  • On the temperature dependency and reversibility of sheet resistance of silver nanoparticles covered by 3-mercaptopropionic acid
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of materials science. Materials in electronics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0957-4522 .- 1573-482X. ; 28:5, s. 4035-4043
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The temperature dependency and reversibility of the sheet resistance of silver nanoparticles covered by 3-mercaptopropionic acid (Ag-MPA) molecules, used in the printed temperature sensor, has been investigated. The microstructural evaluation, the FTIR spectra and thermal property analyses of the Ag-MPA films suggest co-existence of both weakly adsorbed as well as firmly adsorbed MPA molecules on the surface of Ag nanoparticles. The weakly adsorbed MPA molecules was to a great extent be desorbed and removed from the surfaces of silver nanoparticles when heated up to 180 °C for the first time. While the firmly adsorbed MPA molecules remain on the surfaces of silver nanoparticles even at higher temperature. Yet the firmly adsorbed MPA molecules are likely having gone through a transformation circle from/to the gauche and trans conformations in correspondence to a heating and cooling cycle, which results in temperature dependent and reversible sheet resistance. The MPA molecules in the gauche conformation are more densely packed on the surface of silver nanoparticles and can hinder the electron’s movability within the Ag-MPA film. While in the trans conformation with lower ‘surface space’ coverage by the MPA molecules, electrons move more freely within the film. Based on the temperature dependent nature, the fully printed temperature sensor using the Ag-MPA nanoparticles as the functional layer was made, of which the highest sensitivity is 5.12% °C−1 at 200 °C.

  • Defining “Social Sustainability”: Towards a Sustainable Solution to the Conceptual Confusion
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Etikk i Praksis. - : Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) Library. - 1890-3991 .- 1890-4009. ; 13:2, s. 21-39
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The interest in "social sustainability" has recently increased in the field of urban development. We want societies, cities, and neighborhoods to be economically and environmentally sustainable, but we also want urban areas that are safe, diverse, walkable, and relaxing, just to mention a few examples. Strikingly, however, there is no consensus regarding what definition of "social sustainability" should be employed. Additionally, some people are skeptical about the prospect of finding a useful definition at all and claim it is impossible to satisfactorily define the concept for various reasons, such as its complexity. A potential first step towards navigating this conceptual maze is to provide desiderata for a definition of social sustainability. We defend a list of nine desiderata and thereby create a theoretical framework for analyzing and constructing a definition of "social sustainability". We also examine the skeptical arguments and find that it is premature to conclude that the goal of finding a useful definition is hopeless. With the criteria in place, the future debate can proceed by assessing definitions of "social sustainability" in a more structured and transparent manner. This activity is of upmost importance if we want to create just cities.

  • Carbon nanotube treated carbon fibre preforms for improved properties of aeronautical grade composites
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: ECCM 2012 - Composites at Venice, Proceedings of the 15th European Conference on Composite Materials. - Padova : European Conference on Composite Materials, ECCM. - 9788888785332
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The current paper reports work on development of enhanced carbon fibre composites manufactured by resin transfer moulding (RTM). In particular, the possibility to obtain a toughened composite through deposition of carbon nanotubes (CNT) on the fibres is investigated. The hypothesis is that deposition of CNT on the fibre surface has two major advantages: a) filtering problems during manufacturing are eliminated and b) CNT can contribute to a local toughening in the vicinity of fibres, where stress concentrations often are high. Unidirectional and multi-axial composites, with and without CNT-modification, were manufactured using conventional RTM-technique and HexFlow®RTM6 epoxy resin. The composites were characterized by means of mechanical testing (interlaminar shear strength, ILSS) and microscopy. Significant improvements by 13 to37 % in ILSS values were achieved with the addition of CNT. Stiffness degradation tests were also performed. The results from these tests were not completely conclusive. Some treatments promoted stiffness degradation whereas others had no apparent effect.

  • Quantitative NO2 measurements in an industrial sterilization rig using laser induced fluorescence
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Digital Holography and Three-Dimensional Imaging, DH 2016. - 2162-2701. - 9781943580156 ; Part F8-DH 2016
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • NO2 concentration measurements have been performed in an industrial test rig using laser-induced fluorescence. The goal is to improve the understanding of the electron-induced chemical species in the plasma, thus improving the neutralization scheme.

  • Students’ conceptualisation of multiplication as repeated addition or equal groups in relation to multi-digit and decimal numbers
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Multiplicative understanding is essential for mathematics learning and is supported by models for multiplication, such as equal groups and rectangular area, different calculations and arithmetical properties, such as distributivity. We investigated two students’ multiplicative understanding through their connections between models for multiplication, calculations and arithmetical properties and how their connections changed during the school years when multiplication is extended to multi-digits and decimal numbers. The case studies were conducted by individual interviews over five semesters. The students did not connect calculations to models for multiplication, but showed a robust conceptualisation of multiplication as repeated addition or equal groups. This supported their utilisation of distributivity to multi-digits, but constrained their utilisation of commutativity and for one student to make sense of decimal multiplication.
