- Remote imaging measurements of laser-induced fluorescence have been performed, with application towards cultural heritage. Measurement campaigns have been performed at, e.g., the Coliseum in Rome. Differences in fluorescence spectra from different points were found and images corresponding to different features could be produced for thematic mapping.

- How can cities integrate historic layers into their urban development? How can tangible and intangible heritages be read, interpreted and utilized in a sustainable city and landscape development? Which significance could an ancient road have in this context? These are the overall questions in this book. It contains a number of different approaches to the interaction between the ancient road Via Tiburtina and the surrounding urban landscape east of Rome towards Tivoli, a rich palimpsest of distinguishable interrelated layers created during at least three millennia. One hypothesis being explored is, that structures like Via Tiburtina still can determine the morphology of the urban landscape. Settlements, buildings, space, movement and cultural artefacts have therefore come into focus in investigating if broken connections could be re-established, and thus creating a dialogue between Rome’s earlier epochs and the future.

- The Via Tecta is a unique feature in Roman architecture. It is the gallery leading the traffic on the Via Tiburtina through the substructure of the Sanctuary of Hercules Victor at Tivoli. This extraordinary space organized the urban side of pastoral life and reflects the economy of animal breeding, capital investments and markets, protected by god Hercules. One of our ambitions is to visualize the Via Tecta in a context which stresses its role in the movements on Via Tiburtina, and thus as a part of an organized economic system of animal breeding, the so-called transhumance. The idea is to display this history through illustrations, digital reconstructions and models, elaborated according to the latest scientific results, and using the gallery itself as venue for the exhibition. A second aim is to discuss how to communicate the possible functions of the sanctuary through images and inviting the public to participate in the interpretations. Visual communication and interpretations is a dialogue between producer and consumer where a mutual dependence is present that establishes guiding formulas for how ancient culture is communicated. We want to shift the visualisation's centre of gravity from presenter to communicator, thus promoting different ways of interpretation rather than final truths and explore various ways of communicating with the visitor that challenges these formulas.
