  • Structured feedback to undergraduate medical students: 3 years' experience of an assessment tool.
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Medical Teacher. - 0142-159X. ; 33:7, s. 349-357
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: There is a paucity of research on the effects of interactive feedback methods and sustained assessment strategies in formative assessment of students in the workplace. Aims: To investigate the outcome of long-term use of an assessment tool. Methods: Retrospective analysis of summarised assessment tools from 3 years of 464 final-year students in general practice. Quantitative data were analysed using non-parametric tests and a multi-level approach. Qualitative data were subjected to content analysis. Results: Students' main deficiencies in the consultation were in the domains of working diagnoses and management plans; however, supervisors emphasised goals of patient-centred communication and structure of the medical interview. As a group, students underestimated their clinical performance, compared to supervisors' judgement. Most students were supplied with specific goals, 58% with specific follow-up feedback. The majority of students and supervisors were satisfied with the assessment strategy. Long-term experience with the tool significantly increased the proportion of specific goals and feedback to students, supervisors' stringency of the assessment, and their satisfaction with the tool. Conclusions: The summarised assessment strategy proved feasible and acceptable with students and supervisors in a continuous attachment with assigned personal supervisors. However, there was room for improvement in supervisors' provision of specific follow-up feedback.

  • Principles of Semantically Integrated Conceptual Modelling Method
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Business Modeling and Software Design. - Switzerland, Cham : Springer. - 9783319572215 - 9783319572222 ; , s. 1-27

    • Abstract. To obtain value from the graphical representations that are used by different stakeholders during the system development process, they must be integrated. This is important for achieving a holistic understanding about system specification. Integration can be reached via modelling process. Currently, most of information system modelling methods present different modelling aspects in disparate modelling dimensions and therefore it is difficult to achieve semantic integrity of various diagrams. In this paper, we present the principles of semantically integrated conceptual modelling method for information system analysis and design. The foundation of this modelling method is based on interaction flows. This way of modelling is critical for the identification of discontinuity and inconsistency in information systems specifications. It also provides possibility to integrate business processes and business data, which is necessary for the integration of various architectural domains and to reach the holistic view of enterprise architecture. We have explained in object-oriented terms how interactive, structural and transitional aspects are merged. We also demonstrated the interpretation of various patterns, in terms of semantically integrated conceptual modelling method. It was shown that the method has sufficient expressive power to cover some special cases, which do not match the standard pattern of transaction. The inference rules of interactions help in reasoning about system decomposition. In this method, decomposition is graphically described as classification, inheritance or composition of concepts. SICM method is based on a single type of diagram, which enables reasoning about integration with the help of a special set of inference rules. The ultimate goal of this paper is to present the generic principles for computation- neutral modeling of service interactions. Keywords: Conceptual modelling, Modelling aspects, Service interactions, Consistency, Value flows, Inference rules, Decomposition, Object transitions.

  • Configuration of Platform Architectures in Construction
  • 2014
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Construction is often defined as a project-oriented industry that develops complex one-of-a-kind products using an engineer-to-order (ETO) design process. The technical solutions that are developed in specific projects often have integral product architectures that are difficult to re-use in continuous improvement processes. The ETO process also means that very few components can be produced before being ordered, which is necessary for creating economies of scale in production. In contrast, Modify-To-Order (MTO) Configure-To-Order (CTO) or Select variant-To-Order (STO) design processes based on theories of mass customization reuse technical solutions from earlier projects to varying degrees. However, many researchers argue that results and theories from the manufacturing industry cannot be used in the contexts of construction because each construction project has different functional requirements and local site conditions whose interaction mandates the creation of unique end products that cannot be modularized as is done in manufacturing industries. The purpose of this thesis was to investigate how mass customization principles could be utilized in the design of construction products, especially how the adoption of platform architectures and configurators could support the reuse of technical solutions between projects. Several case studies of projects using different specification levels (MTO, CTO and STO) were conducted to test theories of mass customization in the context of construction. The results obtained show that when working at the MTO and CTO specification levels, platform architectures should be based on modules that can be developed incrementally. STO products can be developed with integral product architectures, but if the needs of customers in the target market segment change this presents a risk of ad-hoc end product customization that will adversely affect the production system downstream in the value chain. For all studied specification levels, it is important to determine whether the target market volume is sufficient to justify the cost of developing a product platform. The introduction of design modules in modular platform architectures enables the development and use of configurators in ETO construction design processes. Such tools allow MTO platforms to be customized using a mixture of traditional ETO design and the configuration of predefined modules. Configuration tools for module customization at the MTO and CTO levels must therefore be integrated with the traditional design tools used in construction. The configuration of modular platform architectures also facilitates the effective use of information and its transfer between domains. As the use of pre-defined modules in the product specification process increases, the need to involve multiple design disciplines decreases. At the STO level, the design work can be reduced to such an extent that customization can be achieved using web-based configurators.Overall, the results presented in this thesis indicate that the Products in Product mass customization concept introduced by Erixon (1998) can be implemented at multiple specification levels in the traditional design of construction products. By introducing the new design module category into the platform architecture, predefined construction product platforms can be integrated with the traditional ETO design process and developed incrementally.

  • Investigating the impact of non-family CEOs : A review and agenda for future research
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • As the field of family business matures, research has focused on actors outside the owner family. The most important non-family member a family firm can hire is arguably a non-family CEO. Given the limited pool of family members, family firms regularly hire such actors, but our knowledge of them is fragmented. Using a systematic literature review, this article collects, organizes and structures current knowledge on the impact of non-family CEOs in family firms. I then propose a research agenda by engaging in ‘gapspotting’ and ‘assumption-challenging’, first outlining gaps in the existing literatures and proposing research questions to fill them, then identifying and problematizing three underlying assumptions in the literature. Finally, I develop alternatives to stimulate new research about non-family CEOs.

  • Familial Alzheimer’s disease patient-derived neurons reveal distinct mutation-specific effects on amyloid beta
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Molecular Psychiatry. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1359-4184 .- 1476-5578. ; 25:11, s. 2919-2931
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Familial Alzheimer’s disease (fAD) mutations alter amyloid precursor protein (APP) cleavage by γ-secretase, increasing the proportion of longer amyloidogenic amyloid-β (Aβ) peptides. Using five control induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines and seven iPSC lines generated from fAD patients, we investigated the effects of mutations on the Aβ secretome in human neurons generated in 2D and 3D. We also analysed matched CSF, post-mortem brain tissue, and iPSCs from the same participant with the APP V717I mutation. All fAD mutation lines demonstrated an increased Aβ42:40 ratio relative to controls, yet displayed varied signatures for Aβ43, Aβ38, and short Aβ fragments. We propose four qualitatively distinct mechanisms behind raised Aβ42:40. (1) APP V717I mutations alter γ-secretase cleavage site preference. Whereas, distinct presenilin 1 (PSEN1) mutations lead to either (2) reduced γ-secretase activity, (3) altered protein stability or (4) reduced PSEN1 maturation, all culminating in reduced γ-secretase carboxypeptidase-like activity. These data support Aβ mechanistic tenets in a human physiological model and substantiate iPSC-neurons for modelling fAD. © 2019, Springer Nature Limited.

  • Modification of silicon surfaces with H2SO4:H2O2:HF and HNO3:HF for wafer bonding applications
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the Third International Symposium on Semiconductor Wafer Bonding: Physics and Applications. ; , s. 163-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Two combinations of oxidizing and etching agents, H2SO4:H2O2:HF and HNO3:HF, have been used to modify silicon surfaces for wafer bonding. By tuning the HF-content of the mixtures, the chemical oxide thickness can be controlled between 0 and 10 Å. Using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy it is found, that the chemical composition of the surfaces can also be controlled. Terminating species, which can be obtained by the described procedures, are OH, F, and H. Both the described cleaning procedures permit hydrophilic bonding, giving a high room temperature bond strength, with a minimum of interfacial oxide. Different bonded combinations of terminated surfaces were investigated, and it was found that bonding a mainly F-terminated, or a mainly OH-terminated, surface to an H-terminated surface, does not yield any higher bond strength than bonding two H-terminated surfaces
