  • Comparative genome- and proteome analysis of cerebral cortex from MK-801-treated rats.
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Journal of neuroscience research. - : Wiley. - 0360-4012 .- 1097-4547. ; 71:4, s. 526-33
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • cDNA microarrays and two-dimensional gel-electrophoresis in combination with mass spectrometry, were used to screen alterations in mRNA and protein levels, respectively, in cerebral cortex of MK-801-treated rats. The rats were divided in two groups; group 1 (short-term treated) and group 2 (long-term treated). In group 1, four genes were up-regulated and five down-regulated. In group 2, seven genes were up-regulated and six down-regulated. In group 1, the levels of one protein was increased and eight proteins reduced. In group 2, the levels of two proteins were increased and four proteins reduced. Several of the altered genes (casein kinase 2, glutamic acid decarboxylase, synaptotagmin, gamma aminobutyric acid [GABA] transporter, creatine kinase, and cytochrome c oxidase) and proteins (superoxide dismutase, hsp 60, hsp 72 and gamma-enolase) have previously been connected to schizophrenia. Alterations of the genes (microglobulin, c-jun proto-oncogene, 40S ribosomal protein S19, adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-ribosylation factors, platelet-derived growth factor, fructose-bisphophate aldolase A, and myelin proteolipid) and the proteins (stathmin, H+-transp. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) synthase, pyruvate dehydrogenase, beta-actin and alpha-enolase), have not, to our knowledge, earlier been implicated in schizophrenia pathology. Overall, these results with a combined approach of genomics and proteomics add to the validity of subchronic N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-receptor antagonist treatment as an animal model of schizophrenia.

  • Effects of pulse chirp on laser-driven proton acceleration
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Scientific Reports. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2045-2322. ; 12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Optimisation and reproducibility of beams of protons accelerated from laser-solid interactions require accurate control of a wide set of variables, concerning both the laser pulse and the target. Among the former ones, the chirp and temporal shape of the pulse reaching the experimental area may vary because of spectral phase modulations acquired along the laser system and beam transport. Here, we present an experimental study where we investigate the influence of the laser pulse chirp on proton acceleration from ultrathin flat foils (10 and 100 nm thickness), while minimising any asymmetry in the pulse temporal shape. The results show a ± 10 % change in the maximum proton energy depending on the sign of the chirp. This effect is most noticeable from 10 nm-thick target foils, suggesting a chirp-dependent influence of relativistic transparency.

  • A unified analysis for coded DS-CDMA with equal-gain chip combining in the downlink of OFDM systems
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Communications. - 0090-6778 .- 1558-0857. ; 53:2, s. 289-298
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents a novel unified analysis for the bit-error rate in the downlink of convolutionally coded and single-user detected multicarrier code-division multiple access (CDMA), multicarrier direct-sequence CDMA, time and frequency-domain spreading CDMA, and orthogonal frequency-division multiple access. Performance is analyzed under the assumption of Hadamard spreading codes, equal-gain chip combining, and a highly correlated frequency-selective Rayleigh-fading channel. Closed-form expressions are presented for the cumulative distribution function, probability distribution function, and moment-generating function for the signal-to-noise plus interference ratio after despreading. The presented results assume error-free channel estimates, a perfectly synchronized receiver, and are found to reasonably well agree with simulation results. © 2005 IEEE.

    • The Abraham Accords, signed by Israel and four Arab states in 2020, were one of President Donald Trump’s most renowned foreign policy successes. They were also one of few of his administration’s policies that enjoyed bipartisan support in the US. But what type of peace has emerged following the Abraham Accords? In what ways do the Abraham Accords go beyond the cold and authoritarian peace that Israel enjoys with Egypt, Jordan and to a certain extent with the Palestinian Authority? Departing from the four dimensions of cold, warm, authoritarian, and democratic peace, this article aims to problematize the peace created after the Abraham Accords. The analysis shows that change in relations between elites and publics during the two years that has followed since the signing of the accords escapes easy categorization and has elements of all four peace dimensions. Trade and tourism have increased significantly, and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco have made alterations in their education about the Holocaust. All this points to a warmer and more recognitional peace than the peace Israel has enjoyed with Egypt and Jordan. However, at the same time, local activists that protest the Abraham Accords are regularly abused. This is done not least with the aid of Israeli cyber technology, which is being exported to three of four Arab states that are part of the Abraham Accords. As we show in the analysis, the new peace and normaliza-tion agreements within the Abraham Accords are part of the modernization strate-gies of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, Sudan and even Saudi Arabia for the coming decades. These modernization strategies, which include aspects of liberalization as well, shall, with the possible exception of Sudan, not in any way be confused with democratization.

  • Advances of dual source, dual-energy imaging in postmortem CT
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Radiology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0720-048X .- 1872-7727. ; 68:3, s. 446-455
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper focuses on the use of multi-detector row dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) in the evaluation of postmortal examinations. The use of dual energy moves postmortem CT to an entirely new dimension of diagnostic sensitivity where contrast in the image is not merely limited to X-ray attenuation differences, but may include elements of functional and tissue characterization. This additional information may be used to improve the benefit postmortem imaging can provide to supplement and simplify the conventional autopsy. © 2008 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. All rights reserved.

  • Atlanto-axial rotatory subluxations in postmortem CT : radiologists be aware of a common pitfall
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Forensic Science International. - : Elsevier. - 0379-0738 .- 1872-6283. ; 225:1-3, s. 9-14
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of the present study was to determine the frequency of atlanto-axial rotatory subluxations (AARS) in multi detector computed tomography (MDCT) performed on human corpses for forensic purposes and to investigate whether these are a physiological postmortem finding or indicate a trauma to the neck region.80 forensic cases examined with MDCT from November 2003 to March 2007 were included in the study. The study was approved by the regional ethics committee. For each case volumes were rendered and investigated with reference to suspected AARS and any other anomalies of the head and neck region. The rotation of the head as well as in the atlanto-axial joint were measured and occurring AARS were judged according Fielding's classification. The finding of AARS was correlated to case criteria such as postmortem head rotation, sex, age, cause of death, time since death and further autopsy results. Statistical analysis was performed using Fisher's exact test, Wilcoxon's rank sums test and Chi-square test with Pearson approximation.70% (n = 56) of the cases included in the study presented with an AARS. A strong correlation (P < .0001) between suspected AARS and postmortem head rotation was found. Two cases presented with an atlanto-axial rotation greater than the head rotation. One showed an undiscovered lateral dislocation of the atlas, and one an unfused atlas-ring. There was no correlation to any further investigated case criteria. Ipsilateral AARS with head rotation alone does not indicate trauma to the neck.PmCT can substantially support forensic examinations of the skeleton, especially in body regions, which are elaborate to access at autopsy, such as the cervical spine. Isolated AARS (Fielding type I) on pmCT is usually a normal finding associated with ipsilateral head rotation.
