Arbeit. ; :9/10.97 März, s. 39-41
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Contemporary organizations have begun to realize that competitive power and sustainability emanates to a large extent from their flexibility and ability to adapt to increasingly more rapid changes in the environment. Therefore, change and development processes are ever more tending to become oriented towards both making critical processes visible and flexible and organizing for continuous learning from experiences in day-to-day work. These experiences form the basis of both continuous improvement activities and innovations. Working life research has an important role to play in the renewal of change and development processes. Multidisciplinary research programmes contribute to quality, knowledge enhancement and the ongoing exchange of experiences in this process.. In this paper, such a programme, Improvements at Work, along with its theoretical foundations, research methods and dissimination activities, is described. Furthermore, examples of ongoing studies are presented. The two accompanying articles, present some of the individual research topics within the programme.

  • Evaluation of a Workplace Redesign of a Grocery Checkout System
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Applied Ergonomics. - 1872-9126. ; 29:4, s. 261-266
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects on the working postures and movements of a cashier when two different locations of the scales (one to the left of the cashier, the other under the conveyer belt in front of the cashier) were used in a grocery checkout system. Two cashiers (of average stature and short stature) were videotaped while working, in both sitting and standing working positions. Analysis of the video tapes was performed using the WOPALAS method and video observations. The results of the study show that the design of the checkout system with the scales under the conveyer belt provides a more favourable working position for both the taller and the shorter cashier. Additionally, the results indicate that a standing position is more favourable than a sitting one for the taller cashier while for the shorter cashier the sitting position is better.

  • Continuous Improvements at Work - a Programme in an Inter-Disciplinary Research Centre on Humans, Technology and Change at Work
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: Human Factors in Organizational Design and Management - V. ; , s. 489-492
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this programme is to contribute to the scientific and practical knowledge about continuous improvements (CI) at work. Some of the principles of CI like: the emphasis on small and incremental changes, the use of structured tools for problem-solving and the monitoring of improvements, and the responsibility of operative personnel for the CI activity rather than experts and task-forces, are combined with methods and principles from Scandinavian research about work environments, participation and workteams.
