  • Odin observations of H2O in the Galactic Centre
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Astronomy and Astrophysics. - : EDP Sciences. - 0004-6361 .- 1432-0746. ; 402, s. L63-L67
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Odin satellite has been used to detect emission and absorption in the 557-GHz H216O line in the Galactic Centre towards the Sgr Astar Circumnuclear Disk (CND), and the Sgr A +20 km s-1 and +50 km s-1 molecular clouds. Strong broad H2O emission lines have been detected in all three objects. Narrow H2O absorption lines are present at all three positions and originate along the lines of sight in the 3-kpc Spiral Arm, the -30 km s-1 Spiral Arm and the Local Sgr Spiral Arm. Broad H2O absorption lines near -130 km s-1 are also observed, originating in the Expanding Molecular Ring. A new molecular feature (the ``High Positive Velocity Gas'' - HPVG) has been identified in the positive velocity range of ~+120 to +220 km s-1, seen definitely in absorption against the stronger dust continuum emission from the +20 km s-1 and +50 km s-1 clouds and possibly in emission towards the position of Sgr Astar CND. The 548-GHz H218O isotope line towards the CND is not detected at the 0.02 K (rms) level. Based on observations with Odin, a Swedish-led satellite project funded jointly by the Swedish National Space Board (SNSB), the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), the National Technology Agency of Finland (Tekes) and Centre National d'Études Spatiales (CNES). The Swedish Space Corporation was the industrial prime contractor and is also responsible for the satellite operation.

  • The prevalence of Malassezia yeasts in patients with atopic dermatitis, seborrhoeic dermatitis and healthy controls
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Acta Derm Venereol. - : Medical Journals Sweden AB. ; 85:1, s. 17-23
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cultures for Malassezia yeasts were taken from both normal-looking skin and lesional skin in 124 patients with atopic dermatitis, 16 patients with seborrhoeic dermatitis and from normal skin of 31 healthy controls. Positive Malassezia growth was found in fewer patients with atopic dermatitis (56%) than in patients with seborrhoeic dermatitis (88%) or in healthy controls (84%, p<0.01). In the patients with atopic dermatitis, fewer positive cultures were found in lesional (28%) than in non-lesional skin (44%, p<0.05), while positive cultures were found in 75% of both lesional and non-lesional skin of patients with seborrhoeic dermatitis (not significant). M. sympodialis dominated in patients with atopic dermatitis (46%) and in healthy controls (69%). In patients with seborrhoeic dermatitis both M. sympodialis and M. obtusa were cultured in 43%. A Malassezia species extract mixture would increase the possibility of detecting IgE sensitization to Malassezia in patients with atopic dermatitis.

  • Genome-wide association study identifies multiple risk loci for renal cell carcinoma.
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2041-1723. ; 8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Previous genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified six risk loci for renal cell carcinoma (RCC). We conducted a meta-analysis of two new scans of 5,198 cases and 7,331 controls together with four existing scans, totalling 10,784 cases and 20,406 controls of European ancestry. Twenty-four loci were tested in an additional 3,182 cases and 6,301 controls. We confirm the six known RCC risk loci and identify seven new loci at 1p32.3 (rs4381241, P=3.1 × 10-10), 3p22.1 (rs67311347, P=2.5 × 10-8), 3q26.2 (rs10936602, P=8.8 × 10-9), 8p21.3 (rs2241261, P=5.8 × 10-9), 10q24.33-q25.1 (rs11813268, P=3.9 × 10-8), 11q22.3 (rs74911261, P=2.1 × 10-10) and 14q24.2 (rs4903064, P=2.2 × 10-24). Expression quantitative trait analyses suggest plausible candidate genes at these regions that may contribute to RCC susceptibility.

  • International cancer seminars : a focus on kidney cancer.
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Annals of Oncology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0923-7534 .- 1569-8041. ; 27:8, s. 1382-5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recent years have seen important advances in our understanding of the etiology, biology and genetics of kidney cancer. To summarize important achievements and identify prominent research questions that remain, a workshop was organized by IARC and the US NCI. A series of 'difficult questions' were formulated, which should be given future priority in the areas of population, genomic and clinical research.

  • European Research on Magnetic Nanoparticles for Biomedical Applications : Standardisation Aspects
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: 21st Polish Conference on Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering, PCBBE 2019. - Cham : Springer Verlag. - 9783030298845 ; , s. 316-326
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Magnetic nanoparticles have many applications in biomedicine and other technical areas. Despite their huge economic impact, there are no standardised procedures available to measure their basic magnetic properties. The International Organization for Standardization is working on a series of documents on the definition of characteristics of magnetic nanomaterials. We review previous and ongoing European research projects on characteristics of magnetic nanoparticles and present results of an online survey among European researchers.

  • Effects of nitrogen vacancies on phase stability and mechanical properties of arc deposited (Ti0.52Al0.48)Ny (y<1) coatings
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Surface & Coatings Technology. - : Elsevier. - 0257-8972 .- 1879-3347. ; 330:Supplement C, s. 77-86
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Nitrogen sub-stoichiometric (Ti0.52Al0.48)Ny (0.92 ≥ y  ≥ 0.46) coatings were grown in a mixed Ar/N2 atmosphere by cathodic arc deposition on cemented carbide (WC/Co-based) substrates. The coatings present a columnar structure with decreasing column widths from 250 to 60nm, due to a corresponding reduced N content, accompanied by changes in preferred orientation from 200 to 111 to 220. Among these, coatings prepared with 0.92≥y≥0.75 exhibit spinodal decomposition and consequently age hardening at elevated temperatures. A reduced N content upshifts the hardness maximum by >300 °C. For these samples, the high temperature treatment resulted in interdiffusion of substrate elements, Co and C, mainly along column boundaries. Nevertheless, no detrimental effect in the hardness could be correlated. Conversely, a low N content sample (y=0.46) presents significant lattice diffusion of substrate elements Co, C, W, and Ta in the coating. In this case, the substrate elements are present throughout the coating, forming additional phases such as c-Ti(C,N), c-Co(Al,Ti,W), and c-(Ti,W,Ta)(C,N), with an observed increased hardness from 16 to 25GPa. We suggest that the substitution of nitrogen by carbon and the solution of W and Ta in c-TiN are responsible for the observed hardening. Our investigation shows the potential of sub-stoichiometric (Ti1-xAlx)Ny coatings for high temperature applications such as cutting tools and puts forth corresponding criteria for N content selection.
