  • Highly integrated VCSEL-based 10Gb/s miniature optical sub-assembly
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Proceedings - Electronic Components and Technology Conference. - Lake Buena Vista, FL : IEEE. ; , s. 1333-1338
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In order to fit with the present and future needs of the Datacom transceiver market, newly designed high rate transmitter optical subassemblies (TOSAs) have to be compact, low cost and compatible with mass production. We propose here an innovative design strategy that reaches all these targets by integrating a 10Gbps 850nmVCSEL laser diode and its laser driver with other functionalities (e.g. power monitoring and thermal monitoring) in a small form factor package. Taking advantages of the optical properties of the VCSEL and using flip-chip techniques, the transmitter exhibits excellent hyperfrequency performances and compatibility with mass production due to the use of collective manufacturing technologies and passive optical alignment. This versatile approach is also applicable to high rate receivers, parallel optics emitters, and singlemode low cost transmitter integrating long wavelength VCSELs.

  • Self-reported dental coping strategies among fearful adult patients: preliminary enquiry explorations.
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: European journal of oral sciences. - : Wiley. - 0909-8836 .- 1600-0722. ; 115:6, s. 484-90
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This investigation explored strategies to cope with dental treatment used by fearful adult patients undergoing regular dental care and those with phobic avoidance. A newly constructed 20-item questionnaire entitled The Dental Coping Strategy Questionnaire (DCSQ-20) was distributed consecutively to 171 individuals with self- and dentist-reported high dental fear, of whom 77 had dental phobic avoidance and were attending a dental fear clinic and 94 were undergoing regular care at one of three different public dental clinics. The level of dental fear was high in both groups, but significantly higher among avoidant individuals. Several of the DCSQ-20 items showed statistically significant differences between groups. Factor analysis of the DCSQ-20 yielded a four-factor solution explaining 52% of the total variance. The factors were labelled (i) 'self-efficacy statements', (ii) 'self distraction and distancing', (iii) 'catastrophizing', and (iv) 'praying and despair'. The DCSQ-20 displayed sound psychometric properties, and the reliability (Cronbach's alpha) for the factors was between 0.68-0.78. Factors (iii) and (iv) correlated significantly with dental anxiety and were rated significantly higher among individuals with phobic avoidance. In a logistic regression analysis, gender, dental anxiety, and three of the four factors (i, iii, iv) were predictive of regularity vs. phobic avoidance of dental care.

  • The Roots of Autism and ADHD Twin Study in Sweden (RATSS)
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Twin Research and Human Genetics. - Stockholm : Cambridge University Press (CUP). - 1832-4274 .- 1839-2628. ; 17:3, s. 164-176
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Neurodevelopmental disorders affect a substantial minority of the general population. Their origins are still largely unknown, but a complex interplay of genetic and environmental factors causing disturbances of the central nervous system's maturation and a variety of higher cognitive skills is presumed. Only limited research of rather small sample size and narrow scope has been conducted in neurodevelopmental disorders using a twin-differences design. The Roots of Autism and ADHD Twin Study in Sweden (RATSS) is an ongoing project targeting monozygotic twins discordant for categorical or dimensional autistic and inattentive/hyperactive-impulsive phenotypes as well as other neurodevelopmental disorders, and typically developing twin controls. Included pairs are 9 years of age or older, and comprehensively assessed for psychopathology, medical history, neuropsychology, and dysmorphology, as well as structural, functional, and molecular brain imaging. Specimens are collected for induced pluripotent (iPS) and neuroepithelial stem cells, genetic, gut bacteria, protein-/monoamine, and electron microscopy analyses. RATSS's objective is to generate a launch pad for novel surveys to understand the complexity of genotype-environment-phenotype interactions in autism spectrum disorder and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). By October 2013, RATSS had collected data from 55 twin pairs, among them 10 monozygotic pairs discordant for autism spectrum disorder, seven for ADHD, and four for other neurodevelopmental disorders. This article describes the design, recruitment, data collection, measures, collected pairs' characteristics, as well as ongoing and planned analyses in RATSS. Potential gains of the study comprise the identification of environmentally mediated biomarkers, the emergence of candidates for drug development, translational modeling, and new leads for prevention of incapacitating outcomes.

  • Female sex is associated with increased mortality and morbidity early, but not late, after coronary artery bypass grafting
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: European Heart Journal. - : Oxford University Press. - 0195-668X .- 1522-9645. ; 17:9, s. 1426-1431
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective To describe mortality and morbidity during a period of 2 years after coronary artery bypass grafting in relation to gender. Design Prospective follow-up study. Setting Two regional cardiothoracic centres which performed all the coronary artery bypass operations in western Sweden at the time. Sub|ects A total of 2129 (1727 (81%) men and 402 (19%) women) consecutive patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery between June 1988 and June 1991 without concomitant procedures. Results Females were older and more frequently had a history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, congestive heart failure, renal dysfunction and obesity. In a multivariate analysis, taking account of age, history of cardiovascular diseases and renal dysfunction, female sex appeared as a significant independent predictor of mortality during the 30 days after coronary artery bypass grafting (/><0-05), but not thereafter. Various postoperative complications including neurological deficit, hydro- and pneumo-thorax, perioperative myocardial damage and the need for assist devices and prolonged reperfusion were more common in females than males. Conclusion Females run an increased risk of early death and the development of postoperative complications after coronary artery bypass surgery as compared with males. Late mortality does not appear to be influenced by gender and the long-term benefit of the coronary artery bypass graft operation is similar in men and women.
