  • Självbilder : filmer från Västmanland
  • 2006. - 1

  • Underweight, weight loss and related risk factors among older adults in sheltered housing--a Swedish follow-up study.
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: J Nutr Health Aging. - 1279-7707 .- 1760-4788. ; 10:4, s. 255-62
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Medial displacement of the navicular has been considered a major explanation for residual forefoot adduction (FFA) in congenital clubfoot and also a frequent reason for dissatisfaction after limited surgery. In this study, it was hypothesized that there would be an association between the degree of medial displacement of the navicular and residual FFA in clubfeet. The position of the navicular was retrospectively measured by ultrasonography in 49 clubfeet in 35 children at ages 3 to 6 years and correlated to residual FFA measured on footprints and radiographs (talo-first metatarsal angle). In the 49 clubfeet, the navicular was significantly more medially displaced toward the medial malleolus than in the 21 contralateral normal feet (P < 0.001). However, there was no correlation between the degree of medial displacement of the navicular and the degree of FFA measured on footprints (P = 0.690) or on radiographs (P = 0.390). Thus, there were clubfeet with straight forefoot and a medially displaced navicular, that is, "spurious correction," and clubfeet with FFA and the navicular in correct position in relation to the head of the talus. Both patient satisfaction and foot score declined with larger FFA. The results support the view that ultrasonography is a helpful tool for assessing the position of the navicular. The critical issue for analysis is whether the FFA is due to malalignment in the talonavicular joint or more distally.

  • Perceived and individual ideals of gender in Swedish adolescents with and without an eating disorder
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Eating Disorders. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1064-0266 .- 1532-530X. ; 14:1, s. 55-72
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Three open-ended questions based on Steiner-Adair (1986) were used to study gender concepts in relation to ideals in adolescent boys and girls and eating-disordered girls. The answers were coded according to themes emanating from the collected data and not predetermined. Dichotomous differences were found between the genders regarding perceived ideals of body size, but clinical and nonclinical girls perceived ideals of society and media similarly. Individual gender concepts differed substantially from the perceived ideals, and were most often focused on lifestyle and life conditions. However, the clinical girls were somewhat more likely to emphasize appearance and loving relationships.

  • Perceptions of gender ideals predict outcome of eating disorders in adolescent girls
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Eating Disorders. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1064-0266 .- 1532-530X. ; 14:4, s. 287-304
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Clinical features have low predictive value for the outcome of eating disorders. This study focuses on the possible predictive value of gender ideals. Data was from adolescent girls thoroughly assessed both at presentation and at a three-year follow up. Few variables differed between the outcome groups. However, perceptions of gender ideals, as measured by the Three Questions of Ideals, were found to contribute to the prediction of outcome. A discriminant analysis showed that gender ideals, maturity fears, sexual debut, and vomiting were significant discriminators in a set of factors, which correctly classified the outcome for 75.3% of the sample.

  • Older people's experience of participating in a reminiscence group with a gerotranscendental perspective : Reminiscence group with a gerotranscendental perspective in practice
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Older People Nursing. - : Wiley. - 1748-3735 .- 1748-3743. ; 1:3, s. 159-167
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Tornstam's theory of gerotranscendence provides the theoretical underpinning for two small reminiscence groups that met for eight weekly sessions in a Swedish daycentre. Tornstams's theoretical perspective provides a developmental model for understanding positive progressive changes in values, attitudes and behaviour in the second half of life. Practical guidelines derived from this theory informed the group-work approach used. Participants' opinions about their reminiscence experience were analysed to determine the relevance of gerotranscendental theory as a basis for understanding older people's use of reminiscence in the ageing process. The study aimed at investigating older peoples' experiences of participating in a reminiscence group with a gerotranscendental perspective. The study used a qualitative approach. Older people were invited to participate in reminiscence group sessions arranged at a daycentre. When the sessions were finished, participants were interviewed about their experience of the reminiscence group. Data were analysed and categorized by using qualitative methods. The participants were satisfied with the arrangement of the group sessions. All participants believed they had reminisced and thought much more about their childhood and also recalled other memories from their lives during the period. Three quite different views emerged of the recall experience and effects of participating in the reminiscence group: 'An activity like any other; an activity that led to thoughts about memories from life or an activity that influenced my thoughts about life.' Findings suggest that it is possible to arrange reminiscence groups from a gerotranscendental perspective that serve as an intervention in gerontological nursing. This paper provides some guidance concerning how this type of group may be arranged and the various categories of participant response that may be expected.
