  • Inter-stellar clouds and formation of stars
  • 1978
  • Ingår i: Astrophysics and Space Science. - : Springer Nature. - 0004-640X .- 1572-946X. ; 55:2, s. 487-509
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Part I gives a survey of the drastic revision of cosmic plasma physics which is precipitated by the exploration of the magnetosphere throughin situ measurements. The ‘pseudo-plasma formalism’, which until now has almost completely dominated theoretical astrophysics, must be replaced by an experimentally based approach involving the introduction of a number of neglected plasma phenomena, such as electric double layers, critical velocity, and pinch effect. The general belief that star light is the main ionizer is shown to be doubtful; hydromagnetic conversion of gravitational and kinetic energy may often be much more important. In Part II the revised plasma physics is applied to dark clouds and star formation. Magnetic fields do not necessarily counteract the contraction of a cloud; they may just as well ‘pinch’ the cloud. Magnetic compression may be the main mechanism for forming interstellar clouds and keeping them together.Part III treats the formation of stars in a dusty cosmic plasma cloud. Star formation is due to an instability, but it is very unlikely that it has anything to do with the Jeans instability. A reasonable mechanism is that the sedimentation of ‘dust’ (including solid bodies of different size) is triggering off a gravitationally assisted accretion. A ‘stellesimal’ accretion analogous to the planetesimal accretion leads to the formation of a star surrounded by a very low density hollow in the cloud. Matter falling in from the cloud towards the star is the raw material for the formation of planets and satellites. The study of the evolution of a dark cloud leads to a scenario of planet formation which is reconcilable with the results obtained from studies based on solar system data. This means that the new approach to cosmical plasma physics discussed in Part I logically leads to a consistent picture of the evolution of dark clouds and the formation of solar systems.

The reception of two Swedish novels for teenagers in France in the early years of 2000 raises questions on the treatment of the sensitive topic of “violence with no apparent reasons” and how it brutally goes against a doxa, specific to children's literature. Through the reception and translation of these two novels it is possible to highlight a French resistance against a Swedish phobic idyll.

  • The Rainbow Flag as Friction: Transnational, Imagined Communities of Belonging among Pakistani LGBTQ Activists
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Culture Unbound. Journal of Current Cultural Research. - : Linkoping University Electronic Press. - 2000-1525. ; 8:3, s. 218-239
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • is article analyzes the frictions the rainbow ag creates between transnational, national and translocal discourses and materialities. It focuses on the ambivalent role that the transnational ‘rainbow’ space plays for community building for LG- BTQ activists in in Pakistan. e rainbow ag can function as a way to mobilize an imagined transnational community of belonging, enabling people to politicize their experiences of discrimination as a demand of recognition directed at the sta- te. But it can also enable homonationalism and transnational middle class forma- tions that exclude groups of people, for example illiterates and people perceived of as traditional, such as Khwaja Siras. e article is based on auto-ethnographic re ections on encounters with activists in Pakistan, and critically discusses the problem of feeling ‘too comfortable’, as white, Western, middle-class researchers, exploring ‘imperial narratives’ dominating the feminist and LGBTQ activist trans- national imagined community of belonging. It argues for the importance of recog- nizing the transnational space as a space in its own right, with di erent positions, communities and con icts stretching around the globe.

  • Time-resolved biomarker discovery inH-NMR data using generalized fuzzy Hough transform alignment and parallel factor analysis
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1618-2642 .- 1618-2650. ; 396:5, s. 1681-1689
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This work addresses the subject of time-series analysis of comprehensive 1H-NMR data of biological origin. One of the problems with toxicological and efficacy studies is the confounding of correlation between the administered drug, its metabolites and the systemic changes in molecular dynamics, i.e., the flux of drug-related molecules correlates with the molecules of system regulation. This correlation poses a problem for biomarker mining since this confounding must be untangled in order to separate true biomarker molecules from dose-related molecules. One way of achieving this goal is to perform pharmacokinetic analysis. The difference in pharmacokinetic time profiles of different molecules can aid in the elucidation of the origin of the dynamics, this can even be achieved regardless of whether the identity of the molecule is known or not. This mode of analysis is the basis for metabonomic studies of toxicology and efficacy. One major problem concerning the analysis of 1H-NMR data generated from metabonomic studies is that of the peak positional variation and of peak overlap. These phenomena induce variance in the data, obscuring the true information content and are hence unwanted but hard to avoid. Here, we show that by using the generalized fuzzy Hough transform spectral alignment, variable selection, and parallel factor analysis, we can solve both the alignment and the confounding problem stated above. Using the outlined method, several different temporal concentration profiles can be resolved and the majority of the studied molecules and their respective fluxes can be attributed to these resolved kinetic profiles. The resolved time profiles hereby simplifies finding true biomarkers and bio-patterns for early detection of biological conditions as well as providing more detailed information about the studied biological system. The presented method represents a significant step forward in time-series analysis of biological 1H-NMR data as it provides almost full automation of the whole data analysis process and is able to analyze over 800 unique features per sample. The method is demonstrated using a 1H-NMR rat urine dataset from a toxicology study and is compared with a classical approach: COW alignment followed by bucketing.

  • Patient reported outcome of pain after tonsil surgery : An analysis of 32,225 children from the National Tonsil Surgery Register in Sweden 2009-2016
  • 2017
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Tonsil surgery is common surgical procedure in children and cause significant pain under postoperative recovery. The objective of this register study was to explore factors affecting pain after pediatric tonsil surgery, using patient-reported outcomes from questionnaires in the National Tonsil Surgery Registry in Sweden, 30 days after surgery. A total of 32,225 tonsil surgeries on children (aged 1-18 years) during January 2009- November 2016 were included; 13,904 tonsillectomies with or without adenoidectomy (TE±A) and 18,321 tonsillotomies with or without adenoidectomy (TT±A). In surgery cases of indication obstruction, the TT±A stopped taking painkillers and returned to normal eating habits sooner, and had less contact with health care services due to pain, compared to TE±A. After TE±A, the indication infection group had more days on analgesics and more contacts with health care services due to pain, compared to the indication obstruction group. TE±A with cold-dissection technique resulted in fewer days on painkillers compared to warm-technique, and reduced the number of contacts with health care services due to pain. Older children were affected by more days of morbidity than the younger ones, but there was no gender difference after adjustment for age, dissection technique and hemostasis technique. Implementation of national guidelines for pain treatment (2013) and patient information on the website tonsilloperation.se seems to have increased the days on analgesics after surgery. Pain after tonsil surgery depends on the surgical procedure and technique, as well as factors such as the patient’s age and surgical indication. More studies including pain interventions are needed to improve the care of tonsillectomy patients.
