  • Introducing a Plug-In Framework for Real-Time Analysis in Rubus-ICE
  • 2008
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In this paper, we present the development of a plug-in framework for integration of real-time analysis methods in the Rubus Integrated Component Environment (Rubus-ICE). We also present the implementation, and evaluate the integration, of two state of the art analysis techniques (i) response-time analysis for tasks with offsets and (ii) shared stack analysis, as plug-ins, in the Rubus-ICE framework. The paper shows that the proposed framework is well suited for integration of complex analysis methods. However, experience also show that analysis methods are not easily transferred from an academic environment to industry. The main reason for this, we believe, originates from differences in requirements and assumptions between industry and academia.

  • Present and Future Requirements in Developing Industrial Embedded Real-Time Systems - Interviews with Designers in the Vehicle Domain
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: 13th Annual IEEE International Conference and Workshop on the Engineering of Computer Based Systems (ECBS), Potsdam, Germany. - 9780769525464 ; , s. 139-147
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we aim at capturing the industrial viewpoint of todays and future requirements in development of embedded real-time systems. We do this by interviewing ten senior designers at four Swedish companies, developing embedded applications in the vehicle domain. This study shows that reliability and safety are the main properties in focus during development. It also shows that the amount of functionality has been increasing in the examined systems. Still the present requirements are fulfilled using considerably homogenous development methods. The study also shows that, in the future, there will be even stronger requirements on dependability and control performance at the same time as requirements on more softer and resource demanding functionality will continue to increase. Consequently, the complexity will increase, and with diverging requirements, more heterogeneous development methods are called for to fulfil all application specific requirements.

  • Supporting Engineering Requirements in the Rubus Component Model
  • 2008
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In this paper we present a component model for development of distributed real-time systems. The model is developed to support development of embedded control systems for ground vehicles. The model aims at supporting three important activities in real-time development, (i) design, (ii) analysis and (iii) synthesis. These activities emphasise different and sometimes conflicting requirements that need to be balanced. For example, developers desire freedom in designing to solve complex tasks, analysis tools require the design to be formal enough for analysis and synthesis need to be efficient for low run-time footprint. We have considered industrial requirements for these activities and developed the RubusCMv3 component model. The model has been developed in close cooperation with industrial partners and it is currently being evaluated on real systems.

  • Syzygies, constant rank, and beyond
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of symbolic computation. - : Academic Press. - 0747-7171 .- 1095-855X. ; 123
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We study linear PDE with constant coefficients. The constant rank condition on a system of linear PDEs with constant coefficients is often used in the theory of compensated compactness. While this is a purely linear algebraic condition, the nonlinear algebra concept of primary decomposition is another important tool for studying such system of PDEs. In this paper we investigate the connection between these two concepts. From the nonlinear analysis point of view, we make some progress in the study of weak lower semicontinuity of integral functionals defined on sequences of PDE constrained fields, when the PDEs do not have constant rank.

  • Work-Family Conflict and Self-Rated Health : the Role of Gender and Educational Level. Baseline Data from the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil).
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Behavioral Medicine. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1070-5503 .- 1532-7558. ; 23:3, s. 372-382
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PURPOSE: This study examined gender differences in the association between work-family conflict and self-rated health and evaluated the effect of educational attainment.METHOD: We used baseline data from ELSA-Brasil, a cohort study of civil servants from six Brazilian state capitals. Our samples included 12,017 active workers aged 34-72 years. Work-family conflict was measured by four indicators measuring effects of work on family, effects of family in work and lack of time for leisure and personal care.RESULTS: Women experienced more frequent work-family conflict, but in both genders, increased work-family conflict directly correlated with poorer self-rated health. Women's educational level interacted with three work-family conflict indicators. For time-based effects of work on family, highly educated women had higher odds of suboptimal self-rated health (OR = 1.54; 95 % CI = 1.19-1.99) than less educated women (OR = 1.14; 95 % CI = 0.92-1.42). For strain-based effects of work on family, women with higher and lower education levels had OR = 1.91 (95 % CI 1.48-2.47) and OR = 1.40 (95 % CI 1.12-1.75), respectively. For lack of time for leisure and personal care, women with higher and lower education levels had OR = 2.60 (95 % CI = 1.95-3.47) and OR = 1.11 (95 % CI = 0.90-1.38), respectively.CONCLUSION: Women's education level affects the relationship between work-family conflict and self-rated health. The results may contribute to prevention activities.

  • Enhancing the process of environmental improvement in manufacturing industry
  • 2012
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • To enable competitive industrial production, it is crucial to understand how to design and operate competitive production systems. Today, much operations management research focuses on the environmental dimension of sustainable manufacturing. Even though the environmental impact of industrial and commercial activities has become more vivid and severe, evidence points to a slow diffusion of industry-led ideas and actions for improving the environmental performance. It seems as if the manufacturing industry is still in the beginning of the process towards designing and operating environmentally benign production systems. However, increasing raw material and energy prices as well as potential penalties for lacking compliance provide cost related incentives for manufacturing companies to reduce their environmental impacts. Since production typically determines several environmental impacts such as exploitation of resources, contamination of soil, water and air, generation and emission of greenhouse gases etc., an important opportunity to reduce the environmental impact is found within a company’s production activities. In this, environmental issues can be viewed as either constraints or opportunities for competition. Companies can choose to adopt different positions ranging on a continuum from re-active behaviour, merely complying with environmental laws and regulations, to pro-active positions where competitive advantages are sought for. Either way, the increased environmental concern requires manufacturing companies to develop strategies, technologies and practices that will reduce the environmental impact from production. This research focuses on the process of environmental improvement applied by companies within the manufacturing industry and aims to explore the current state as well as develop support for enhancing this process. By collecting and analysing the empirical and theoretical findings, common barriers facing the companies in their strive to reduce the environmental impact from production as well as enabling factors, supporting the progress towards increased environmental performance have been identified. Based on an analysis of the current state one example of a link of challenges impeding the process of environmental improvement has been identified. The identified link of causes and effects shows a path towards a reactive improvement approach when dealing with environmental issues in production. In order to reach a more proactive state this link had to be broken. A general pattern describing the stages from a reactive to a proactive approach was identified, indicating that an increased understanding of and commitment to environmental issues were crucial parameters in order to succeed. Based on the findings, a number of requirements for enhancing the process of environmental improvement in production were derived. It was concluded that developing a support in terms of an improvement process was one way of improving the current state. Using an existing visual structure as a baseline a process for Green Performance Mapping was developed in cooperation with the studied companies. Ultimately, the suggested process was evaluated against the stated requirements and suggested as a support for enhancing the process of environmental improvement in production within the manufacturing industry, thereby contributing to reducing the environmental impact from production.

  • Immunochemical faecal occult blood tests in primary care and the risk of delay in the diagnosis of colorectal cancer
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Primary Health Care. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0281-3432 .- 1502-7724. ; 31:4, s. 209-214
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective. To evaluate the value, risks, and shortcomings of immunochemical faecal occult blood tests (iFOBTs) in the diagnosis of colorectal cancer (CRC) and adenomas with high-grade dysplasia (HGD) in patients initially presenting to primary care. Design. A retrospective population-based study. Setting and subjects. All 495 cases of CRC and adenomas with HGD diagnosed in the county of Jamtland, Sweden from 2005 to 2009. Results. Of 495 patients 323 (65%) initially presented to primary care. IFOBTs were performed in 215 of 323 (67%) patients. The sensitivity of iFOBT for CRC and adenomas with HGD was 88% (83% when patients with a history of rectal bleeding were excluded). Of 34 patients with anaemia found en passant, 10 had negative iFOBTs. Time to diagnosis was longer for patients with negative iFOBTs (p < 0.0005). Conclusion. IFOBT might be helpful in selecting which patients to refer for colonoscopy. However, iFOBT has a limited sensitivity as a diagnostic test for CRC and adenomas with HGD. Relying only on iFOBT for colonoscopy referral could delay diagnosis, especially for patients with anaemia found en passant.
