  • Hjärtats skrifter : en brevkulturs uttryck i korrespondensen mellan Anna Louisa Karsch och Johann Wilhelm Ludwig Gleim
  • 2007
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This dissertation examines the correspondence of the 18th-century German authors Anna Louisa Karsch and Johann Wilhelm Ludwig Gleim. The main emphasis of the present study is to demonstrate how readings of Karsch's and Gleim's correspondence shed light on epistolary culture. Particular attention is paid to the notion of epistolary culture as a relatively unrestrained ?experimental setting? for bourgeois social roles and models. The correspondence of Karsch and Gleim is seen as particularly relevant, because it displays and highlights a number of significant transitional phenomena concerning aesthetics, ethics and gender-roles in late 18th-century Germany. This involves, among other things, aspects of a pre-romantic aesthetics of expression, which is manifested in the ?natural style? of epistolary culture. The first chapter contains an analysis of the letter as a specific mode of communication. This includes an examination of the oral legacy of the letter as well as of the classical idea that the letter, more than any other written form, expresses the writer's ?inner self?. The second chapter focuses on role play as an integral part of epistolary culture. The role play is regarded as an instrument of socialisation, and Karsch's role persona ?Sappho? and this role's function in the correspondence with Gleim are analysed from this perspective. The following chapter depicts the so-called ?crisis in the code of communication?, a theory developed by German sociologist Niklas Luhmann and often used to describe the semantic difficulties in expressing deep interpersonal feelings around the middle of the 18th century. This frequently qouted and rephrased hypothesis is tested in relation to the expressions of love and friendship found in the letters. These expressions of love and friendship are studied against the backdrop of the so-called ?cult of friendship? of mid 18th-century Germany. The fourth chapter deals with the autobiographical letters of Anna Louisa Karsch. These letters are considered crucial to the contemporary 18th-century reception of Karsch, as the letters formed the basis for Johann Georg Sulzer's biographical introduction to Karsch's Auserlesene Gedichte. The autobiographical letters are scrutinized by means of several dichotomies, such as public/private and construction/authenticity. Special attention has been paid to how Karsch uses the concept of ?nature? as well as biblical modes of reading and of identification, and to how Karsch's use of these value-laden concepts converge towards the idea of a pre-romantic aesthetics of inspiration and genius.

  • Case management for persons with substance use disorders.

  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Patients with alcohol and other drug use disorders (AOD) frequently have multiple social, physical, and mental health treatment needs, yet have difficulty accessing community services, including drug abuse treatment. One strategy for linking patients with AOD with relevant services is case management, where a single case manager is responsible for linking patients with multiple relevant services. Objectives: To conduct a systematic review of all RCTs on the use of case management for helping drug abusers in or out of treatment. Outcome criteria included successful linkage with other services, illicit drug use outcomes, and a range of related outcomes. Search strategy: We searched the Cochrane Controlled Trials Register (Cochrane Library, issue 4, 2006), MEDLINE (1966 - 2006), EMBASE (1980 - 2006), LILACS (1982 - 2006), PsycINFO (1973 - 2006), Biological Abstracts (1982 t- 2000). Reference searching; personal communication; conference abstracts; book chapters on case management. Selection criteria: Randomized controlled studies that compared a specific model of case management with either treatment as usual or another treatment model, included only patients with at least one alcohol or drug related problem. Data collection and analysis: Two groups of reviewers extracted the data independently. Standardized mean difference was estimated. Main results: In total, we could extract results from 15 studies. Outcome on illicit drug use was reported from 7 studies with 2391 patients. The effect size for illicit drug use was not significant, and small (standardized mean difference (SMD)=0.12, confidence interval=-0.09,0.29, p=0.20). Substantial heterogeneity was found (I2=69.9%). Linkage to other treatment services was reported in 10 studies with 3132 patients. The effect size for linkage was moderate (SMD=0.42, 95% confidence interval=0.21 to 0.62, p<0.001), but substantial heterogeneity was found (I2=85.2%). Moderator analyses suggested that a part of the heterogeneity found in linkage studies could be explained by the presence or absence of a treatment manual for case management. A single, large trial of case management with two arms, showed that case management was superior to psychoeducation and drug counselling in reducing drug use. Authors' conclusions: There is current evidence supporting that case management can enhance linkage with other services. However, evidence that case management reduces drug use or produce other beneficial outcome is not conclusive.

  • Discourse Analysis — A Critical or Relativistic Perspective in Music Education?
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Nordic Network for Research in Music Education (NNMPF). - Lund : Nordiska Nätverket för Musikpedagogisk Forskning. ; , s. 1-4
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The purpose of this paper is to discuss the problems I have encountered under the development of the theoretical perspective of my thesis. First, discourse analysis is founded in social constructionism and post-structuralistic theory. Second, discourse analysis is a concept including different perspectives, where both more critical approaches with focus on discourses as determining and more relativistic approaches with focus on the actor and language appear. With the critical approach there is an epistemological possibility, a claim of knowledge. That would be unacceptable in relativistic discourse analysis where pluralism is a keyword and every stake is equal. Does a relativistic study add anything of value or is a critical approach most fruitful? I find it interesting to discuss consequences for a study from both a critical and a relativistic perspective. Furthermore, it is challenging to try to merge the two approaches.

  • Weyl product algebras and modulation spaces
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Journal of Functional Analysis. - : Elsevier BV. - 0022-1236. ; 251:2, s. 463-491
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We discuss algebraic properties of the Weyl product acting on modulation spaces. For a certain class of weight functions omega we prove that M-(omega)(p,q) is an algebra under the Weyl product if p epsilon [1, infinity] and 1 <= q <= min(p, p '). For the remaining cases P epsilon [1, infinity] and min(p, p ') < q <= infinity we show that the unweighted spaces M-p,M-q are not algebras under the Weyl product. (C) 2007 Elsevier Inc. • Very old people´s experience of occupational performance outside the home; : Possibilities and limitations
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Scand J Occup Ther. - : Informa UK Limited. ; 14:2, s. 77-85
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To support occupations outside the home for older people with functional limitations it is important to understand how the person, environment, and occupations influence performance. Therefore the purpose of this study was to describe how very old people experience occupational performance outside the home. Twenty-one single-living, very old persons, above 80 years, were strategically selected and interviewed. A phenomenographic approach was used for this study and the interviews were analyzed using contextual analysis. The findings showed a variation in the experience of occupational performance described in three referential aspects: keeping on doing as before, drawing on available resources, and living in constrained circumstances. Referring to everyday occupations the participants described how they continued to do what they had done before, but decline in functional capacity made it more difficult to overcome environmental barriers. They also described how they sometimes could put functional limitations aside and use their utmost capacity to reach their goals. When they could not do that any more, they had to find possibilities for occupations close to home. In order to support very old people's occupational performance outside the home, outdoor mobility has to be facilitated, including the design of the physical environment as well as possibilities for social interaction.
