  • Perception of budgetary control : a study of differences across managers in Swedish public primary healthcare related to professional background and sex
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Journal of Nursing Management. - : Wiley-Blackwell. - 0966-0429 .- 1365-2834. ; 19:5, s. 664-672
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background  The composition of managers in Swedish public primary care centres has changed since the mid-1990s, favouring nurses and female managers. In parallel, health-care professionals have become more involved in the management structure and many have experienced an increased demand for cost containment. There is limited empirical evidence about how managers with different professional backgrounds perceive tight budgetary control.Aim  To examine whether perceptions of tight budgetary control across managers in Swedish public primary care are related to personal characteristics such as professional background and sex.Method  A questionnaire measuring perception of tight budgetary control was administered to all (636) identified managers in Swedish public primary care centres (response rate was 59%). Differences between groups were analysed through logistic regression and factor analysis. Results  Nurses and other non-physicians perceived the budgetary control to be tighter than did physicians and female physicians perceived the budgetary control to be tighter than did male physicians. Conclusions and implications for nursing management  Results suggest that nurses were more committed to the budgetary control system and county council objectives than physicians. The impact of these differences are uncertain, however, nurses’ capacity to influence primary care services may be more limited compared with physicians because of their lower professional status.

  • Adapting to local ethical standards: a case of a global company
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Business and Globalisation. - : Inderscience publishers. - 1753-3627 .- 1753-3635. ; 7:3, s. 367-385
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The normative challenges that emerge from a global-local tension, particularly with regard to the supra-legal normativity structures, such as ethical, aesthetical, or creedal, are addressed here. This study investigates a globally operating company that successfully adapted to the local ethical conditions, which contributed to its achievement of business success. Theoretically regarded, it is not clear how the phenomena of globalisation should be conceived. This investigation assumes a novel approach to the conceptual elaboration of globalisation, based upon some selected components from the Cosmonomic philosophy of H. Dooyeweerd. A multi-modal analysis of this case is presented, which uncovers inherent normativity structures governing the involved actors. This in turn provides a rationale for why the alignment between the ethical and economic norms may be congruent and positive. In this way, some initial and tentative proposals are advanced here for an alternative approach to the conception of the phenomena of globalisation.

  • Scripting Creativity
  • 2010. - 1
  • Bok (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In the field of music, discourse on creativity has predominantly centred on issues such as digitalization, piracy, copyright law, and the business dilemmas and challenges facing the major actors in the industry. What creativity is or could be is, however, seldom questioned: it is either taken for granted or seen as standing in stark opposition to the strategies of the majors trying to defend their positions in the field. This book contributes to the discourse on creativity by deconstructing a volume of the leading music journal in Scandinavia, Musikermagasinet, from a social constructionist perspective. It does this by asking what field (dis)positions are being mediated by the journal, and how this is accomplished.Creativity, it is proposed, can be seen as scripted in the field of music, and the journal as a gender scripting machine that inscribes – and exscribes – creative (dis)positions into the field in hegemonic and binary ways.

  • Social media marketing as an entrepreneurial learning process
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Technology Marketing. - Geneva : InderScience Publishers. - 1741-878X .- 1741-8798. ; 6:4, s. 331-340
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The purpose for this paper is to explore social media marketing fromthe perspective of entrepreneurial learning. The theoretical basis consists ofcontributions from the fields of organisational learning and entrepreneurship. An empirical study involving ten companies has been carried out. Thedata were analysed with methods inspired by grounded theory. Categoriesdescribing the companies’ social media presence from an entrepreneuriallearning perspective are provided. The value of using organisational learning asa framework for social media marketing is shown. Thus, the paper presents anovel way of studying social media activities which should contribute to thetheoretical fields of organisational learning and entrepreneurship as well as tothe understanding of social media marketing. For practitioners, the findingsprovide additional knowledge that should be useful for their own social mediaactivities.

  • Solid waste management by application of the WAMED model
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of Material Cycles and Waste Management. - : Springer Science+Business Media B.V.. - 1438-4957 .- 1611-8227. ; 12:2, s. 169-183
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article aims to develop a general model for the evaluation of ecological–economic efficiency that will serve as an information support tool for decision making at the corporate, municipal, and regional levels. It encompasses cost–benefi t analysis in solid waste management by applying a sustainability promoting approach that is explicitly related to monetary measures. A waste managements’efficient decision (WAMED) model based on cost–benefit analysis is proposed and developed to evaluate the ecological–economic efficiency of solid waste management schemes. The employment of common business administration methodology tools is featured. A classification of competing waste management models is introduced to facilitate evaluation of the relevance of the previously introduced WAMED model. Suggestions are made for how to combine the previously introduced EUROPE model, based on the equality principle, with the WAMED model to create economic incentives to reduce solid waste management-related emissions. A fictive case study presents the practical application of the proposed cost–benefit analysis-based theory to the landfilling concept. It is concluded that the presented methodology reflects an integrated approach to decreasing negative impacts on the environment and on the health of the population, while increasing economic benefits through the implementation of solid waste management projects.

  • Solid waste management baling scheme economics methodology
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Iranica Journal of Energy and Environment (IJEE). - : IDOSI Publications. - 2079-2115 .- 2079-2123. ; 2:2, s. 104-116
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A cost structure is proposed for evaluating and improving the ecological-economic efficiency of baling sub-scheme units within solid waste management schemes that end with, for example, incineration for heat and power production. The methodology proposed employs the previously introduced WAste Managements’ Efficient Decision model (WAMED) and the COmpany STatistical BUSiness Tool for Environmental Recovery indicator (COSTBUSTER). The previously introduced equality principle and the Efficient Use of Resources for Optimal Production Economy (EUROPE) model are applied so to in monetary terms express the emissions in case of bale related fire (sol), pollutions from leachate (liq) and odour (g) at a scheme. Previously, the EUROPE model has been applied to residuals from producing industry, the construction sector and whole landfills. A case study presents the practical application of the proposed methodology. It is concluded that the presented novel methodology for evaluation and improvement of the ecological-economic efficiency of solid waste baling management schemes simultaneously decreases the negative impact on the environment and the health of the population, provides the foundation of an investment appraisal support tool for the implementation of solid waste management projects and enables comparative analysis of estimated, actual and prevented monetary damages from the implementation of baling plant units.

  • Optimal Inventory Policies when Purchase Price and Demand are Stochastic
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Operations Research. - : Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). - 0030-364X .- 1526-5463. ; 59:1, s. 109-124
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we consider the problem of a firm that faces a stochastic (Poisson) demand and must replenishfrom a market in which prices fluctuate, such as a commodity market. We describe the price evolution as acontinuous stochastic process and we focus on commonly used processes suggested by the financial literature, such as the geometric Brownian motion and the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. It is well-known that under variablepurchase price, a price-dependent base-stock policy is optimal. Using the single-unit decomposition approach, weexplicitly characterize the optimal base-stock level using a series of threshold prices. We show that the base-stocklevel is first increasing and then decreasing in the current purchase price. We provide a procedure for calculatingthe thresholds, which yields closed-form solutions when price follows a geometric Brownian motion and implicitsolutions under the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck price model. In addition, our numerical study shows that the optimalpolicy performs much better than inventory policies that ignore future price evolution, because it tends to placelarger orders when prices are expected to increase.
