  • Källundasjön - nätprovfiske 2009
  • 2011

  • Oil-acrylic hybrid latexes as binders for water-borne coatings
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Progress in organic coatings. - 0300-9440 .- 1873-331X. ; 35, s. 235-246
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The combination of the characteristics of oil, or alkyd, emulsions and acrylic latexes in a waterborne binder has been the object of various studies in the past. Strategies for combining the positive properties of alkyds, e.g. autoxidative curing, gloss and penetration in wood, with the fast drying and gloss and color retention properties of acrylic latexes have mainly been directed towards the modification of the alkyd with an acrylate during alkyd synthesis followed by emulsification. This paper describes the preparation and application of oil-acrylic hybrid latexes as binders for waterborne coatings. The hybrid latexes were prepared using hydroperoxidized triglycerides as initiators for the mini-emulsion polymerization of acrylates in an Fe(II)/EDTA/SFS redox system, The particle morphology of-hybrids initiated by fatty-acid hydroperoxides was compared with tert-butyl hydroperoxide-initiated systems. Cryo-TEM analysis indicated that, whereas tert-butyl hydroperoxide initiation resulted in the formation of heterogeneous particles, fatty-acid hydroperoxide-initiated hybrid particles showed no intra-particle heterogeneity. an AFM study of the film formation process of the oil/alkyd-acrylic hybrid latexes showed that phase separation occurred between the oil and the acrylic phases upon drying, resulting in films that consist of deformed acrylic particles embedded in a continuous matrix of oil. This results in a very smooth surface of the film.

  • Sub-millimetre wave range-Doppler radar as a diagnostic tool for gas-solids systems - solids concentration measurements
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Advanced Powder Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0921-8831 .- 1568-5527. ; 34:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Current non-intrusive measurement techniques for characterising the solids flow in gas-solids suspensions are limited by the low temporal or low spatial resolution of the sample volume, or in the case of optical methods, by a short range of sight. In this work, a sub-millimetre wave range-Doppler radar is developed and validated for non-intrusive sensing of solids concentrations in a gas-solids particle system with known characteristics. The radar system combines favourable features, such as the ability to see through at optical frequencies opaque materials, to measure the local solids velocity and the reflected radar power with a spatial resolution of a few cubic centimetres over distances of a few metres. In addition, the radar hardware offers flexibility in terms of installation. After signal processing, the output of the radar is range-velocity images of the solids flowing along the radar’s line-of-sight. The image frame rate can be close to real-time, allowing the solids flow dynamics to be observed. While the well-established Doppler principle is used to measure the solids velocity, this paper introduces a method to relate the received radar signal power to the solids volumetric concentrations (cv) of different particulate materials. The experimental set-up provides a steady stream of free-falling solids that consist of glass spheres, bronze spheres or natural sand grains with known particle size distributions and with particle diameters in the range of 50–300 µm. Thus, the values of cv found using the radar measurements are validated using the values of cv retrieved from closure of the mass balance derived from the measured mass flow rate of the solids stream and the solids velocity. The results show that the radar system provides reliable measurements of cv, with a mean relative error of approximately 25 % for all the tested materials, particle sizes and mass flow rates, yielding values of cv ranging from 0.2 × 10-4 m3/m3 up to 40 × 10-4 m3/m3 and solids velocities within the range of 0–4.5 m/s. This demonstrates the ability of the radar technology to diagnose the solids flow in gas-solids suspensions using a unique combination of penetration length, accuracy, and spatial and time resolution. In future work, the radar technique will be applied to study non-controlled solids flow at a larger scale, and to understand flow conditions relevant to industrial reactor applications, e.g., fluidised bed, entrained flow, and cyclone units.

  • Pathological Features of Lymph Node Metastasis for Predicting Biochemical Recurrence After Radical Prostatectomy for Prostate Cancer.
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: The Journal of urology. - : Ovid Technologies (Wolters Kluwer Health). - 1527-3792 .- 0022-5347. ; 189:4, s. 1314-1319
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PURPOSE: Subclassification of nodal stage may have prognostic value in men with lymph node metastasis at radical prostatectomy. We explored the role of extranodal extension, size of the largest metastatic lymph node and the largest metastasis, and lymph node density as predictors of biochemical recurrence. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We reviewed pathological material from 261 patients with node positive prostate cancer. We examined the predictive value when adding the additional pathology findings to a base model including extraprostatic extension, seminal vesicle invasion, radical prostatectomy Gleason score, prostate specific antigen and number of positive lymph nodes using the Cox proportional hazards regression and Harrell concordance index. RESULTS: The median number of lymph nodes removed was 14 (IQR 9, 20) and the median number of positive lymph nodes was 1 (IQR 1, 2). At a median followup of 4.6 years (IQR 3.2, 6.0) 155 of 261 patients experienced biochemical recurrence. The mean 5-year biochemical recurrence-free survival rate was 39% (95% CI 33-46). Median diameter of the largest metastatic lymph node was 9 mm (IQR 5, 16). On Cox regression radical prostatectomy specimen Gleason score (greater than 7 vs 7 or less), number of positive lymph nodes (3 or greater vs 1 or 2), seminal vesicle invasion and prostate specific antigen were associated with significantly increased risks of biochemical recurrence. On subset analysis metastasis size significantly improved model discrimination (base model Harrell concordance index 0.700 vs 0.655, p = 0.032). CONCLUSIONS: Our study confirms that the number of positive lymph nodes is a predictor of biochemical recurrence in men with node positive disease. The improvement in prognostic value of measuring the metastatic focus warrants further investigation.

  • The effect of kinetics on intrinsic stress generation and evolution in sputter-deposited films at conditions of high atomic mobility
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Applied Physics. - : AMER INST PHYSICS. - 0021-8979 .- 1089-7550. ; 127:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Vapor-based metal film growth at conditions that promote high atomic mobility is typically accompanied by compressive stress formation after completion of island coalescence, while an apparent stress relaxation is observed upon deposition interruption. Despite numerous experimental studies confirming these trends, the way by which growth kinetics affect postcoalescence stress magnitude and evolution is not well understood, in particular, for sputter-deposited films. In this work, we study in situ and in real-time stress evolution during sputter-deposition of Ag and Cu films on amorphous carbon. In order to probe different conditions with respect to growth kinetics, we vary the deposition rate F from 0:015 to 1:27 nm/s, and the substrate temperature T-S from 298 to 413 K. We find a general trend toward smaller compressive stress magnitudes with increasing T-S for both film/substrate systems. The stress-dependence on F is more complex: (i) for Ag, smaller compressive stress is observed when increasing F; (ii) while for Cu, a nonmonotonic evolution with F is seen, with a compressive stress maximum for F = 0.102 nm/s. Studies of postdeposition stress evolution show the occurrence of a tensile rise that becomes less pronounced with increasing T-S and decreasing F, whereas a faster tensile rise is seen by increasing F and T-S. We critically discuss these results in view of ex situ obtained film morphology which show that deposition-parameter-induced changes in film grain size and surface roughness are intimately linked with the stress evolution. • Reduced loop diuretic use in patients taking sacubitril/valsartan compared with enalapril: the PARADIGM-HF trial
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Heart Failure. - : Wiley. - 1388-9842 .- 1879-0844. ; 21:3, s. 337-341
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aims To assess differences in diuretic dose requirements in patients treated with sacubitril/valsartan compared with enalapril in the Prospective comparison of ARNI with ACEI to Determine Impact on Global Mortality and morbidity in Heart Failure (PARADIGM-HF) trial. Methods and results Overall, 8399 patients with New York Heart Association class II-IV heart failure and reduced LVEF were randomized to sacubitril/valsartan 200 mg bid or enalapril 10mg twice daily. Loop diuretic doses were assessed at baseline, 6, 12, and 24months, and furosemide dose equivalents were calculated via multiplication factors (2x for torsemide and 40x for bumetanide). Percentages of participants with reductions or increases in loop diuretic dose were determined. At baseline, 80.8% of participants were taking any diuretics (n = 6290 for loop diuretics, n = 496 for other diuretics); of those, recorded dosage data for loop diuretics were available on 5487 participants. Mean baseline furosemide equivalent doses were 48.2mg for sacubitril/valsartan and 49.6mg for enalapril (P = 0.25). Patients treated with sacubitril/valsartan were more likely to reduce diuretic dose and less likely to increase diuretic dose relative to those randomized to enalapril at 6, 12, 24 months post-randomization, with an overall decreased diuretic use of 2.0% (P = 0.02), 4.1% (P < 0.001), and 6.1% (P < 0.001) at 6, 12, and 24months, respectively, with similar findings in an on-treatment analysis. Conclusion Treatment with sacubitril/valsartan was associated with more loop diuretic dose reductions and fewer dose increases compared with enalapril, suggesting that treatment with sacubitril/valsartan may reduce the requirement for loop diuretics relative to enalapril in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction.

    • Prostate cancer units - hubs in the future care of men with prostate cancer Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in Sweden. The past decade has seen a tremendous development of new methods for diagnosing, staging, treating and rehabilitating men with suspicious or confirmed prostate cancer. This development necessitates a multidisciplinary and multiprofessional approach to the management of men with suspicious or confirmed prostate cancer. A recent survey showed that currently few Swedish men with prostate cancer receive the quality of care that is outlined in the national clinical guidelines. Specialised prostate cancer units are increasingly common in Europe, but as yet there are no such units in Sweden. We believe that the creation of prostate cancer units in Sweden would be an essential step forward, towards an improved future care of men with prostate cancer.
