  • Preem CCS - Synthesis of main project findings and insights
  • 2022
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The Preem-CCS project was a Swedish-Norwegian collaboration that investigated CO2 capture from the Preem refineries in Sweden, and subsequent ship transport of captured CO2 for permanent storage on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The project was conducted from early 2019 to beginning of 2022 and funding was provided by the Norwegian CLIMIT-Demo program via Gassnova, by the Swedish Energy Agency and by the participating industry and research partners (Preem, Aker Carbon Capture, SINTEF Energy Research, Chalmers University of Technology, and Equinor). This report summarizes the key findings of the project activities listed below:   - Pilot-scale testing of CO2 capture at the hydrogen production unit (HPU) at the Lysekil refinery using the Aker Carbon Capture (ACC) mobile test unit (MTU)   - In-depth investigation of energy efficiency opportunities along the CCS chain, including the use of residual heat at the Lysekil refinery site to satisfy the energy requirements for solvent regeneration   - Evaluation of the technical feasibility and cost evaluation of the CCS chain including CO2 capture and transportation by ship to storage facilities off the Norwegian west coast   - Investigation of relevant legal and regulatory aspects related to trans-border CO2 transport and storage and national emissions reduction commitments in Norway and Sweden The report also discusses the next steps towards implementation of CCS at Preem refineries in Lysekil and Gothenburg.

  • Urban traffic congestion and freight transport: A comparative assessment of three European cities.
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: 3rd Interdisciplinary International Conference on Production, Logistics and Traffic, Darmstadt.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • A high proportion of freight and service transport in cities takes place during peak hours on the road network. At the same time, trends in supply chains and logistics management together with changes in the behaviour by business and private consumers are leading to increased fragmentation of last mile deliveries. The combined result of this is that more vehicles are trying to make more deliveries at the same time and the infrastructure available (roadspace and curbside space) cannot cope. The paper explores this trend by means of a review in three contrasting cities: Stockholm, Brussels and London. The research is a qualitative assessment of trends and developments focused on freight transport and congestion. The three cities suffer from problems of congestion and all have a growing number of smaller vehicles being used in urban supply chains. This has consequences for congestion patterns. All three cities also face greater increases in freight transport activity compared with personal car travel. The scope to retime deliveries to the off peak hours (OHD) is important and some progress has been made although it is limited. The comparisons provide some insights and give ideas for further changes.

  • Increased recycling rates of construction and demolition waste through sustainable supply chain management
  • 2019
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The purpose of the paper is to identify application areas of sustainable supply chain management in construction and demolition waste (CDW) material recycling. It was found that: 1) There are great improvement areas for sorting and collection concerning improved planning routines and increased involvement of the recycling company, differentiated solutions regarding logistics in different type of projects and measurement and following up system for waste management performance. 2) The waste flow mapping method is helpful in identifying improvement areas of CDW but need some adjustment. Research areas for further studies are manufacturing planning and control, packaging management and user psychology.

  • Innovative transport solutions — Unravelling challenges in public-private networks
  • 2022
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • New transport solutions and technologies are continuously developed and implemented aiming to reduce emissions, increase road safety, and improve mobility for both people and goods. Solutions with high potential for increased sustainability often depend on multi-actor interaction and public-private collaborations. However, even if the solutions or technologies are considered to have high potential to contribute to sustainable transport systems, they are rarely implemented on a large scale. This thesis aims to contribute to current understanding of challenges of implementing innovative transport solutions that depend on interactions between public and private actors. The thesis builds upon a qualitative research design based on three studies, a literature review and two empirical studies, exploring three different transport solutions, UCC, MaaS, and geofencing, in their network contexts. The studies focus on challenges of achieving the transport solutions’ expected sustainability objectives, network and role dynamics in developing and implementing the solutions, and the perceived value of and barriers to the solutions. The results of the studies identify three sets of challenges: (1) the challenge of reaching sustainability objectives for innovative transport solutions, (2) the challenge of understanding networks and actor roles in innovative transport solutions, and (3) the challenges with resource interaction and combination for innovative transport solutions. To achieve the desired sustainability effects, better coordination is required within and between organizations and between different developing areas. Understanding of actor roles in implementing new transport solutions needs to be further elaborated. New types of innovation processes could be relevant to achieving the expected sustainability objectives of new transport solutions more efficiently.

  • Eight Steps for Managing Green Innovation in the Automotive Industry
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: The European Financial Review. - 1757-5680. ; June, s. 3-6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • There are approximately 1 billion automobiles in the world. In 2012, world production went above 84 million vehicles. With the increasing global demand for cars, it is estimated that there will be 2 billion of them by 2020. In fact, with 10 billion people living on Planet Earth by 2050, we could have around 6 billion cars registered if developing countries follow the same patterns of mobility and car ownership as the USA and Europe. When Henry Ford’s assembly line was aimed at producing for mass market, his philosophical drivers included personal mobility and freedom. For 100 years, cars could deliver this – and they still do in many of the World’s newly industrialised nations. However, nowadays cars are no longer synonymous with personal mobility and freedom. For people living in megacities (think of São Paulo, Tokyo, and Jakarta) the use of automobiles is not only reducing personal mobility and freedom but is also a reason for poor urban air quality, fatal accidents and increasing concerns about end-of-life waste and landfill availability. The question of “greening” the automotive industry no longer has a “yes or no” answer. The debate has moved on from “why” to “how” and “by when”, such that the greening innovations support other business conditions including profitability, customer satisfaction, product safety, and reliability.
