  • Avatar-based innovation : How avatars experience co-creation projects in Second Life
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Problems & Perspectives in Management. - 1727-7051 .- 1810-5467. ; 9:2, s. 21-32
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Practical examples as well as research highlight the potential of virtual worlds for new product development especially for utilizing the innovative capabilities and knowledge of consumers and consumer communities. However, most of the observed and often cited virtual new product development examples failed or could have done better. One of the main challenges of virtual product development projects in virtual worlds such as Second Life (SL) face, is to attract participants and to motivate them to actively contribute to the project and share their ideas and knowledge with the company. Therefore, one of the most important research questions is to explore how avatar-based innovation projects should be designed in order to motivate consumers to engage in avatar-based innovation projects and actively contribute to the solution of the stated innovation quest. Based on a quantitative survey with avatars that participated in virtual cocreation projects, the article provides insights regarding compelling co-creation experiences in virtual worlds. This research presents empirically grounded insights regarding compelling co-creation experiences in virtual worlds. It extends theory about virtual new product development in virtual worlds and provides practical guidelines on how to successfully design virtual co-creation projects in virtual worlds.

  • Knowledge overlapping seminars : conversational arenas supporting joint directed action in projects
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Quality Management Journal. - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 1068-6967 .- 2575-6222. ; 18:3, s. 33-51
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this paper is to test and evaluate a designed conversational seminar – the knowledge overlapping seminar (KOS) – as a support for joint directed action in projects. This conversational arena is designed to support the process of co-constructing shared understanding in projects with the aim of delimiting misunderstandings and creating knowledge overlap between people coming together from different organizational contexts. As misunderstandings often rise in projects among people who don't share the same language due to their belonging to different organizational contexts, there exists a need to develop methodologies that will assist in supporting the co-construction process of shared understanding in projects. This study proposes a designed conversational seminar for this purpose. KOSs are designed to be conversational arenas in which members of a project team have an opportunity to guide one another in their respective different domains of knowledge related and connected to the common project goal. The design of KOS aims to avoid conversational obstacles to effective knowledge overlap between members from different organizational contexts and from different knowledge domains, with special emphasis on avoiding prestige. The KOS has here been evaluated as being a promising conversational ?tool? for application in projects with a view to support joint directed action by achieving a shared understanding of the project goal and delimiting misunderstandings, with improved efficiency, quality, and, ultimately, more satisfied customers as a result.

  • Promoting a Safety Culture in Health Care. Presenting a Relational-Interpretive Perspective
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Medicine Studies. - : Medicine Studies. - 1876-4533 .- 1876-4541. ; 2, s. 265-278
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper analyses various approaches tothe concept of a ‘safety culture’ in terms of theirepistemological assumptions regarding the nature oflearning. As a result of this analysis, the studyproposes a relational-interpretive framework for thepromotion of safety in health care, which is based onrelational theories and the philosophy of conceptualpragmatism as this can be used to integrate thevarious strands of current safety research. In particular, the approach based on a relational-interpretiveperspective can bridge the apparent dualist gap thatexists between the rational objectivist perspective andthe relativist perspective on the role of learning indeveloping a safety culture. According to the relational-interpretive perspective of safety managementthat is proposed here, organizational members need togive continuous attention to the accepted organizational norms and values, which shape the safetyculture. A case study from a health care safety projectin Sweden is utilized to illustrate the ideas advancedin this paper.

  • Local Bias Across Regions
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of Money, Investment and Banking. ; :18, s. 40-54
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper examines local bias among individual and institutional investors and across different regions in Sweden. The results show a significant equally and valueweighted local bias among the investor groups and across the regions. Institutional investors exhibit higher local bias than individual investors do. The local bias measurements are heterogeneous in each region and the number of local firms in each region contributes to this heterogeneity. Furthermore, local holdings tend to be in small, risky firms and increases with the number of employees. Local investors prefer low beta stocks and they do not consider industry when investing in local firms.

  • Local bias and indisputable preference
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Forthcoming, International Journal of Economic Perspectives. - 1307-1637.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using a panel data set that provides detailed information on investors’ stockholding, this paper studies the relationship between local bias and the risk-adjusted portfolio return while controlling for alternative exogenous determinants within Sweden between the years of 2000 and 2007. Existing studies in local bias literature have suggested two major explanations behind local bias, seeing it either as a result of information advantage or familiarity attributes such as companies’ language, culture, distance, size etc. This paper documents that investors do not outperform the fully diversified market portfolio by investing locally. Therefore, it invokes the possibility that local bias is merely an indisputable preference that investors choose local firms whenever they face equal or nearly equal profits.

  • Managerial myopia and entrenchment in industrial firms
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Mistra programme Sustainable Investments workshop May 7-8 in Gothenburg.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This paper provides direct evidence on the influence of ownership concentration and bonus payments on firms’ investment horizon. Using a fixed effects model, the paper analyses a sample of industrial firms that are listed on Swedish stock exchange market between the years 2000 and 2005. The results show that managers of large firms and firms with higher ownership concentration invest in long-term projects. An incentive system in terms of annual bonus tied to accounting performance leads managers to invest in short-term projects.
