  • Higher order MIMO outdoor-to-indoor measurements using repeaters
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference. - 1550-2252. - 9781424425198
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In this paper we present results from a outdoor- to-indoor MIMO measurement campaign where we study the effect of repeaters on singular values, spatial richness, capacity, and delay spread distributions. We present results from different repeater scenarios such as, e.g. different outdoor/indoor repeater deployments with single/dual polarized antennas. The measurements show that repeaters significantly enhance the received SNR while they increase the delay spread and decrease the spatial richness of the MIMO channel. However, the main conclusion is that a significant increase in channel capacity is attained when deploying repeaters mostly thanks to their ability to provide spatial multiplexing over the high-quality eigenmodes they may provide. The number of such eigenmodes is limited by the number of repeaters, deployment, and their antennas. © 2010 IEEE.

  • Statistical Assessment of Core Loss Measurement Techniques for Laminated Steel
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Statistical Assessment of Core Loss Measurement Techniques for Laminated Steel. - 2380-856X .- 2694-0264. - 9781665486941 - 9781665486934 ; 2023
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, a comparative study of core losses in laminated steel samples by means of inferential statistics is presented. In particular, core loss measurements taken upon Epstein Frame, Single-Strip tester, and Ring Core specimens at several frequencies and induction levels are compared via Analysis of Variance and two-sample t-tests. The hypothesis of a statistically significant difference among the testing procedures is sustained and ring cores showed a lower magnetic performance when compared to Epstein Frame and Single-Strip tester.

  • Successive cancellation decoding of single parity-check product codes
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory - Proceedings. - 2157-8095. - 9781509040964 ; , s. 1763-1767
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Abstract:We introduce successive cancellation (SC) decoding of product codes (PCs) with single parity-check (SPC) component codes. Recursive formulas are derived, which resemble the SC decoding algorithm of polar codes. We analyze the error probability of SPC-PCs over the binary erasure channel under SC decoding. A bridge with the analysis of PCs introduced by Elias in 1954 is also established. Furthermore, bounds on the block error probability under SC decoding are provided, and compared to the bounds under the original decoding algorithm proposed by Elias. It is shown that SC decoding of SPC-PCs achieves a lower block error probability than Elias' decoding.

  • Obstacle Avoidance in Dynamic Environments via Tunnel-following MPC with Adaptive Guiding Vector Fields
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the IEEE Conference on Decision and Control. - 9798350301243 ; 2023, s. 5784-5789
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper proposes a motion control scheme for robots operating in a dynamic environment with concave obstacles. A Model Predictive Controller (MPC) is constructed to drive the robot towards a goal position while ensuring collision avoidance without direct use of obstacle information in the optimization problem. This is achieved by guaranteeing tracking performance of an appropriately designed receding horizon path. The path is computed using a guiding vector field defined in a subspace of the free workspace where each point in the subspace satisfies a criteria for minimum distance to all obstacles. The effectiveness of the control scheme is illustrated by means of simulation.

  • Achieving Circular and Efficient Production Systems : Emerging Challenges from Industrial Cases
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Advances in Production Management Systems. Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable and Resilient Production Systems. - Cham : Springer. - 1868-4238 .- 1868-422X. - 9783030859091 - 9783030859121 - 9783030859107 ; , s. 523-533
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As the need for more responsible production and consumption grows quickly, so does the interest in the concepts of eco-efficiency and circularity. To make swift progress towards sustainability, solutions must be developed and deployed at scale. It is therefore critical to understand the challenges faced by industry to accelerate the uptake of best practices for circular and efficient production systems. This paper presents the emerging issues from three industrial pilots in an on-going collaborative project. We discuss and suggest further work around crucial questions such as: How to deploy circular solutions from lab to industrial scale? How can digitalization support efficient circular processes?.

  • Coulomb excitation of Sn-110 using REX-ISOLDE
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Physica Scripta. - 1402-4896 .- 0031-8949. ; T125, s. 190-191
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we report the preliminary result from the first Coulomb excitation experiment at REX-ISOLDE (Habs et al 1998 Nucl. Instrum. Methods B 139 128) using neutron-deficient Sn-beams. The motivation of the experiment is to deduce the reduced transition probability, B(E2; 2(+) -> 0(+)), for the sequence of neutron deficient, unstable, even-even Sn- isotopes from Sn-110 to ultimately Sn-110. Safe Coulomb excitation using a radioactive beam opens up a new path to study the lifetime of the first excited 2(+) state in these isotopes. The de-excitation path following fusion-evaporation reactions will for the even-even Sn isotopes pass via an isomeric 6(+) state, located at higher energy, which thus hampers measurements of the lifetime of the first excited state using, e. g., recoil-distance methods. For this reason the reduced transition probability of the first excited 2(+) state has remained unknown in this chain of isotopes although the B(E2) value of the stable isotope Sn-112 was measured approximately 30 years ago (see, e. g., Stelson et al 1970 Phys. Rev. C 2 2015). Our experiment is thus the first to accomplish a measurement of this quantity in Sn-110. It is believed that the determination of the B(E2) value in Sn-110 will indicate the turnover point from a trend of increasing B(E2) values for the heavier isotopes to a trend characterized by less collectivity. Our first preliminary result indicates that this assumption may well be correct.

  • Identifying bacteria using DNA binding maps
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: 17th International Conference on Miniaturized Systems for Chemistry and Life Sciences, MicroTAS 2013; Freiburg; Germany; 27 October 2013 through 31 October 2013. - 9781632666246 ; 1, s. 473-475
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have developed an assay, based on nanofluidic channels and fluorescence microscopy, for optical mapping of DNA based on competitive binding between two molecules - one fluorescent and one sequence selective. From the experimental data we can extract binding constants for the two competing DNA binders, which may be subsequently used to calculate a theoretical reference map of any DNA with known sequence. The goal is to create a method for fast identification of bacteria from single DNA molecules without the need for additional cultivation or amplification. We here demonstrate a proof-of-principle experiment on phage DNA and furthermore show that the method can be used to distinguish between two strains of E. coli DNA and to map pieces of DNA onto the full genome.

  • Investigation of the two-phase flow field of the GTX100 compressor inlet during off-line washing
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: ASME Turbo Expo 2004: Power for Land, Sea, and Air. - 0791841693 ; 4, s. 509-518
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A modern gas turbine compressor, with its highly aerodynamically loaded blades, is sensitive to changes in profile shape and to surface roughness. Fouling is inevitable, despite highly efficient filtration systems. The remedy to this problem is washing. There are two different approaches, online or off-line washing. The off-line wash is the most effective one, whilst on-line washing only prolongs the interval between off-line washes. Most findings in this field are highly empirical, being based on some 50 years of industrial gas turbine operation. This paper is an investigation of the two-phase flow in the bellmouth of the compressor during off-line washing conditions. The unit under study was the GTX100 turbo-set. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is used in this paper to perform a detailed study of the flow field. The main emphasis has been on studying the characteristics of the injected spray used for cleaning of the compressor. The benefit of heating this fluid is of special interest, since if this heating can be avoided, the outage time for the off-line compressor wash can be shortened. To provide the CFD computations with accurate boundary conditions for the spray, laser-based measurements of a spray, originating from an authentic wash nozzle, have been conducted. The commercial CFD program Star-Cd has been used for all computations. The computations show that the water injected, regardless of its inlet temperature, is cooled down to ambient air temperature well before the spray reaches the inlet guide vanes. This indicates that heating of the wash fluid can be abolished. The airflow seems not to be to influenced by the injected fluid to any great extend.

  • Indirect effects in evidential assessment: A case study on regression test technology adoption
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: 2nd International Workshop on Evidential Assessment of Software Technologies, EAST 2012. Lund, 22 September 2012. - New York, NY, USA : ACM. - 9781450315098 ; , s. 15-20
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: There is a need for effcient regression testing in most software development organizations. Often the proposed solutions involve automation. However, despite this being a well researched area, research results are rarely applied in industrial practice. Aim: In this paper we aim to bridge the gap between research and practice by providing examples of how evidence-based regression testing approaches can be adopted in industry. We also discuss challenges for the research community. Method: An industrial case study was carried out to evaluate the possibility to improve regression testing at Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications. We analyse the procedure undertaken based on frameworks from the evidence based software engineering, EBSE, paradigm (with a focus on the evidence) and automation literature (with a focus on the practical effects). Results: Our results pinpoint the need for systematic approaches when introducing a new tool. Practitioners and researchers need congruent guidelines supporting the appraisal of both the evidence base and the pragmatic effects, both direct but also indirect, of the changes. This is illustrated by the introduction of the automation perspective.

  • Rotation Averaging and Strong Duality
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition. - 1063-6919. - 9781538664209 ; , s. 127-135
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we explore the role of duality principles within the problem of rotation averaging, a fundamental task in a wide range of computer vision applications. In its conventional form, rotation averaging is stated as a minimization over multiple rotation constraints. As these constraints are non-convex, this problem is generally considered challenging to solve globally. We show how to circumvent this difficulty through the use of Lagrangian duality. While such an approach is well-known it is normally not guaranteed to provide a tight relaxation. Based on spectral graph theory, we analytically prove that in many cases there is no duality gap unless the noise levels are severe. This allows us to obtain certifiably global solutions to a class of important non-convex problems in polynomial time. We also propose an efficient, scalable algorithm that out-performs general purpose numerical solvers and is able to handle the large problem instances commonly occurring in structure from motion settings. The potential of this proposed method is demonstrated on a number of different problems, consisting of both synthetic and real-world data.
