  • Distributed Robust Stability Analysis of Interconnected Uncertain Systems
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 51st IEEE Conference on Decision and Control. - 0743-1546. - 9781467320641 - 9781467320658 ; , s. 1548-1553
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper considers robust stability analysis of a large network of interconnected uncertain systems. To avoid analyzing the entire network as a single large, lumped system, we model the network interconnections with integral quadratic constraints. This approach yields a sparse linear matrix inequality which can be decomposed into a set of smaller, coupled linear matrix inequalities. This allows us to solve the analysis problem efficiently and in a distributed manner. We also show that the decomposed problem is equivalent to the original robustness analysis problem, and hence our method does not introduce additional conservativeness.

  • Serotonin (5-HT) receptor 2b activation augments glucose-stimulated insulin secretion in human and mouse islets of Langerhans.
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Diabetologia. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1432-0428 .- 0012-186X. ; 59:4, s. 744-754
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Gq-coupled 5-hydroxytryptamine 2B (5-HT2B) receptor is known to regulate the proliferation of islet beta cells during pregnancy. However, the role of serotonin in the control of insulin release is still controversial. The aim of the present study was to explore the role of the 5-HT2B receptor in the regulation of insulin secretion in mouse and human islets, as well as in clonal INS-1(832/13) cells.

  • Graphic Notation, Indeterminacy and Improvisation : Implementing Choice Within a Compositional Framework
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Open Cultural Studies. - : Sciendo. - 2451-3474. ; 2:1, s. 639-653
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this paper is to examine the use of graphic notation in relation to improvisation and indeterminacy in practice. The paper opens with a background context around terms and ideas about improvisation and indeterminate music pioneered by composers in the 20th century. The techniques the author used in the pieces Fluttering (Brondum 2015) and Serpentine Line (Brondum 2010) are examined and discussed in informal interviews with four musicians. The paper closes with a discussion and conclusions gained from the interviews and from working with musicians in the context of using graphic notation as a bridge between improvisation and notated music. Documentation of the author’s practice and research of these methodological and aesthetical issues may be of interest to composers and musicians that work with similar techniques. It may also add to theory by developing the understanding of a composer’s own approach, and in extension, to ask questions on how to develop these theories further.

  • Analyses of activated sludge processes consisting of a plug-flow reactor and a non-ideal settler
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: 9th IWA Symposium on Systems Analysis and Integrated Assessment (Watermatex).
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An activated sludge process (ASP) consisting of a plug-flow reactor (PFR) and a non-ideal settler is modelled and analysed. One soluble substrate component and one particulate biomass are assumed. The biomass growth rate is described by a Monod function. The settler model includes hindered settling and compression. A model describing the steady-state behaviour of the ASP is derived which constrains the settler to work with a fixed sludge blanket height in the thickening zone. The model provides new understanding for these types of ASPs and may be used for novel design schemes. The numerical example suggests that the steady-state solutions of the ASP give a one-parameter family ofsolutions, where the parameter is the recycle ratio 푟.

  • Functional effects of neuropeptide Y receptors on blood flow and nitric oxide levels in the human nose
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. - : American Thoracic Society. - 1535-4970 .- 1073-449X. ; 160:5, s. 1724-1728
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this study was to examine dose-dependent effects of intranasal application of neuropeptide Y (NPY) on nasal mucosal blood flow, blood content, and intranasal nitric oxide (NO) concentration. Blood flow was measured by laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) and blood content by rhinomanometry. Mucosal biopsies were taken for investigation of Y1 and Y2 receptor mRNA expression, using the reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Intranasal application of NPY evoked a dose-dependent reduction of nasal mucosal blood flow. Maximal vasoconstriction, seen at 12 nmol, was -37.5 +/- 6.2%, p < 0.05 (n = 9). The vasoconstrictive effect developed within 2 to 4 min and lasted > 17 min. NPY evoked a dose-dependent reduction of nasal airway resistance (NAR) on the ipsilateral side. Maximal decrease was -24.0 +/- 10.0% at 12 nmol, p < 0.05 (n = 9). There was a decrease in nasal NO production on the ipsilateral side after application of NPY 12 nmol (-7.4 +/- 1.2%, p < 0.05, n = 8). RT-PCR products corresponding to Y1 receptor but not Y2 receptor mRNA were obtained from biopsies of the nasal mucosa. In conclusion, NPY is a potent vasoconstrictor in the human nose reducing mucosal blood flow, as well as the blood content. The effect is probably mediated via Y1 receptors. NPY receptor agonists may prove beneficial in the treatment of the congested nose in allergic or vasomotor rhinitis.

  • Carbene chemistry of arsenic, antimony, and bismuth : origin, evolution and future prospects
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Dalton Transactions. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 1477-9226 .- 1477-9234. ; 51:22, s. 8540-8556
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The discovery of the first isolable N-heterocyclic carbene in 1991 ushered in a new era in coordination chemistry. The remarkable bonding properties of carbenes have led to their rapid proliferation as auxiliary ligands for a wide range of transition metals and main group elements. In the case of group 15, while carbene-stabilized nitrogen and phosphorus compounds are extensively studied, the scope of research has shrunk significantly from arsenic to bismuth. This is essentially attributed to the decrease in stability of the C-E bond upon descending the group. Even so, modulating the carbene backbone or introducing alternative synthetic strategies not only alleviates the stability issues but also offers promising results in terms of the bonding and reactivities of these compounds. The purpose of the present perspective is to provide a comprehensive overview of the origins and development of carbene chemistry of arsenic, antimony, and bismuth, as well as to highlight the future prospects of this field.

  • CMOS mixed analog/digital building blocks for signal processing
  • 1999
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • A mixed analog/digital multiply-accumulate unit is presented. The unit is composed of the multiplying D/A converter and a polarity switching network. It is featured by an analog continuous-time input port, a discretetime output port, and a digital input port for the quantized multiplying coefficient. This unit constitute a core for mixed analog-digital computations, and its versatility can be compared to the all-digital multiply-accumulate unit. Mixed-signal computations is useful in environments where the input signals are analog in nature, but where signal processing in the digital domain is desired. A traditional system adapted for such an environment consist of an A/D converter, followed by digital signal processing elements, or a digital signal processor. It is shown that the system power drain can be reduced considerable if using the mixed analog/digital MAC unit followed by an A/D converter instead of the former configuration. This is true when the signal processing task reduces the required A/D conversion rate or accuracy, and when a low number of MAC units are required, since the complexity (chip area) of such units are considerable. Some proposed suitable signal processing tasks are pattern matching (not shown in the thesis) and narrowband PIR filtering followed by decimation, which possibly are suitable for radio receiver applications. A design methodology for the realization of PIR filters suitable for implementation with a low number of MAC units is given. Mixed analog/digital MAC units have been designed with 1-bit and 8-bit coefficient resolution respectively and implemented in a double-poly 0.6µm CMOS process. Chip measurements have verified high performance of the 1-bit mixed analog/digital MAC unit, but the 8-bit counterpart still suffers from imperfections of unknown origin. The consequence of the imperfections show up as a coefficient dead zone. The bottom-plate sample-and-hold circuit is analyzed with simulations. It is shown that the track-mode linearity depends on the analog input frequency. If the track-mode linearity, the hold-mode introduced thermal noise, and the desired bandwidth as a fraction of the Nyquist frequency is considered - maximum spuriousfree dynamic range, is achieved with a low bias voltage, and with a low input voltage swing.
