  • After Work : A book about the meaning of Work
  • 2022. - 1
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Economic stress under wage-earning has been abolished. Machines and AI have taken over dirty, heavy and tedious work. Money and social injustice are banned. All the technological resources of humanity can be used to reset the global economy to harmonize with ecology. Free citizens can spend their time in leisure practicing music, art, and poetry.Visions of the future are already here. But is it a utopia that we are seeing materializing around us or a dystopia? What will happen to people when nobody wants their labor? Does there already exist a firm border between those who have a job, with all that it entails in social and economic benefits, and the people that are on the other side of the fence- the people that have to sell their work by the hour, and who in practice are modern slaves under apps and SMS? A division between people who can safely work from home during a pandemic and those who cannot. Is everything for sale? Can you sell voluntary labour? These are some of the questions discussed in the art projects documented in this book.

  • Embodied learning via a knowledge concert: An exploratory intervention study
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Nordic Journal of Arts, Culture and Health. - Oslo : Scandinavian University Press / Universitetsforlaget AS. - 2535-7913. ; 3:01-02, s. 34-47
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Music listening can improve acquisition of new knowledge.Purpose: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the emotional and cognitive effects of a knowledge concerton the attending audience.Methodology: The audience was asked to complete a Visual Analogue Scale (10 cm) before and after listening to the concert, along five variables: Arousal, Degree of happiness, Degree of worry, Daily worries and Benevolence. Follow-up qualitative interviews gathered narratives from the participants.Findings: 228 concert attendees took part in the study by completing the questionnaires (51 percent of the whole audience). Statistically significant changes were observed in the outcome measures for: Arousal (p=0.002), Daily worries (p<0.001) and Degree of happiness (p=0.01). Degree of worry interacted with age (p<0.001). No changes were found for Benevolence (p=0.93). Gender and previous music experiences did not make a difference to feelings evoked by the music. Age, however, was important since younger participants became more worried by the concert than older.Originality: We discuss the potential role of future knowledge concerts that comprise qualities explored, such as mitigating a variety of embodied psychological capacities, including reflection and agency in audiences, facilitating learning about sensitive issues, and potentially also transformation towards prosocial mindsets and behavior.

  • Beauty/Schönheit/Skönhet : An Artistic Research Project in Music and Dance
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Music and Performing Arts. - : American Research Institute for Policy Development. - 2374-2690 .- 2374-2704. ; 6:2, s. 1-7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In an artistic project we investigated the points of contact between choreography and music composition in a listening stance, where the meeting between the artists was visible and audible. Collective creative processes arose from this attitude of listening. One way to bring forth the listening stance – and not only uni-directionally, as when a choreographer uses a through-composed piece of music – was to let a composer write music to a dance, choreographed in silence. The performance gave the opportunity to change rituals around listening that are predominantly current in an attempt to resuscitate the eyes, ears, inner and outer attention to a reflective listening; to take these thoughts where the body goes and break the patterns of embodied and cognitive ways of thinking. In a position of stillness, one can renew, breath, give and open up to new opportunities. The cognition/corporeality of the dance became a way to listen to music.

  • Image as Site
  • 2020
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • By appropriating the concept of site from the discourses of site-specific art and the concept of field from sound art, and applying them to the moving image, the project Image as Site explore the potential of video art for enabling certain elements of performance that appear in these discourses. The research originates from an understanding of video as a particular mode of inquiry that activates relationships between bodies, images, and places. The project expands this understanding and engages it to create meetings between visual arts and film and media practices. The practice of visual artist and professor in Film and Media Ellen J Røed is at the centre of the project, which is developed in an interdisciplinary research environment at Stockholm University of Arts and funded by the Swedish Research Council.

  • Delete by Haiku: Poetry from Old SMS Messages
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 2017 CHI Conference Extended Abstracts on Human Factors in Computing Systems. - Denver, USA : ACM Press. ; , s. 460-460
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The work draws on repurposing practices to inform design for deletion and handling of digital waste – a way of letting go – in graceful and aesthetically appealing ways.Delete by Haiku 1 is a mobile phone application that explores how deleting old text messages can become an enjoyable and creative practice by turning messages into haiku poetry. Through the application users interactively repurpose selected old text messages on their mobile phone into a haiku poem aided by a haiku- generating algorithm. By repeatedly pinching the selected messages they break apart into words that tumble down in a Tetris like manner. Gradually words are deleted until the remaining words find their position and form a haiku. The video presents a walkthrough of how to interact with the application to select messages in various ways, how to apply ‘themes’ to gain some control over the generation process, and eventually share created poems with others through social media.

  • Crafting Cultural Heritage
  • 2016
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The making of artefacts is a core activity in society, the result of which contributes to the building up of our physical surroundings and material culture. Throughout history, craft skills have been highly appreciated and have often been seen as crucial component of a capable human. Despite this, the knowledge base that constitutes the actual making is often overlooked in research. What can we learn about things by learning about their making? How do different craft skills offer an understanding of its historical use? How can theoretical and methodological approaches be developed concerning the actual making? How can we study and understand craft as cultural heritage? This book contains a selecion of papers from the session Crafting Cultural Heritage at the Assosiation of Critical Heritage studies inaugural conference Re/theorising Heritage 2012 in Gothenburg. The contributors are Anneli Palmsköld; Thomas Laurien; Eleonora Lupo and Elena Giunta; Gunnar Almevik and Nicola Donovan. Their common interest are theories and methods of crafting that could benefit heritage studies approach to making.

  • A Live Interior : Environments, Assemblies, Materialities
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Athens Journal of Architecture. - Athens : Athens Institute for Education and Research ATINER. - 2407-9472. ; 7:4, s. 463-482
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper examines the interior as a condition that is continuously in production through the arrangement of objects and furniture. This is done along two lines of inquiry. First by examining a few different historical and contemporary conceptions of the domestic interior through the lens of architectural representation. Second by using the technique of laser scanning to document a number of inhabited interiors in two apartment buildings. Through a series of representations, or cloud drawings, produced from the scans, the paper presents three ways of reading the interior: as environments, as assemblies, and as materialities. Departing from Robin Evans’ writing on drawing techniques for representing the interior and their correlation to ways of inhabitation, the paper poses questions around how the understanding of the interior may shift when using emerging techniques for architectural representation. Through readings of Walter Benjamin as well as Sylvia Lavin, the paper discusses such shifts in relation to changes in the conception of the interior and the objects that it contains.

  • Elevated MARK2-Dependent Phosphorylation of Tau in Alzheimer's Disease
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Journal of Alzheimer's Disease. - 1387-2877 .- 1875-8908. ; 33:3, s. 699-713
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The appearance of neurofibrillary tangles (NFT), one of the major hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease (AD), is most likely caused by inappropriate phosphorylation and/or dephosphorylation of tau, eventually leading to the accumulation of NFTs. Enhanced phosphorylation of tau on Ser(262) is detected early in the course of the disease and may have a role in the formation of tangles. Several kinases such as microtubule-affinity regulating kinase (MARK), protein kinase A, calcium calmodulin kinase II, and checkpoint kinase 2 are known to phosphorylate tau on Ser(262) in vitro. In this study, we took advantage of the in situ proximity ligation assay to investigate the role of MARK2, one of the four MARK isoforms, in AD. We demonstrate that MARK2 interacts with tau and phosphorylates tau at Ser(262) in stably transfected NIH/3T3 cells expressing human recombinant tau. Staurosporine, a protein kinase inhibitor, significantly reduced the interaction between MARK2 and tau, and also phosphorylation of tau at Ser(262). Furthermore, we observed elevated interactions between MARK2 and tau in post-mortem human AD brains, compared to samples from non-demented elderly controls. Our results from transfected cells demonstrate a specific interaction between MARK2 and tau, as well as MARK2-dependent phosphorylation of tau at Ser(262). Furthermore, the elevated interactions between MARK2 and tau in AD brain sections suggests that MARK2 may play an important role in early phosphorylation of tau in AD, possibly qualifying as a therapeutic target for intervention to prevent disease progression.
