  • Low-lying resonance states in the Be-9 continuum
  • 2005
  • In: Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693. ; 618:1-4, s. 43-50
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Excited states in Be-9 from 2 to 9 MeV are studied via beta delayed particle emission from Li-9. The broad overlapping particle unbound states are investigated using an extension of an experimental method developed for dealing with three-body decays of broad isolated levels. The results confirm the existence of a broad state at 5 MeV, with a width of 2 MeV. Angular correlations are used for firm spin determinations for this and other levels.

  • Be-11(beta p), a quasi-free neutron decay?
  • 2014
  • In: Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693. ; 732, s. 305-308
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We have observed beta(-)-delayed proton emission from the neutron-rich nucleus Be-11 by analyzing a sample collected at the ISOLDE facility at CERN with accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS). With a branching ratio of (8.3 +/- 0.9). 10(-6) the strength of this decay mode, as measured by the B-GT-value, is unexpectedly high. The result is discussed within a simple single-particle model and could be interpreted as a quasi-free decay of the Be-11 halo neutron into a single-proton state.

  • One-neutron knockout from Sc51-55
  • 2012
  • In: European Physical Journal A. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-601X .- 1434-6001. ; 48:Dec., s. 191-10
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Results are presented from a one-neutron knockout experiment at relativistic energies of approximate to 420 A MeV on Sc51-55 using the GSI Fragment Separator as a two-stage magnetic spectrometer and the Miniball array for gamma-ray detection. Inclusive longitudinal momentum distributions and cross-sections were measured enabling the determination of the contributions corresponding to knockout from the nu p(1/2), nu p(3/2), (L = 1) and nu f(7/2), nu f(5/2) (L = 3) neutron orbitals. The observed L = 1 and L = 3 contributions are compared with theoretical cross-sections using eikonal knockout theory and spectroscopic factors from shell model calculations using the GXPF1A interaction. The measured inclusive knockout cross-sections generally follow the trends expected theoretically and given by the spectroscopic strength predicted from the shell model calculations. However, the deduced L = 1 cross-sections are generally 30-40% higher while the L = 3 contributions are about a factor of two smaller than predicted. This points to a promotion of neutrons from the nu f(7/2) to the nu p(3/2) orbital indicating a weakening of the N = 28 shell gap in these nuclei. While this is not predicted for the phenomenological GXPF1A interaction such a weakening is predicted by recent calculations using realistic low-momentum interactions V-lowk obtained by evolving a chiral N3LO nucleon-nucleon potential.

  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • In this work we have studied the break‐up of 12C following the reactions 10B(3He,pααα) and 11B(3He,dααα). The study was performed at the 5 MV tandem in Madrid. The break‐up gives us information on excited states in 12C from the famous Hoyle state up to an energy of almost 18 MeV. Using a highly segmented experimental set‐up the simultaneous detection of the three alpha particles in coincidence with a proton or deuteron respectively made possible a full kinematic reconstruction of the break‐up. On the basis of the energies of the 3 α particles and their angular correlations it has been possible to determine the spin and parity of states for cases in which the assignment has been doubtful. Some of these levels will also de‐excite via electromagnetic emission. The comparison between the energy of proton that populate a state of 12C and the sum of the energies of the 3α emitted from the same state makes possible to determine the presence of electromagnetic disintegration (γ) to lower states within 12C followed by the 3α break‐up.

  • Study of Neutron Rich Neon Isotopes
  • 1992
  • In: Zeitschrift fur Physik A Hadrons and Nuclei. - 1431-5831 .- 0939-7922. ; 342:3, s. 303-307
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The half-lives and P(n)-values of the neutron rich isotopes Ne-26-29 have been determined. The results are compared to shell-model calculations and good agreement is found except for Ne-29, where the half-life exceeds the predictions by more than an order of magnitude. This unexpectedly long half-life can be explained as due to a fp intruder configuration.

  • The 8Li + 2H reaction studied in inverse kinematics at 3.15 MeV/nucleon using the REX-ISOLDE post-accelerator
  • 2011
  • In: Physical Review C - Nuclear Physics. - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 84:6, s. 064616-
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The reaction 8Li + 2H has been studied in inverse kinematics at the incident energy of 3.15 MeV/nucleon, using the REX-ISOLDE post-accelerator. The reaction channels corresponding to (d,p), (d,d), and (d,t) reactions populating ground states and low-lying excited states in 7–9Li have been identified and the related angular distributions extracted and compared with coupled-channels, distorted-wave Born approximation (DWBA), and coupled-reaction-channels calculations. For the inelastic and (d,t) channels we find that higher order effects are very important and hence one needs to go beyond the simple DWBA to extract reliable structure information from these processes.
