  • Sense-Making and Sense-Giving: Reaching Through the Smokescreen of Sustainability Disclosure in the Stock Market
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Challenges in Managing Sustainable Business. - Cham : Springer Nature. - 9783319932668 - 9783319932651 ; , s. 77-109

    • Financial analysts’ role as information intermediaries between management teams and investors is vital for the efficient allocation of resources on the stock market. The increased focus on sustainability information in corporate reports has affected financial analysts in their important work of interpreting, assessing and communicating value-added information to their clients, i.e. the investors. The challenges they face relate to the ambiguous nature of sustainability information and its difference from traditional financial information. How do analysts reach through this smokescreen? How do analysts make sense of sustainability information, and how do they give sense to this information when they provide investment advices to their investors? In this chapter, these challenges are addressed from a cognitive-frame perspective. We argue that the first part of 2000s was characterized by cognitive dissonance due to both a low social legitimacy and a low cognitive legitimacy, i.e. sustainability was not yet requested by the investors to be attended to and it was regarded too ambiguous to be relevant for being considered in a valuation context. In the latter part of 2010s, we argue that there is only a partial cognitive dissonance. At this time, sustainability information is beginning to be socially legitimate and requested by investors. However, the complexity of the situation remains. This type of information is still not considered as cognitive legitimate due to the ambiguous nature, which renders difficulties for the sense-making and sense-giving processes. The findings have implications not the least in the ongoing quest of developing frameworks, standards and legislation (e.g. the EU directive (2014/EU/95)), that opt for improving the relevance, credibility and comparability of sustainability information.

  • Middle thrust sheets in the Caledonide orogen, Sweden: the outer margin of Baltica, the continent–ocean transition zone and late Cambrian–Ordovician subduction–accretion
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Sweden. - : Geological Society of London. - 9781786204608 ; 50:1, s. 517-548
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Nappes of continental outer and outermost margin affinities (Middle Allochthon) were transported from locations west of the present Norwegian coast and thrust eastwards onto the Baltoscandian foreland basin and platform. They are of higher metamorphic grade than underlying thrust sheets and most are more penetratively deformed. These allochthons are treated here in three groups. The lower thrust sheets comprise Paleoproterozoic crystalline basement (e.g. Tännäs Augen Gneiss Nappe) and greenschist facies, Neoproterozoic, siliciclastic metasedimentary rocks (e.g. Offerdal Nappe). These are overthrust by a Cryogenian−Ediacaran succession intruded by c. 600 Ma dolerites (Baltoscandian Dyke Swarm) with an affinity to mid-ocean ridge basalt containing normal to enriched incompatible element contents (Särv Nappes). The upper sheets are dominated by higher-grade allochthons (Seve Nappe Complex) with similar, mainly siliciclastic sedimentary protoliths, more mafic magmatism and some solitary ultramafic bodies. Within this early Ediacaran continent−ocean transition zone (COT) assemblage, generally metamorphosed in amphibolite facies, some nappes experienced migmatization, and eclogites are present. Evidence of ultrahigh-pressure metamorphism has been obtained from garnet peridotites and eclogites; recently, microdiamonds have been discovered in paragneisses. Subduction of the COT started by the late Cambrian and accretion continued through the Ordovician, prior to the Baltica–Laurentia collision. Thrusting of all these Middle allochthons onto the foreland basin exceeds a distance of 400 km.

  • Value Creation in PSS Design Through Product and Packaging Innovation Processes
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: "Introduction to Product/Service-System Design. - London : Encyclopedia of Global Archaeology/Springer Verlag. - 9781848829084 - 9781848829091 ; , s. 93-109
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Over the years consumer packaging has become increasingly important as a value-adding element, since packages shape the consumer’s experience with the product during use, as well as accelerate the purchase decision. From a prod-uct/service system perspective, the strategic benefits of viewing packaging as a central value carrier are evident. To consumers, the product and its packaging are often perceived as closely integrated and consumers’ initial impression of the quality and value of a product is sometimes determined by their judgment of the package. Therefore the product, the package and its integrated benefits and fea-tures can be regarded as one product/package/service system. However, in general, product developers tend to over-emphasize the value of the functional properties related to the ‘core product’, leading them to overlook the differentiating benefits that might come from the integration of product and packaging innovation processes. The move towards developing integrated product/service offerings, rather than traditional artefact based products, implies that the role of packaging needs to be reconsidered in light of, e.g., total life-cycle provisions and environmentally sus-tainable offerings. Furthermore, to make a truly useful impact on product/service system design, the packaging perspective needs to be included from the very start of the development process. Integrated product development is an established research area, and the integration of different organizational functions and processes such as design, marketing, production and technology is already implemented. However the traditions of integrating product development with packaging development are not well established and immature. This chapter reviews previous research on the integration between product and packaging development, and highlights some important challenges and opportunities related to improved value creation in the product/service system paradigm.
