  • Negotiating shifting smellscapes in everyday life
  • 2017
  • Other publication (pop. science, debate, etc.)abstract
    • Given the cultural conditioning of the senses, the smellscapes of everyday life (in homes, neighbourhoods, workplaces and cities) play an important part ineveryday experiences, emotions and encounters. Increased global mobility and climate change mean that unfamiliar smells are met more frequently, integrating with and altering the taken for granted smellscapes of our lives. How do people of different cultures negotiate unfamiliar smells in a variety of settings? What emotions do scents 'in and out of place' evoke? What memories, knowledge and moral judgements are used to understand smells? What vocabulary is used to describe these experiences?Everyday materialities are visible and invisible. Our visible research artefact (the charm bracelet) produces invisible research artefacts (the smells). Controlled remotely by an app, the smells enter different spaces and social contexts, at different times, for different durations. The object's mobility is integral to the question which it poses.

  • Textile design and surface pattern design with/in relation to spatial contexts.
  • 2014
  • Other publication (pop. science, debate, etc.)abstract
    • This research area is about textile design and surface pattern design with/in relation to spatial contexts. With this background, some fundamental themes that frame the field of the PhD work are described. More specifically, surface patterns, pattern design, scale and pattern expressions as well as textile design and design methods, within a spatial context. Ornament in several senses, repetition and pattern relations. Within these areas I will try to explain what this means, how this affects the visual, what is notable, problematic and difficult. And then give examples; reviewing previous projects in related areas, but also contemporary and historical views on the issues.

  • Magnetic Textiles : Exploring the Non-Visual in Textile Design
  • 2018
  • Other publication (pop. science, debate, etc.)abstract
    • Workshop within the course 'Form and Materials 2'WORKSHOP: Magnetic Textiles: Exploring the Non-Visual in Textile DesignThis workshop will explore the design possibilities of magnetic phenomenon in textile design. Magnetic phenomenon holds the quality of being imperceptible until manifested in some way, such as through physical interaction. This phenomenon presents itself as a non-visual material, and, paradoxically, as a physical material to be utilized in design. The inclusion of magnetic threads in textile constructions allow for hidden attributes to be expressed, for example through kinetic behaviours and haptic feedback, which thereby enhance the dimensions of design available to us. This area of non-visual material exploration becomes particularly rich when combined with the variables specific to textile design such as yarn compositions, structure, and texture. In this workshop students will work with magnetic and non-magnetic threads, wires, or yarns, to create a series of magnetic textile design samples using one or more textile construction technique(s) of their choosing (e.g. knitting, crochet, weaving, etc.). Students will design textiles that emit sound waves or electromagnetic radiation, or that are kinetically actuated through the use of neodymium magnets. Students will have both independent and supported work periods. Samples will be presented on the last day of the workshop in a group critique format

  • Collaborative Process Modeling : The Intersport Case Study
  • 2010
  • In: Handbook on business process management. - Berlin : Springer. - 9783642004155 ; , s. 279-298
  • Book chapter (pop. science, debate, etc.)abstract
    • Business strategies need to be aligned with business process models. In this chap-ter experiences from a collaborative process modeling effort performed at Inter-sport, Sweden, for the purpose of creating a solid base for taking a business into the future will be elaborated on. In this effort the new process design is aligned with strategic goals. By a co-design approach for deriving business process mod-els diverse stakeholders’ knowledge and interest are captured in the development of tangible descriptions of the future. Business plans are given a meaning and par-ticipating actors become committed to implement business strategies.
