  • Being different but striving to seem normal : the lived experiences of people aged 50+ with ADHD.
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Issues in Mental Health Nursing. - : Informa Healthcare. - 0161-2840 .- 1096-4673. ; 41:6, s. 476-485
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This qualitative study explored the day-to-day life of people aged 50+ diagnosed with ADHD. A phenomenological-hermeneutical method was chosen for the analysis. Two themes including sub-themes were revealed. The first theme, Being different and trying to handle my inner self, concerned emotional self-regulation, emotional resilience, social skills, and personal resource management. The second theme, Trying to adapt to fit in with people around me, concerned relationships, work, and personal finances. The comprehensive understanding was interpreted as Being different but striving to seem normal.

  • Hälsovägledning i barnhälsovården. Erfarenheter från sju års forsknings- och utvecklingsarbete.
  • 2006
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Between 1997 -2005 a research and developing work has been carried out in collaboration between Child Health Services, Lyckeby Primary Health Area , County Council of Blekinge and a researcher at School of Health, Blekinge Institute of Technology with purpose to develop health counselling in Child Health Services and to study this process. Corner stones for the collaboration and developing process were a participatory approach, a Health Action process and improvement work evolving from practice. The present report describe the evaluation of improvement for seven years, two initial years as a project and five years in ordinary activity, the impact on health counselling and, strains and obstacles for maintaining. The evaluation suggests that the overall aim for the improvement has been achieved. The studies shows that health counselling is a multi-faced work and therefore actions and improvements can not only focus on the health counselling in the consultations. Several factors interact and influence on the routines for child health services, collaboration and health counselling. The process evaluation showed that the participatory action approach made that the district nurses felt that they “urge on together” to improve the health counselling and reach the goal, although the extra developing work took time. The health action working process and the group meetings developed the request of reflection and discussion. By active participating in the project the district nurses developed awareness, knowledge, skills and methods for action and changing and prerequisites for maintaining and application in the organisation increase. The “outsider” (researcher) is important as a reflection and analysis partner. The improving and changing process needs and takes time, for being emerged and not forced, sustainable and not a dayfly.

  • Dental pulp capping : effect of Emdogain Gel on experimentally exposed human pulps
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: International Endodontic Journal. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 0143-2885 .- 1365-2591. ; 38:3, s. 186-194
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • AIM: To investigate the effect of Emdogain Gel (Biora AB, Malmo, Sweden), consisting of a enamel matrix derivative (EMD) in a propylene glycol alginate (PGA) vehicle, on experimentally exposed human pulps and to register postoperative symptoms. METHODOLOGY: Nine pairs of contralateral premolars scheduled for extraction on orthodontic indications were included. Following a superficial pulp amputation performed with a small (016) diamond bur, either EMDgel or a mix of calcium hydroxide and sterile saline was placed at random in contact with the pulp wound. The subjects made records of symptoms and were also interviewed about pain/discomfort by a blinded examiner. After 12 weeks the teeth were extracted, prepared and subjected to light microscopic examination in which the inflammation and newly formed hard tissue in the pulp were analysed. Immunohistochemistry was performed using affinity-purified rabbit anti-EMD polyclonal antibodies. RESULTS: Postoperative symptoms were less frequent in the EMDgel-treated than in the calcium hydroxide-treated teeth, especially during the first six weeks. In the EMDgel-treated teeth, new tissue partly filled the space initially occupied by the gel and hard tissue was formed alongside the exposed dentine surfaces and in patches in the adjacent pulp tissue. EMD was detected in the areas where new hard tissue had been formed. The wound area of the EMDgel-treated teeth exhibited inflammation in the majority of the teeth whereas less inflammation was seen in the calcium hydroxide-treated teeth where the hard tissue was formed as a bridge. CONCLUSIONS: In the EMDgel-treated teeth, postoperative symptoms were less frequent and the amount and pattern of hard tissue formation were markedly different than in the teeth treated with calcium hydroxide. However, the operative procedure and the formulation with EMD in a PGA vehicle do not seem to be effective for the formation of a hard tissue barrier.

  • Formation of a hard tissue barrier after pulp cappings in gumans. A systematic review
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: International Endodontic Journal. - : Wiley. - 0143-2885 .- 1365-2591. ; 39:6, s. 429-442
  • Forskningsöversikt (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Aim To evaluate the evidence on the formation of a hard tissue barrier after pulp capping in humans. Methodology A PubMed and CENTRAL literature search with specific indexing terms and a hand search were made. The authors assessed the level of evidence of each publication as high, moderate or low. Based on this, the evidence grade of the conclusions was rated as strong, moderately strong, limited or insufficient. Results The initial search process resulted in a total of 171 publications. After reading the abstracts and hand searching the reference lists of the retrieved publications, 107 studies were retrieved in full-text and interpreted. After the interpretation, 21 studies remained and were included in the systematic review and given a level of evidence. No study had a high level of evidence, one study had moderate and 20 studies had a low level of evidence. There was heterogeneity between the studies; therefore, no meta-analysis was performed. The majority of studies on pulp capping using calcium hydroxide based materials reported formation of hard tissue bridging, studies on other pulp capping materials such as bonding agents presented inferior results. The evidence grade was insufficient. Conclusions Insufficient evidence grade does not necessarily imply that there is no effect of a pulp capping procedure or that it should not be used. Rather, the insufficient evidence underpins the need for high-quality studies.

  • Life satisfaction of women of working age shortly after breast cancer surgery
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Quality of Life Research. - : Springer. - 0962-9343 .- 1573-2649. ; 26:3, s. 673-684
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PURPOSE: To explore, among women of working age, satisfaction with life as a whole and with different life domains, and its associations with social and health variables, shortly after breast cancer surgery.METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 605 women, aged 20-63 years, who had had breast cancer surgery with no distant metastasis, pre-surgical chemotherapy, or previous breast cancer. Associations between LiSat-11 and demographic and social factors as well as health- and treatment-related variables were analysed by multivariable logistic regression.RESULTS: Compared with Swedish reference levels, the women were, after breast cancer surgery, less satisfied with life, particularly sexual life. Women working shortly after breast cancer surgery were more often satisfied with life in provision domains compared with the reference population. Although most included variables showed associations with satisfaction, after adjustment for all significantly associated variables, only six variables-having children, being in work, having emotional and informational social support, and having good physical and emotional functioning-were positively associated with satisfaction with life as a whole. The odds ratios for satisfaction were higher in most life domains if the woman had social support and good emotional and cognitive functioning.CONCLUSIONS: One month after breast cancer surgery, satisfaction with different life domains was associated primarily with social support and health-related functioning. However, this soon after surgery, treatment-related variables showed no significant associations with life satisfaction. These results are useful for planning interventions to enhance e.g. social support and emotional as well as cognitive functioning.

  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Sexual & Reproductive HealthCare. - : Elsevier. - 1877-5756 .- 1877-5764. ; 29
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objectives: To provide current estimates of alcohol and drug use among pregnant women attending antenatal care lectures in preparation for childbirth in Stockholm, Sweden.Study design: A cross-sectional study. Data was collected anonymously among women attending lectures in preparation for childbirth.Main outcome measures: The prevalence of alcohol and illicit and non-medical prescription drug use among pregnant women attending antenatal care lectures in preparation for childbirth. Results: Nine hundred and thirty-six pregnant women attending lectures in preparation for childbirth participated. Among those answering all questions about alcohol use during pregnancy, 4.2 percent reported use (95% confidence interval (CI), 3.0–5.7%) and among those answering all questions about illicit or non-medical prescription drug use during pregnancy, 0.5 percent reported such use (95% CI, 0.1–1.3%). The prevalences of binge drinking during pregnancy and alcohol and drug use before pregnancy are presented. Comparisons of anonymously and non-anonymously collected data are included. Conclusions: Approximately one in 25 women reported using alcohol and approximately one in 200 reported using illicit or non-medical prescription drugs while pregnant. Alcohol use during pregnancy may have decreased in Stockholm, Sweden.

  • Potentially traumatic events, fear of childbirth and posttraumatic stress disorder during pregnancy in Stockholm, Sweden : A cross-sectional study
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Sexual & Reproductive HealthCare. - : Elsevier. - 1877-5756 .- 1877-5764. ; 25
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objectives: To estimate the prevalence of potentially traumatic events (PTEs), fear of childbirth (FOC), and support for it as well as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among pregnant women attending maternal care in Stockholm, Sweden. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted. Pregnant women attending lectures in preparation for childbirth at the major hospitals in Stockholm were asked to complete questionnaires anonymously. Main outcome measures were the prevalence of PTEs, FOC, support for FOC and PTSD.Results: One thousand one hundred fifty-seven women in late pregnancy attending lectures in preparation for childbirth at hospitals in Stockholm, Sweden, were asked to participate, 945 chose to participate, resulting in a response rate of 81.7 percent. Most pregnant women, 78.5 percent (95% confidence interval (CI) 75.6-81.3), reported having experienced at least one PTE. The prevalence of having experienced different types of violence is presented. FOC was found among 28.8 percent (95% CI 25.7-32.0) of pregnant women, while only 10.9 percent (95% CI 10.5-11.2) received support for FOC. The prevalence of current PTSD was 4.1 percent (95% CI 2.8-5.8).Conclusions: The majority of pregnant women had experienced PTEs, and experiences of violence were common, as was FOC. Approximately one in 25 women attending general maternal care in Stockholm, Sweden, was estimated to have current PTSD. This highlights the need to prevent violence, find pregnant women suffering from FOC or PTSD, to develop an evidence-based treatment for FOC and to provide such treatment for PTSD.

  • Screening for Infants With Developmental Deficits and/or Autism A Swedish Pilot Study.
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Journal of Pediatric Nursing: Nursing Care of Children and Families. - : Elsevier BV. - 1532-8449. ; 21:4, s. 24-313
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The purpose of this study was to develop an instrument (SEEK) for the early detection of developmental deficits and/or autistic spectrum disorders among children by the age of 8 months at eight child health care centers in southern Sweden. Health visitors, trained by the research team, screened 312 infants. SEEK captured 5 infants with several points. Twenty-one percent of the infants obtained at least one SEEK point. At the 18-month follow-up, 5 children still showed more obvious signs of developmental problems. The health visitors found SEEK to be very satisfactory and easy and quick to use and its items and questions to be easy to administer. The results have indicated a new systematic methodology to examine infants, which is to be further developed.
